I'm 74 with 3 homes in 3 different states and we do not rent. I would love to get rid of so much (STUFF) but my husband doesn't feel the same way. We get along in most all ways, but getting rid of "perfectly good products is abured." Says the dude.
I have told our 3 children (We are all very close), to just call the junk guy to take it all.
I have already started each child a shoe boxed sized of simple and fun treasures I have kept and than they may keep their stuff enjoy and toss.
Thank You for bringing this up. Less is More. Stop trying to live the like the Jones when you are the Jones, but no one told you except the bank.

I was about to answer "get rid of it, he'll never notice" then I got to the part where you got your kids involved, lol...smart. 😉

Always a pleasure, no matter the subject. A de-cluttered well organized environment is as good a topic - as a well informed life is, eh ?
👏 😉 thanks for sharing your insight & knowledge,
    appreciate it 🙏.

Someone equated Stoicism with Minimalism? Que?! I adopted a minimalist aesthetic because I found it keeps my mind calm and focused, but that doesnt mean my home lacks comfort-quite the opposite. But as Nadia points out, stripping the unnecessary from your life and cultivating a "curated existence" (Im totally stealing that from you, Nadia, i love that phrase) can do a lot to clear your mind and your spirit.Clarity is a marvelous thing. Cheers!

Indeed it is! When I moved into my new apartment I started from scratch, got rid of EVERYTHING; best decision ever. Less IS more! An intentional, peaceful, and beautiful home is an oasis. And yes, STEAL AWAY! 🤗

It's soooo easy to get attached to stuff emotionally after a while. I like that journal called Throw It Away by Guru Notebooks. It helps me think through the process.

Having a lot of stuff is not the problem. Having more stuff than you can keep organized is the problem. 🙂

I'm no longer a minimalist, I like to say I'm an "Optimal-ist". (different than optimist). I work from home and spend most of my free time taking care of the home maintenance and learning new skills which requires that I amass various tools that take up space. As long as the "stuff" has a storage spot and is organized, I'm happy 😊 OPTIMAL is my strategy, not minimal, not maximal. Just right. That said, the declutter advice in this video still applies to Optimalism 👍

Socks, shoes and underwear are not heirlooms. Nor are old towels and bed sheets. Have no superglue in the house so broken ornaments go in the bin where they belong. If no one wants to buy your stuff on an internet selling site, donate it to charity. The world is overflowing with stuff.

All things you have are telling you different things.
    Use me
    Sell me
    Clean me
    Protect me
    Organize me
And so on. To get rid of these unnessesary items is a relief for you.

@@NewYorkNadia Often you have things of different categories with different ”demands”.
      Valuables needs protektion.
Shiny objects needs to be cleaned and polished.
Shoes and clothes needs to be worn.
Things you do not longer need has to be sold, or be thrown a way.
Books, collections needs to be sorter out, registred, organized…
I hope you new the essens of my comment. ALL things have a small to big demand from your attention.
If you control all your surroundings in your home, and also have control to not collect these items that can suck your energy from you
