This is possibly one of the best categories of motorcycles, and I’m glad to see these in the line up. So many of the 600 Supersports have disappeared, but these are more road worthy and perfect for “My First Big Bike”.

Amen! No one mentioned servicing and the difficulties of servicing a aprilia though which may prove not to be difficult for quite a few people. Regardless, both are gorgeous bikes.
A couple of pros giving an honest review and comparison. Informative and articulate. A fine piece of journalism for sure. I am 55 years old and riding since I had my drivers license. My final four were the Kawasaki z900rs Cafe, Honda CBR650R and these two machines. My final two were the Aprilia and Triumph. The Aprilia dealer is 1.5.hours from my home and 3 phone calls to the dealer left me with a feeling that they were not really interested in selling me a bike. Triumph dealer an hour away and immediately engaged me in the process of ordering and taking deliver of the Trident. I had the dealer fit the quickshifter which is a hoot. Now....the bad news....at 600 miles and one week after the break in service and quickshifter install the bike threw 3 codes. Trans fault, check engine and coolent temp high. Dealer assured me they were all quickshifter related. Bike has been at the dealer for 2 weeks. I had to trailer it there. Parts on order. Was thinking that modular triple from Thailand would be rock solid. Hmmmm........
Maybe you just had bad luck. In general I think that all brands are pretty reliable nowadays but there are always a few black sheep. The big Aprilia recall for the 660‘s wasn‘t even Aprilia‘s fault, a supplier just messed up so that could have happened to every brand. The Z900 RS is certainly a unique bike, great taste! Anyway, good luck on your motorcycling journey, I‘m just starting mine right now by getting my license
Loved this review. I have a Daytona 675R and my husband has a Tuono 1100 which I also love, but is just too much for me. I’ve been looking at both of these bikes, and this helped confirm what I was thinking. Pre-ordered a Tuono 660 Factory. However, my 675R is the best bike I’ve ever owned - so wouldn’t hesitate to buy either!

Nice comparison. I test rode the Tuono against the Speed and Street Triple and bought the Tuono. It's a lovely bike to ride daily and always puts a massive grin on my face. But I do a lot of city riding and no track days, otherwise I might have picked the Street RS.

got the tuono 660 about a month ago. bought the quickshifter and IMU, but still waiting for them to come in stock to be installed. an OEM option that no one mentions is the pillion with the wings like the full size tuono. it's only in black, but still looks cool. a quickshifter and IMU are only 200 bones each, but somehow a seat cost 300. not sure how that happens, but whatever; i don't ride to save money.
I agree that seat cowl could have been 199😆. But I am like you I love adding upgrades. People complain about the bikes not coming with these features. But the companies know what they are doing. They are here to make money. That is what the Factory edition is for. Enjoy you bike and stay safe💪🏾
@The Power Moves Not really. Have you looked at the used prices? It's like people think they 'increase' in value the more miles they have. It's insane.
I've rode bikes for years and went with the Trident because for what you pay you get an awesome bike but I've really be thinking about the 765 Street Triple
If you guys filmed and recorded more of these and put them up as a short podcast platform. I’d listen. These two hold a great conversation and I almost prefer to the usual “shootout” format.
Rode both bikes and my conclusion is that trintet 660 is more designed for beginners it's a very solid and smooth bike but it revs slowly and in a more friendly way for the experienced rider the bike feels kinda lackluster and boring. While Tuono 660 has a more playful nature and is suited more for an experienced rider who wants a rational sports bike on the street and track.
It should be mentioned, that the tuono really has to be spanked to get the best out of it, which is fine if you like the track. However, the trident 660 trident performs much lower down the rev range, which appeals to someone wanting a bike that can/is fun without needing to go around the streets hell for leather to get the best out of it. Thank you for the video.
For anyone wondering on the Trident, this particular colorway for 2023 $8,750 plus call it $900 for destination. Rough OTD price $11k depending on tax rate. Thats if you can find one in stock nearby when you decide to pull the trigger.
Awesome video. I agree with Runyon's comment about the new format. You guys provided subjective info that is really usable for someone (like me) that is considering both. Gave me lots to think about. Thanks.
Man I was so happy to see this comparison because these two were my picks I’ve owned Ducati before and a GSXR 1000 but I want lighter and liked the riding position on the Aprilla vs the RS version. When you look at reviews the Trident some say is smooth and a bit boring. If your riding an MT07 or MT 09 I would understand why they would feel that way. Hooligan comes to mind. My other consideration would have to be the KTM Duke 890. That power delivery on that bike is awesome and it makes a great all around bike. I just stayed away from KTM because the paint is WILD and not as nice looking to me as the Trident.
I have a few years riding experience. GS500F and SV650S. I'm looking for my next bike. Both Aprilia and Triumph dealerships are quite far away from home so in case of issues, it's be a long drive with a trailer. Which one is likely to be the most reliable bike of the two. I'll be riding a mix of highway and suburbian roads. Average rides of 100-150 miles/day. Thanks guys!
The triumphs engine has been around for awhile and way more refined then the Aprilia...I want the Tuono but reading aprilia forums alot of people are dealing with some serious gremlins
The Trident may well be the value leader in the class now taking over from the MT-07. I think both bikes accomplish the mission well their mfg's. had in mind.

Good review, guys. How long until Triumph updates the Trident to a 765? It’s inevitable IMO. The Trident is a great looking motorcycle. I just wish it was a better motorcycle with higher performance. Throw the MT-07 in this lineup for a nice shootout.
The aprilia is priced over 17k usd here in our country vs the triumph which cost about 10k usd. I’d really love to see more aprilias around here but the cost is not worth it.
Because they’re not in the same category, not really. It’s a very strange comparison. In the UK at least, the Triumph sits with the Z650, MT07, SV650. A beginner friendly, basic suspension 65-80bhp bike. The Tuono is more of a competitor to the MT09, Street Triple, Z900 segment. Better suspension, a more sophisticated electronics package and a similar price. A little underpowered compared to them, but not a million miles away.
The Trident lacked character, throttle was laggy and just felt blah to me when I test rode it last week. Fuelling felt a bit strange and noticed a bit of rev hang at times. Maybe I was just expecting more since all the reviews keep claiming how awesome it is and some even placing it above the Aprilia. I haven’t ridden the Ape yet but seriously doubt that.
Hi, I have a Trident 660 . You can accidentally set the TC and Power to the rain setting, in the road mode. If the test bike was not reset to factory settings before the next test ride. You could be riding in the last setting as it does not default. Cheers Doug 🇬🇧
I own a Trident too. Yes the throttle sucks. It hangs and has delays. But if you get the revs up, that all disappears. Yes it needs a reflash but the thing is so smooth. The tranny is like pure butter. For the price, it’s hard to beat.
Chalk and cheese. Apples and oranges. I'd love the Trident as an every day bike. The Tuono as a third or fourth fun bike, but would want something more useful really. Like at a similar price to the Tuono with the bits that really should be standard - an mt09sp or maybe Street Triple R.
SV650 is a great bike, rock solid, reliable, and good value. If someone has the money for a Tuono, they should definitely consider other bikes first. There are a lot of 900cc+ bikes available for the price of the Tuono. When or if I decide to move on from my SV, it would be for a bike like the new XSR900. That bike has the creature comforts I wouldn't mind having like cruise control, a quick shifter, and a slipper clutch, and costs only $10K.
Unless you're very budget-conscious (in which case you should probably be looking at Japanese bikes, not European exotica), the Aprilia trounces the Triumph: it has IMU-based lean sensitive TC and cornering ABS, cruise control, bigger front discs with 4-piston Brembo calipers (2-piston Nissin setup on the Triumph), ride-by-wire throttle with five riding modes, engine brake modes, anti-wheelie, selectable engine maps, less weight, more power, more torque... It's in a whole different category.
Nice review! But can someone tell me why the Aprilia has the extra direction indicators on the side? In my opinion they are not necessary because the Tuono has its indicators in the headlight 🤷🏻♂️
@@motozest7856 about 100 of them depending on production number are having the engines replaced due to an “issue.” I have yet to see details on what exactly.
@@motozest7856 it's a lot more than 100. People waited weeks or months to get the bike only to have it deemed unsafe after a couple rides. In the US, there isn't a strong dealer network so the replacements could take a very long time. I'm one of the people dealing with this.
Come on guys …that’s a silly talk there….neither one of these bikes are “ entry level, specially the Aprilia! “ maybe Financially “ entry level…..Who would ever look at the Aprilia and think that ll be a great beginner’s bike !! 🤪
looking at both the front tyres of these motorcycles, the Aprilia Pirelli Diablo rosso corsa 2 ?? are well used to the edge, where the Triumph Michelin Road 4 ??.... are hardly even coming down near the edge of the tyre! any specific reason for that??... if you guys really rode these 2 machines on the road for a few days then either the tyres are very different compounds and / or one motorcycle enjoys leaning where the other one prefers cruising?... were the 2 brands of tyres similar in their compounds and road performance? kindly clarify since it indeed has a profound effect on the performance and feel of the motorcycles. Thank you, great video!
If you are on the fence on which bike to buy IMHO get the Triumph , these reviewers need to look at the Tuono again the fit and finish Is not as good as the Triumph ...I know I have a Tuono 660 , there are a lot of bad things going on with the RS/Tuono 660s ATM just read whats going on In the forums . If I could turn the clock back six weeks , I would wait twelve months before I bought my bike maybe by then Aprilia might just have got this bike sorted.
How is it possible that the Aprilia 660 has so much more horse power than the kawasaki 650 or yamaha mt07 twin engines ? Or even the 660 Trident tripple ?
I think the Aprilia is in a different category fellas and hands down a better bike…. price difference is huge and would be better compatible the street triple S…..
Decent comparison, but it just feels like you are trying SUPER hard not to upset those sponsors. So much, "Not in a bad way... That's not a bad thing... Not that there's anything wrong with that..." 🙄 And saying that the Triumph "doesn't give up that much in performance..." is totally not what literally EVERY other YT review says.
Great review guys. I tuned in because I have a Tuono V4 Factory and wanted to see if it was blasphemy to use the Tuono name on a 660. Apparently Aprilia did it right,......Again. I'd love to ride them both. They look like fun.
Yea I Will be honest I really hoped the trident would be a little more spicy. Just a tad. If it just matched the aprillia power wise it would be a hot ticket…or just give us a RS version with upgraded everything included a higher state of tune and I’ll buy it. The trident is so pretty. If only it was a sleeper
That’s a pretty bad comparison and not comparing apples to apples, it would be better to compare the street triple 660s or 675 to the RS660, not a sports bike to a cruiser/cafe racer
Tuono 660 or Trident 660 - if you could get them nearly for the same price (both brand new) 😉❓ That's what I am thinking about right now in cold Germany 🙈😂... decisions, decision 😄
not really in same class tbh......rider has to determine what their looking for. i think people looking for either of these bikes are looking for different things.....i looked at both tbh but went KTM in the end...RS is too expensive and aprilia is as well .....trident was just a little on soft side.....dont want to be switching bikes quickly or being stuck with something kinda blah....not to mention everyone in so cal is marking up the price so MSRP goes out the window......triple RS becomes 17k OtD, trident becomes what the triple should be and aprilia comes in just short of a 1100 tuono.....price is always a factor.......the KTM had the best deals for me anyway..... wish the tuono was closer to a 800cc bike in 115-120 hp range....that would be sweet ass bike
Matte is cool, no arguments there, but it always needs to be an option, it’s a pain to care for long term so it sucks when you can’t choose a normal paint job
Trident = a slow tourer for the elder bikers with affordable price Touno 660 = sport naked that's literally a rs660 with better comfort. Comparison = no

yeah all that part of the exchange did was remind us that maybe all of what your saying is predetermined rather than how info comes out in the course of a real discussion
I used to own an older Yamaha that was just a half faired naked bike and it kinda just looks like Aprilia's modern take on it, but I still essentially see a half faired naked bike, handlebars with the more upright position. I'm guessing it just sounds cooler and more marketable to say "sport naked" but I also don't really see a problem with that either.
good format. dude on the left needs to stop putting words in waheed's mouth, and saying things like "just to get back to..." or "where i wanted to go with that was...". not that it was particularly wrong, but just that it doesn't really flow like he thinks it does. leave those preambles and qualifications out and you'll be golden.
What the hell is 'approachable'? What is 'engaging'? Why would a bike be 'approachable' (meaningless) YET 'affordable'? Why yet? Marketing speak drivel.

Good review, guys. How long until Triumph updates the Trident to a 765? It’s inevitable IMO. The Trident is a great looking motorcycle. I just wish it was a better motorcycle with higher performance. Throw the MT-07 in this lineup for a nice shootout.
Z900 is in the same price range.
That's why they offer the street tripples. The trident is considered entry level! It's a great bike for its chosen market.
The aprilia is priced over 17k usd here in our country vs the triumph which cost about 10k usd. I’d really love to see more aprilias around here but the cost is not worth it.
17k USD ? What country are you in ? Such a big difference sounds so silly.
@@DoctorStrange01 the Philippines. Yup. Exactly my thoughts. Import taxes + corruption. We’re used to it but it’s still a pain.
@@raiseinets3759 it costs 11k in Germany and probably pretty much all Europe, and Triumph like 8k. That's crazy.
Yeah. It’s a shame which is why it’s really hard to own european bikes around here. Well, any bike actually. 😅
@@DoctorStrange01 14k in Malta, prices are insane, yamaha r7 at almost 13k
How does Aprilia make more power in the Tuono 660 than the rest in the segment?
Because they’re not in the same category, not really. It’s a very strange comparison.
In the UK at least, the Triumph sits with the Z650, MT07, SV650. A beginner friendly, basic suspension 65-80bhp bike.
The Tuono is more of a competitor to the MT09, Street Triple, Z900 segment. Better suspension, a more sophisticated electronics package and a similar price. A little underpowered compared to them, but not a million miles away.
@@timothydubber549 It is the sweet spot in-between both of those categories 😆
@@dyoung4184 that’s a really good point and makes a lot of sense. I’m not really used to all that wizardry. My super sport doesn’t even have ABS lol
@1985GusT agree 100%, I test rode it this weekend, I thought it was in rain mode, it wasn't. I'd rather buy sv650
I'd take the Trident of these two, but I'd rather have an SV650 or XSR700. Great review. Two excellent reviewers. Top channel.
@@organichotdog3807 What if Suzuki stuck their 1050 V-twin engine in a naked chassis to create an SV1150?
@@1990-t1j That would be interesting. If it got good reviews, I would definitely add that to my list.
It's also 25% more...so it's not comparable.
@@zacpdx It *should* be 25% more expensive: it's easily 25% more bike.
you are a real fanboy arent you?
Aprilia!!! Middle-class with quickshifter and autoblipper is very rare.
Defining Trident design as British is not exactly what it is, due to the fact that has been designed by Rodolfo Frascoli who is Italian 😁
Nice review! But can someone tell me why the Aprilia has the extra direction indicators on the side? In my opinion they are not necessary because the Tuono has its indicators in the headlight 🤷🏻♂️
In the European market the signals are built into the headlight, but in the North American market they are built out separate!
@@foxyheadhunter2971 Thanks for the answer! Now i understand.
I can not decide :(
Trident is missing 15-20 hp, otherwise great looking bike.
How do you feel about this review now with the current recalls from the Aprilia?
What recalls?
@@motozest7856 about 100 of them depending on production number are having the engines replaced due to an “issue.” I have yet to see details on what exactly.
@@1985GusT Didn't know that. At least Aprilia is owning up to the fact and issuing the recall...
@@motozest7856 it's a lot more than 100. People waited weeks or months to get the bike only to have it deemed unsafe after a couple rides. In the US, there isn't a strong dealer network so the replacements could take a very long time. I'm one of the people dealing with this.
@@1985GusT Bad batch of con rods .
Would Not say no to one of These bikes
Tearing it up in Los Olivos!
I think they should do a review of Michael's 'tache vs. Adam's hair
Come on guys …that’s a silly talk there….neither one of these bikes are “ entry level, specially the Aprilia! “ maybe Financially “ entry level…..Who would ever look at the Aprilia and think that ll be a great beginner’s bike !! 🤪
The trident is definitely entry level
looking at both the front tyres of these motorcycles, the Aprilia Pirelli Diablo rosso corsa 2 ?? are well used to the edge, where the Triumph Michelin Road 4 ??.... are hardly even coming down near the edge of the tyre! any specific reason for that??... if you guys really rode these 2 machines on the road for a few days then either the tyres are very different compounds and / or one motorcycle enjoys leaning where the other one prefers cruising?... were the 2 brands of tyres similar in their compounds and road performance? kindly clarify since it indeed has a profound effect on the performance and feel of the motorcycles.
Really just ordered mine, getting it next tuesday
That's what is putting me off from getting one the forums are full of people not happy with their purchase
Where I live
Trident - 17000$
Tuono - 22000$
So far for inexpensive.
How is it possible that the Aprilia 660 has so much more horse power than the kawasaki 650 or yamaha mt07 twin engines ? Or even the 660 Trident tripple ?
Runs a very high compression rate! 13.1:1 I believe
Most manufacturers de-tune their bikes. Compression rate doesn't really increase horsepower.
Well said.
In india trident is 7 lakhs cheaper than tuono.
TLDW: aprila is better but costs way more, value is probably on the trident
Great review guys. I tuned in because I have a Tuono V4 Factory and wanted to see if it was blasphemy to use the Tuono name on a 660. Apparently Aprilia did it right,......Again. I'd love to ride them both. They look like fun.
Take a shot every time they say tuono.
RIP.
Give these guys some real chairs
So the more expensive and sportier bike is more expensive feeling and sportier...
I dunno, if you guys rode both in a potholed city setting, smooth pavement ... like ?
An editor should know the difference between a Marque and a Marquee.
Buyer beware! My Aprilia Tuono 660 broke after 9000 miles. And now my engine has to be replaced under warranty.
made in italy vs some uk flags on a bike built somewhere in thailand..
😂😆🤣
Too much electronics in modern bikes that makes drivers lazy
Trident = a slow tourer for the elder bikers with affordable price
Touno 660 = sport naked that's literally a rs660 with better comfort.
Comparison = no
They are both sport nakeds and are both marketed as such
I'll say aprilla is the winer
Although both bikes are 660 ,comparing them is totally wrong !
As a beginner myself I would recommend a turbo nayabusa to any new rider
More to road riding than power
Non-pro tip…don’t say “yea Michael” it instantly serves as a shocking reminder the conversational format is still rehearsed. I get that it has to be, but no need to remind us, and nobody says the other persons name in normal non show business/news conversation. BACK TO YOU, ADAM. 😅
Now I have to rewind 3 minutes because i totally missed every word you guys said while I was typing this
yeah all that part of the exchange did was remind us that maybe all of what your saying is predetermined rather than how info comes out in the course of a real discussion
@@jpslayermayor9293 agree 100% it literally zapped me out of suspension of disbelief
How is the Aprilia a "sport naked" as it has a fairing??? Also, Aprilia is one of the worst rated in reliability... These guys are schills
Ya I don't get that either what the hell is a sport naked? That's kind of an oxymoron.
India difference is both bike have 50% price , 10 lac rs trident and more then 15 lac rs tuono 660 , 😂
What the hell is 'approachable'? What is 'engaging'? Why would a bike be 'approachable' (meaningless) YET 'affordable'? Why yet? Marketing speak drivel.
why critique 2 words that have obvious meanings, unless you live under a rock.
