Destroy All Astromen- mandatory listening. Their live shows were way more visually intense. Tesla coil, computers and wires everywhere. Flaming helmets! Nice to see they're still playing.
Holy Crap, I just found this band!!! I was lead here from looking up a member of the old ska punk band Against All Authority. It said the member had been involved in Space Punk bands? I'm like what the heck is Space Punk. Then I found this band Man or Astro-man. Holy hell this is pretty cool.
Best live performance ever, flames and flashes all over the stage. Coolest outfits and gadgets. I saw them performing at Doornroosje in Nijmegen (NL) around '94. We were skateboarding during the concert as not many people showed up. After the gig we had beers with them and they crashed our bicycles and we laughed our asses off.
Went to see them once in Tempe Arizona… And they werent there… It was just a video that was streamed in live from somewhere in the south… One of my favorite shows ever
I saw one of the "clones tours" live in san diego many years ago at The Casbah. What a great show. If i'm remembering correctly they threw snack cakes at us and had a van-de-graff generator. It was great.
erik cyree I was there in 98. EEVIAC release, the casbah. kettner dr. SDCA. they had fiber optic wire strung up all over the club and bar. Tesla coil was present at the end of show. Their tour van was a white Astrovan with Astro Labratories printed in small type on the side. Transcendent.
Over the years Starcrunch has played a Fender Jaguar, Gretsch Country Gentleman, and best known for playing a Mosrite. They're now playing Mosrite copies by Hallmark guitars.
La primera vez que tocaron en México fue en León y fue gratis.ahi estuve bajo la lluvia y estuvo bien verga. Ahora ya regresaron dos veces en el festival wild on pero nad que ver con esa ocasión. Gratis el MorA. Yeahhh.
Fan from france here. I have been dreaming for a correct video of those guys playing together for a long time. The "Time Bomb" DVD was great but it didn't have close up. And watch how they totally catch the interviewer. This is nothing but an abduction !
Great performance and what a great talk in between tracks! Such a force of awesomeness these guys are. Remember starting to listen to the band when I was like 15, I am now ... a bit older than that. Now there is a rip in the space time continuum for you. Man or Astro-man? rock!
Saw them at the Middle East downstairs in Boston back in 2010. So fucking good. 1st time I heard them was actually on a Beavis and Butthead cartoon in 93. One of my fav bands.
I've seen them live five or six times but never with the great Star Crunch playing. Would love to see them again. Defcon 54321 might be their best album.
Poor Brian looks like he's dying up there, pouring sweat. Che Erasmus, it is indeed an awesome thing to behold. The last time I saw them it was their reunion at Bottletree in Birmingham, he and his fiances place. They of course broke out the Tesla coil for that. I got in free and had an awesome time. I was good friends with Brian's younger brother in high school.
Driving to Portland (2 1/2 hour drive) to see these guys rock out a week from Sat. I CAN'T WAIT! I'll be the oldest guy in the audience dressed STEAMPUNK, baby!
I believe if this is Star Crunch, at he is at his musical best one of the greatest unsung guitarist ever... As is the band Man or Astro-man? I grew up watching Jetsons, NASA space launches, pipeline surfing, cliff diving and Jacques Cousteau, So its like they took all that stuck it into some unholy space mama and she birthed out this spectacular sound!
I love bands with personalities. And to mix Dinosaur Jr. and The Ventures with Devo visuals just blows my ever lovin' mind. Thanks for sharing this band with us, KEXP. You have the best radio station in the world! :)
I enjoy listening to metal (Opeth, Machine Head, Slayer and etc), but put in some Man or Astro-Man? and I'm in heaven! Love these guys and finally will have the chance to see them next month (and it only took 16 years to do so)!
Add some Brian Jonestown Massacre-ish and Nirvana,, pop elements songwriting and there's World domination. I just love this instant in 2020,, never dared to listen before this Corona quarantine Plaque Armageddon. I see it's the end and i have to discover all the greats and this is in that category. I really love this shit.
"People from earth don't consider earth part of outer space, but it is."
I love these guys.
As I was hearing it I was reading your comment
lmao and I love you
Space travel doesn't even have to cover outer space! ❤️ Stellar performance; wonderful host.
I fucking love KEXP, if you know the right bands there's so many more to explore.
This is awesome. It's like Dick Dale meets Sonic Youth.
Good call
Would you review my album? That was a very accurate description. :)
RIP Dick Dale
The bass player has a Devo thing going on...
plus pixies
A most welcome return from their hiatus in space. Unquestionably the most underrated band ever.
The young Dj was trying to get trolled. Time and time again she held her own, against an almost Man or Astroman? setup, props. Give this girl a raise!
The call and response rapport between her and the band is AMAZING.
This performance should've been 13 hours long.
Destroy All Astromen- mandatory listening. Their live shows were way more visually intense. Tesla coil, computers and wires everywhere. Flaming helmets! Nice to see they're still playing.
Bring a tv you get in free.
i asked coco about the Tesla coil and he said it would fry the electronics in the room so they stopped using it... :/
As a Hawkwind fan I love this head on collision between surf rock and space rock :-)
I saw them at the 40 watt lounge in Athens ga 25 years ago, i took my brother there for his 18th birthday.

Cool man. The best thing about less popular bands is that they seem to have more of a connection with their fans.
that sounds legendary, what a good memory
then came rammstein and wiped their live show off the map don't get me wrong love this band but as for live show rammstein hands down above all
@@melissaderp8357 I guess I get what you’re saying but, like, you’re comparing apples to giant blood-soaked German dildos :/
I met them at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh in the late nineties. Hung out with them after. Very cool people!
That Bass though!! CoCo man, you a trip to the nebular starcastic power. Love this galactic Quartet.
These guys have been one of my all time fav's since the mid 90's. Ive been fortunate enough to see them live and they are AMAZING!!!!!
has anyone seen these guys live when they pull out their home made Tesla high voltage air arcing and crackling madness. Thats showmanship! and crafty
yeah back in 97. they were amazing.
They use to throw Little Debbie "Star Crunches" in to the audience... So friggin AWESOME!!!
saw them at the turf club in St Paul, mN, great evening~!
yeah I saw them when I was like 8, pretty far out shit
I saw them in the early 90's in Brixton UK, when I was a proper grown up adult and everything.
I was today years old when I learned of the Man or Astro-Man. What a carnival of insanity and excellence 😱😱😱
Totally forgot about this band, what a great find!
Reminds me so much of Shadowy Men
Went to see them once in Tempe Arizona… And they werent there… It was just a video that was streamed in live from somewhere in the south… One of my favorite shows ever
When science teachers rock,
they rock the hardest.
Kexp needs to bring thses guys back on, just absolutely amazing
Man Or Astroman all day loooonnnggggg
Stumbled upon this band after searching for Dick Dale. I like the name, so I gave them a listen. I'm glad I did!
go see a live show if you can. youll be glad you did that too
Dick Dale & The Coffin Daggers brought me here too. We have excellent taste in music.
Q: Are We Not Man?
A: We Are Astro-Man!
I see what you did there!
Devo
A: WE ARE MAN OR ASTROMAN?
These guys are great.. remind me of the Band Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet
Listening to SMOASP brought me here!
This band is awesome why am I only hearing about this after 7 years!!!!
I saw one of the "clones tours" live in san diego many years ago at The Casbah. What a great show. If i'm remembering correctly they threw snack cakes at us and had a van-de-graff generator. It was great.

For all you new to MOAM, glad you found them. I grew up in the early 90s listening to my older brothers vinyl record Destroy all astromen. cheers!
Over the years Starcrunch has played a Fender Jaguar, Gretsch Country Gentleman, and best known for playing a Mosrite.
They're now playing Mosrite copies by Hallmark guitars.
I find it absofuckinglutely incredible that the bassist is playing blind how much skill must he have

Just came here after finding out these guys made the Jimmy Newtron's theme song
Great performance and what a great talk in between tracks! Such a force of awesomeness these guys are. Remember starting to listen to the band when I was like 15, I am now ... a bit older than that. Now there is a rip in the space time continuum for you. Man or Astro-man? rock!
been in love with these guys since 94.. thanks kexp!
I was at that Numbs show! They did bring the Crazy Ass Energy :)
I'm the only one who wanted to hear the Mother Love Bone cover?
I was like "really?" for a second haha
Simply fantastic performance by a simply fantastic band. Love these guys!!
Used to watch these guys in Huntsville back in the late 90’s. Always a fun show.
Just saw them last night at 529 in East Atlanta. Absolutely awesome!
Saw them a few times in '94 they were excellent
That is the prettiest radio dj I have ever seen.
I demand that Man Or Astro-Man? play in Poughkeepsie, NY! And by demand I mean, please? I'm tracking you guys now on the Bandsintown app.

This band is pure energy!!! amazing!!!!
Outstanding performance.
This is one of my favorite instrumental songs. I love it! !! And the rest of the set
Saw them at the Middle East downstairs in Boston back in 2010. So fucking good. 1st time I heard them was actually on a Beavis and Butthead cartoon in 93. One of my fav bands.
Bands that make the world a better place : )
I was privileged to provide Sam Paulsen a classic guitar a while back. Cool lady. Real deal.
I LIVED IN 2511 MOFFETT where yall rehearsed before, KMFDM lived there as well.
Seen them in Hamburg - great time!
Awesome! We see them next Monday in Detroit with the Amino Acids. I can not wait!
OMG... What a beautiful host.
I've seen them live five or six times but never with the great Star Crunch playing. Would love to see them again. Defcon 54321 might be their best album.

Brian Causey and his team are incredible. Jimmy Neutron for life.
Driving to Portland (2 1/2 hour drive) to see these guys rock out a week from Sat. I CAN'T WAIT!

5 years later and this comment is still cringeworthy

Such an awesome band.
Top, top band. Funny and cool as hell. Loved them for 20+ years. Not done a duff album.
Best live show on the planet.
This planet anyway.
muy buena banda!!
Saw them live with about 20 other people and it was amazing
Coco is right in the pocket straight out of the gate! Making it look easy.
The guitarist/ vocalist gives off some Steve Albini vibes for me.
Brilliant
Great drummer !!!!!!

I enjoy listening to metal (Opeth, Machine Head, Slayer and etc), but put in some Man or Astro-Man? and I'm in heaven! Love these guys and finally will have the chance to see them next month (and it only took 16 years to do so)!
You should check out the Nonagon Infinity album by King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. It's like if Motorhead and Man or Astroman combined.
Sublime 🎉
This is a fantastic set!
Great band
they have still got it.
They're awesome!
The drummer is my hero.
Add some Brian Jonestown Massacre-ish and Nirvana,, pop elements songwriting and there's World domination. KEXP seems like a cool radio channel
Ultimate sign of trust dudes - I just posted you guys to my FaceBook page. Keep it coming!
It's like Space Surf... I love it xD
Saw them in SF this year after some bus snafu. We got to see less props because of that, but still was one of the best shows in my life.
Kings of space and surf!
i could watch them all day talking...funneh
Surfed-out Devo, love it!
