- Man or Astro-man live on "The Beat Room" Filmed at the G7 in Glasgow for BBC Choice Scotland, This recording is taken from a Konica pro grade VHS HiFi studio tape. Man or Astro-man? is an American surf rock group that formed in Auburn, Alabama in the early 1990s and came to prominence over the following decade. Primarily instrumental, Man or Astro-man? blended the surf rock style of the early 1960s like that of Dick Dale and The Spotnicks with the new wave and punk rock sounds of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Growing up in Alabama, I totally idolized these guys. Saw them several times in this era and the creativity of the show and their energy always blew me away.

Saw them in Edinburgh at either the venue or the music box/liquid rooms. Start of the set the one of the band walked through the crowd with a motorcycle helmet that was on fire! Petrol was cheaper then of course.
Birdstuff - absolute beast on the drums.

For years, I’ve been wondering what happened to this guitarist. With Eeviac and Spectrum, he’s one of my biggest guitar heroes of all time. What a set list. I can’t believe he’s doing this with that Danelectro.

he now plays for his own band called #1 family mover i think and star crunch (the original guitarist for moam?) came back in 2006 for the touch and go 25th anniversary show and then started joining moam? again

Yes they are Canadian. Dim the Lights and Chill the Ham is another album. The song, Having an Average Weekend is the theme for the Kids in the Hall sketch show. Obscure, great stuff. Thanks

The first time I traveled solo for a long distance performance was when they invaded the California grid sector for the reunion tour w/ Victor Vector . The venue was 21+ so my spaced out drummer couldn't make it , in his stead I brought his home made theremin which the whole band autographed , Coco was perturbed that prior to the performance dicks at the venue charged me extra to have it forcibly confined to the "coat check" , and I quote " you mean we could of had THREE of these on stage?!" (Singer of the octopus project brought hers up for the finalé) I apologized & griped about them not having pins at the merch table and being too broke to afford anything else , he took me over to the table with the words "you come to a Man . . . or Astroman show with a WORKING THEREMIN you get HOOKED UP ."
I STILL have the T-shirt and proudly only wear it for exceptional occasions .

I never met any of Man … or Astro-man? - although I saw the Chicago leg of their 2011 reunion tour at the Metro, where they blew the lid off the joint - but my friend Frank quit film production to develop electric buses and motorcycles, and through their mutual involvement in a media project (filming an electric bus touring the country reporting on environmental initiatives), in the later 2010s he met CoCo the Electronic Monkey Wizard in Atlanta, Georgia, and he is reportedly every bit as friendly and kind and open-hearted as you describe!!

Wow! Thanks for this. I was there (and am visible a few times). I can remember that Birdstuff was full of the flu at this show - hunched over the drums, suffering, between songs, and then erupting with energy when required. There were a few glitches with the performance; I wonder what happened to the outtakes...
You were lucky to have been there. I doubt the outtakes exist, I was told that only a few episodes of this show exist in the archives, don't know if that's true or not.

This recording was on the 25th January 2000.
The intro had to be cut off, because when this video was originally uploaded with the long intro by me a three years ago it only achieved 1200 views, so here it is uploaded again, with the intro removed and it has had 2500 view inside three days.
