@Scorpio Bradley Haha, why does this now feel like a Labron/Jordan debate?? ... Problems with Aang aside, he would have squashed everyone Korra faced, finesse or no.
@Scorpio Bradley understandable . But I think what at people don’t understand that avatars can’t make everyone happy . Every avatar failed at something . Kyoshi didn’t cause she be slaying everyone but that’s whatever . Each avatar had flaws and aang was seen as mythical and the last hope . While Korra lived isolated for a while and is not aang or lives in a world that sees her as mythical or last hope. The world is changing and the avatar is feeling less needed everyday. And Korra’s villains would have rocked aang way more than the villains they had in the original show IMO. All in all Korra needs to be cut some slack post season 2 cause I didn’t like her in season 2 first half . But yeah.
@@Kyubii01 Each avatar had their mistakes. I feel like this series shows Korra more in a very mixed light (so sometimes you rooted for her and other times you are frustrated with her) but with Avatar most times you rooted with Aang (more than you were frustrated with him). Not me personally, but with the story framing what it might make someone feel as a general viewer.
@@raec5426 The approach to characterization is different, that's why. In ATLA, if Aang ever "frustrated" you, it was immediately resolved by the end of the episode (in very sitcom-format storytelling). With Korra, her development is a lot like Zuko - yes, they're going to frustrate you because sometimes its two steps forward, one step back. But it works in the long run and is actually much better than the sitcom style of character. This is why I always say Zuko/Korra is a better character than Aang.
@Joshua DeGraffe yes let's shame the woman who was locked in a compound for 16 years and was given no frame of reference of whom her uncle was and was only told "don't work with him" because the other men in her life clearly didn't like him
@Joshua DeGraffe Harmonic convergence gave Zaheer his bending, not korra, so the Queens death was gonna happen regardless if he were to have ever escaped (which was all the white lotus' fault). Everyone's mistrustful of Unalaq but no one will tell her why and the only explanation they give is "I don't trust him" "you don't know him like I know him" as if people can't or don't change over the years. Let's not forget, unlike us the viewers, she's not privy to any extra information outside of her own frame of reference. She's not seeing every evil look he gives the camera nor is she hearing the suspenseful music playing in the background like we are. People are annoyed by her naivete but forget that seasons 1 and 2 happen within weeks of one another and season 3 is roughly 2 months after season 2 ends, so not much would change in personality there, she's also had no time to process the loss of the past lives, no time to research the vines or travel to the spirit world since the mortal world has so many issues, she's literally thrown from one crisis to another another she's forced to sit it out for 3 years and focus on herself.
@Joshua DeGraffe Harmonic convergence happens like clockwork every 10,000 years, it's unavoidable. This was stated by BOTH Ravaa and Vaatu, the only thing that WOULDN'T have happened had the portals stayed closed during the event was Vaatu's escape. And that only happened because Unalaq used Jinora** as a bargaining chip to get the portal opened, it was literally either that or let jinora die.
The reason Zaheer was so skilled with air bending right off the bat is that he studies the air benders and their way of life even as a non-bender. But yes he was extremely nasty even before that.
A curiosity about avatar. When the genocide in the temples of the air occurred, some airbenders fled and hid in the earth kingdom, this is shown in some avatar comics. The harmonious convergence gave airbending to those people who were not benders but who were descended from the nomads of the air.

So the theory is that those who are non benders and are descendants of air benders, they obtained airbending. Alot of people were mixed race like Avatar Kioshi and Aang’s kids. During the 100 year war, alot of air benders were killed. The ones that survived married into the other nations, mostly earth, masked their tats like what Kioshi’s mom did, and suppressed their bending and spirituality. Now that the portals are open, alot of energy is put into the world and has activated that “air bender gene” in the descendants.
Ahhh I love this season!!! They were excited for the air bending villain but little do they know.... lava boy, water lady, and the boom boom chick are all about to join him 🥴
There’s a theory that when the fire nation attacked, airbenders’ spirits escaped to the spirit world. So when Korra opened the portals, the spirits of the airbenders found new hosts.
A lot of interesting things happening this season 🔥. I always liked this introduction to Zaheer, soundtrack and all. The fact he's locked up in a highly-secure chamber, on an isolated platform, let's you know he's (and his friends) already nasty.
Y’all forget this is still Korra’s first year being an active Avatar. Season 2 started 6 months after Amon’s capture, and lasted like a month and half - 2 months. Season 1 happened over the course of like 2 - 3 months, too. It’s been like a year. She’s literally like 10 months in. Cut this baby some slack. She’s like 16/17.
"You erased your phone" nah more like somebody stole her phone. She definitely made mistakes from being naïve, but even that isn't entirely her fault. Her fault is that she trusted her uncle, and can you really blame her for that? Everyone so quick to blame her for loss of the connection as if she did it to herself and it wasn't taken from her.
For the hate mainly I think it's just the execution of how it's done. Yes it wasn't her fault but it just kept the shows weird fetish of pushing korra into a position that makes her weak or perceived weak mean while as they gas her up to just kick her back down
Not just the air nomads but also the dragons and everyone else who died during the 100-Year War that started because of Aang running away. It's kinda interesting how everyone who's so quick to drag Korra for L's that she wasn't entirely responsible for don't also drag Aang for the massive 100-year L that he was directly responsible for.
I blame the the writers for that more than Korra. He isn't victim blaming her lost of the her past lives is a direct consequence of opening the spirit portal. Aangs situation was unavoidable as the Fire Nation would have killed him as he was not ready and they were fully prepared. Its actually better he left.
Each avatar fixes what the last avatar couldn’t. Aang ended the 100 year war when Roku couldn’t, and Korra brought back the air nomads which Aang caused the extinction in a way
You get airbending and you get airbending! 😂😂😂...smart fact that the spirit world being open brings back balance by adding more airbenders...never thought of it that way 🤔
"this dude is a problem" oooh you have no idea... in my opinion, Zaheer is the best villain of the show and season 3 in general is just awesome. can't wait to hear your thoughts.
Just imagine how bad ass that villlain is, he's so powerful even tough he's just a noob airbender,, he was able defeat multiple members of the white lotus..
I like to think the new airbenders are descendants of airbenders who escaped the genocide and lost their bending because of lack of spiritual practices and locations.
yeah, people are getting triggered over him making fun of her and i dont see it. they say everyone is allowed to have their opinions but keep trashing on the man because he doesnt like her. i guess they think that understanding korra makes you love her? i understand why she does what she does but that doesnt mean i gotta like her lol.
I believe the reason Korra could energy bend was because while in the avatar state, she has all the powers of her past lives, meaning she could use Aang's abilities. She never actually learned energy bending, she just used the avatar state to do it.
I'm so confused why they think Korra is responsible for losing her connection to her past lives. She got massively overpowered by Unalaq and Vaatu, and it's not like she didn't try her best to fight it but once Raava was stolen from her it was basically over. It honestly comes off a little victim-blamey, not a fan of this attitude at all.
Losing the avatar's past life sucks, right? Almost as bad as allowing the air nomads be exterminated because you were afraid (for Aang), and/or Sozen was your best pal and deserves another chance (for Roku). No one intended any of those things, but they are what they are.
Maybe the reason why air benders have always had a civilization of peaceful monks is because the world and the air benders themselves knew how much of a problem they'd be if they didn't have such spiritually inclined lifestyles lol. Having a villian air bender truly was an amazing decision on the writer's part for the show!
So since they brought it up I think the reason Korra didn't take away the new airbenders abilities is because they already discussed that the new airbenders were meant to restore balance and rebuild the air nation so she would have been directly undermining the positive/balance restoring side effect of Harmonic Convergence. But unless it happens in the comics she actually just might not be able to take bending since we never see her do it but it'd be kinda dumb if she could restore bending yet not be able to take it.

@Lady Seashell Bikini exactly. Also Korra didn't "create" this guy like they said, he was such a PROBLEM already that they kept her locked away for 17 years. He was gonna get out one way or another that's how great of a villain he is. Most of the sht that happened in season 2 wasn't Korra's fault and I'm getting tired of hearing her get trashed on everywhere. People seem to forget that Aang had it much different and Korra has it much more difficult than he did. If Aang was in Korra's position in season 2 he would have done the exact same thing since he's such a spiritual guy.
Wan- separated spirits from humans
Yangchen- preferred humans over spirits
Kuruk- practically wasted his life because he wasn't decisive
Kyoshi- failed to represent peace
Roku- couldn't stop the 100 year war
Aang- couldn't stop the destruction of his culture and people
Korra- couldn't stop the destruction of her past lives
I feel like this series shows Korra more in a very mixed light (so sometimes you rooted for her and other times you are frustrated with her) but with Avatar most times you rooted with Aang (more than you were frustrated with him). Not me personally, but with the story framing what it might make someone feel as a general viewer.
@@raec5426
The approach to characterization is different, that's why.
I like how they started the series saying they wont compare, then ended up comparing.
Then wouldnt give her grace when she's still a teenager.

And that only happened because Unalaq used Jinora** as a bargaining chip to get the portal opened, it was literally either that or let jinora die.

episode 1: sheera... He gonna unlock the technique, where the feet never touch the ground

I like that Lupa started asking "where's the antagonist" RIGHT when he is about to be introduced
There’s a theory that when the fire nation attacked, airbenders’ spirits escaped to the spirit world. So when Korra opened the portals, the spirits of the airbenders found new hosts.
I prefer the one where everyone who got bending had an Airbender in their ancestry somewhere, and harmonic convergence unlocked it

Yes it wasn't her fault but it just kept the shows weird fetish of pushing korra into a position that makes her weak or perceived weak mean while as they gas her up to just kick her back down
I feel like we should've had a good idea about what kind of antagonist Zaheer was when we found out that Henry Rollins was voicing him.
Lupos victim blaming tho 😳 Korra lost the past lives like Aang killed the air nomads...
Lupa's kinda been annoying lately, ngl
Not just the air nomads but also the dragons and everyone else who died during the 100-Year War that started because of Aang running away.
It's kinda interesting how everyone who's so quick to drag Korra for L's that she wasn't entirely responsible for don't also drag Aang for the massive 100-year L that he was directly responsible for.
He reminding me of Rob from RT TV with how he is with some characters. lol

@@addollz6192 I know this is fvcking late, but your comment was 💯
I believe the reason Korra could energy bend was because while in the avatar state, she has all the powers of her past lives, meaning she could use Aang's abilities. She never actually learned energy bending, she just used the avatar state to do it.

@@GradietPanda12345 Exactly. The good ol' Tiktok "it's a joke/meme" excuse to try and evade criticism after saying something dumb.
All avatars fucked up in one way and only Korra gets the hate...it makes 0 sense
@@DarthKay093 Yeah the hate is getting really annoying
