Thank you for this video. I have read the Problem of Pain, as I was dealing with grief, but truly found it too theoretical. However, this seems like something I need to get my hands on.

It's really crazy that I have only read one book by C.S. Lewis, namely "Mere Christianity", because every time I hear a quote from one of his books, I'm amazed by how perfectly he communicates these important thoughts :)

Still a classic review !!! I have a honest question ? What happens to the bible teachings and what does the church say if life is found somewhere other than earth? 🤔 there is a mathematical number for how big the universe is 😂😂 I need a calculater to add 67+96 😂😂

It's heavy stuff, waves of doubt. As far as grief goes, "If we can no longer speak with the dead, let us never stop speaking of them." St Jerome. Pray for us. And the dearly Departed.

Your evaluation of the book is spot on. I was pleasantly surprised you had this level of insight.

Thank you for this review! I'm reading it right now and its lack of structure, its unpolished quality, and its plaintive repetitiveness are oddly comforting to me. I journal a lot and it's nice to see that even a great writer can ramble (in a thought provoking way) when hurting.

Anyone who can articulate the death of a loved one as C.S.Lewis has always gets 10 out of 10.

This is quite a difficult topic for me. I literally cannot choose to be anything other than a Christian, because of intellectual facts that I have observed, which I can't really get into here for the sake of space. I've gone through a lot of pain in my life, much of it caused by being on the autism spectrum and having two emotionally and psychologically abusive parents who can't admit to doing anything wrong and most of the time never seemed to be the least bit bothered by how they hurt me. Even well into my adulthood, I'm still dealing with the ways they messed me up in their ineptitude and (sometimes) malice.
What bothers me isn't that I've gone through that pain. I know perfectly well that everyone suffers, and has ever since the Fall of Man. What bothers me is that God has never answered a single prayer in my life in a way that I can both understand, and can say definitively "This is God speaking to me". God, to my brain that is more rational than the average person's (not saying that to boost myself up, it's just how my mind works), has always been completely and utterly silent to me, no matter how sincerely or intensely I've prayed, and no matter how humbled I was before speaking to Him. Few things are harder than believing that someone who has always, to use a rather harsh metaphor, been a deadbeat dad to you, actually loves you and wants the best for you.

I understand. The thing is that very few effects of prayer can be definetively traced back to a supernatural cause. Usually, it's impossible to completely eliminate the possibility of a natural cause. So I imagine that when in doubt, you believe that it was a natural cause - absolutely understandable. There is no guarantee that you'll ever experience the direct effects of your prayer. What might have an increased chance of working is if you pray for a virtue - for example humility.
Also, I personally didn't like this book, but it might be just the right thing for you: th-cam.com/video/3d7WpNKu4iE/w-d-xo.html
