NOTES: Shaking in the trees at around 6:28 is from BETA firmware, that does NOT occur in the launch firmware. All audio unless stated is from the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. (stuff I forgot to mention in my video, sorry)
8 BIT log? that's really really crazy and ridiculous. And have you test the overheating? some other test in night mode with 4K30 the battert life of ACEPRO2 is only about 30min? which OA5PRO more than 2hours, could you please also test that?
@@AdamHreszczyk That is something both of them have, but in my experience the Ace Pro 1 and the Ace Pro 2 have a lot less as A.I. counter the jitter effects.
Really nice video. The only thing I liked better on the ace was the clouds. The nighttime was a toss up. It looks better hands down on the action 5 pro, BUT you can see more in the ace. So it depends on if seeing more is more important to overall image quality. I feel like the action 5 would see the same if you fiddled with the contrast settings. That seems like all they did on the ace pro.
I guess this video provides the most accurate and most information that people might want to know, along with actual tests. Thanks a lot. It helps me decide which device to buy.
in many years this is probably the only useful review of an action cam i've ever sees, just because of the length and the simple, coherent way it's made. kudos
Can't imagine the amount of work you put into this Philip so thank you kindly. Ace Pro 2 definitely wins the low light comparison hands down without a doubt. That being said, it looks a bit over sharpened even with HDR off while the Action 5 Pro looks more natural. The main advantage of the Action 5 Pro very few reviewers mention or will ever mention is the support for 2x wireless bluetooth mics for vlogging either with a friend or as couples while keeping the camera waterproof and weatherproof. I can't do without this in my scenario unfortunately as much as I love the new Ace Pro 2.
Thank You, yes, it is a lot of work, but I love it. I am hoping Insta360 get to the point where they can allow 2 bluetooth signals at the same time, as currently we only have 1, so we can connect the DJI Mic 2 wirelessly, but it does sound better natively on the Action 5 Pro, let's be honest here. I think if I drop the Insta360 down another level in sharpness it might look even cleaner, yes.
I still prefer Action 5 Pro against Ace Pro 2. It is cheaper, has built in memory, small size and has front/rear screen. Thanks for the side-2-side comparison. I already have Ace Pro 1 and Action 5 Pro, really don't see a point to upgrade to Ace Pro 2.
@@looks-fq2gq The problem with the Action 5 Pro is the lens is shaped like a nipple and it creates trumpet flares, some people might like that, some might not.
@@PhillipSkraba i don't think anyone would like the shape of those lens flare, during day time paired with the shape of the sun, it looks like a giant spoon in the sky.
What still doesn't convince me about Ace Pro 2 (and 1) is the strong image processing. Even on minimal settings the image is too sharp and looks very unnatural. Dlog mode in Action 5 does a great job. Unfortunately, these are now less and less "sports" cameras. For typical vlogging applications, the best for me remains Pocket 3. As for HDR mode in Ace pro 2 and 1, it is also not an HLG image like in Action 5. HLG is normally detected as HDR by any TV with this function.
I don't know, I don't feel any strong image processing on the Ace Pro 2, except in low light, where both the DJI and Insta360 use strong image processing to get their cameras looking best. D-Log M is nice, yes. I love the Pocket 3, but I HATE using it for vlogging as everything except for me is out of focus and I'm constantly worried about the gimbal, whereas with these action cameras I just throw them in my pocket without a care in the world. The Action 5 Pro does have a HLG profile, yes, but I never use that. Both however do have HDR in normal 8-bit (and 10-bit on the DJI), BUT in the Ace Pro 2 you can turn that nasty plastic fantastic look off, something I really wish they introduce into the Action 5 Pro.
What convinces me is clear from the opening frame. Looking at the skies behind in broad daylight Ace Pro2 aces it and the DJI is all smudged sky and field. At night the Ace Pro is also streets ahead and without the annoying DJI cone flares. AP2 clear winner, literally.
@@SideTripLife If you like unnatural and oversharped image could be a winner for you. I am using only Dlog so directly from camera looks washout. Both camera are great same sensor.
@@SideTripLife Well, the Ace Pro 2 doesn't make their HDR look so flat, but to be honest I prefer it with HDR off, it just looks way more natural, and I wish DJI would give us an update to be able to turn HDR off.
Phillip, I just want to say that you are a really honest and genuine reviewer. I like that you don’t throw either camera under the bus, and you just give a very real and honest review. I love my DJI action 5 and I’m probably gonna get an Ace pro 2. No doubt, both really good cameras and both doing a great job. I appreciate the fact that you aren’t shilling for one or the other. You are just telling it like it is! I’m saving up for the Ace Pro 2, and it will happily join my Action 5 (and my GoPro 12 which I still get a lot of enjoyment out of). Thank you for being such a fair and generous reviewer. You’re the best! Always look forward to your reviews!
Thank You! Well, in a comparison like this, I believe in being silent, showing the audience what each camera can do and let them decide what they prefer.
This is such a nice breakdown very natural. Currently, I have the action five. Not sure if I wanna pull the trigger on the ace pro 2 yet. I really wanted to dual compatibility with the DJI mic pro 2 so that’s why I will be keeping it. You are AWESOME!!
Thank You! I made a point of making my comparison as simple and everyday as possible, and to put as few of my opinions in this comparison as I can too, so you guys can decide what you prefer.
That was a really comprehensive and useful look at both cameras. What I will never understand in the comments is why so many people find the low light capabilities of action cameras so important. I can see which is better between the two, but is that really a compelling argument for buying one? We all know that the sensors are far too small to even come close to taking a satisfactory low light picture. That's not what action cameras are made for. I have the impression that such values have taken on a life of their own and only a few people think about the extent to which this is really crucial for this type of camera and what it is made for. I don't mean you, the TH-camr. You are obliged to describe these camera properties too. But if I really want to see details in the dark, then I'll use a full-frame camera and not one with such a small sensor. I also think that if you suddenly find yourself in the awkward situation of having to/wanting to take a picture at night, then it's good to have a small low light monster. But actually, for me, this would never be a purchase decision, but rather a "nice to have".
Tell me about it! I never use these are night, unless I'm making a video for my audience, but others want these to perform like Sony A7SIII's in low light, which is crazy. That being said they do perform well at night, and I will drop a comparison between them tomorrow using their latest firmwares in low light.
Not sure why but feel like Action 5 pro perform better in lot of scenarios like underwater, polish soup, every scene when sun behind you and etc....was waiting for the Ace 2 pro for so long and I think I am going for the Action 5 pro. Thanks a lot for putting these together!!
No one dares to talk about this camera's overheating and battery life issues; they deliberately avoid it. The battery life in 4K30 night mode might be only 30min from other test.
worth to mention this comparison done before the oa5 update. footage captured with standard bitrate. With higher bitrate, the winner will be much clearer. Filesize would suck tho haha. and Atleast for now, ace pro 2 will have their own update. Great review as always. But I am also curious about photography on this thing which most reviewers left out.
Thanks! Yes, that's totally true. Here is my video on the new bitrate update from DJI, watch it and come back to me when you have a clearer idea of what it does - th-cam.com/video/HcbjnR9EMCU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qLznTxAj6ZVcKkPQ
Never seen an 8k shot before, Ace pro 2 did impress me a lot. For small action cameras like this, the image quality is beyond my imagination. Cool tech.
This is the first video I've been able to really see the face focus issues of the A2 that everyone keeps talking about, and I have been testing both of these myself. I am so torn on which one of these to keep right now. Doing my own test and still watching YT reviews LOL
No face issues on the Ace Pro 2. In my tests it has closer focus than the Ace Pro 1, which had a long minimum focus and it’s also closer than the Action 5 Pro. Get a tape measure and test it for yourself, mine comes in at about 1cm closer.
@@PhillipSkraba I think it was primarily when you had the dive mode on when you were in the pool. It appeared the A2 was struggling to find focus a little. Either way, they’re both great cameras. I’ve just seen and heard a lot of other comments about the face focus on the A2. I’m testing them and hadn’t noticed it in my own videos, but was able to see it ever so slightly in yours. Maybe I’m wrong. I’m leaning towards the A2 anyways for my primary use case.
@@TimDillardPhotography Ahh ok, yes, that mode isn't made for overwater, I did make a note of that in the video. It is specially distorted to compensate for what's going on underwater. The Ace Pro 1 had a problem for sure, as to the point that we'd use diopters, but then started just holding the camera further. The Ace Pro 2, I've been testing it for about 2 months now I think, and its focus is on par, if not just 1cm closer than the Action 5 Pro, just ever so slightly. Yes, both great cameras, I think anyone would be happy with either, it comes down to personal preference or 10-bit or A.I. with a big screen kind of stuff.
I think both cameras are great. I'm sticking with DJI since I already have it and I'm happy with it. I think it comes down to whichever is readily available to you
Thanks for taking the time to do the comparison video, I think I can skip all the other's that YT suggests I may want to watch, I honestly can't see anyone having anything else to show me in a DJI Action 5 vs an Ace Pro 2 video. Well done, you've saved me hours. I'm just a family bloke who makes holiday video's (irritates the wife and kids) with an Iphone 13mini and an Action 3 that I attach to my bike (less often than I should), so I'm not bobbed about DLog M, LUTs, Colour Grading, 8-bit, 10-bit and the rest... Might just give the Ace 2 a try or do I splash my cash on an iPhone 16 Pro. Choices... choices... 🙏
I find the many examples very good to show what both cameras can handle. Regularly small differences, but still I see an unmentioned difference, the Ace pro 2 continuously has a light fisheye effect always visible at doors, walls etc. and in my opinion there is always a slightly stronger red cast visible. I find the Action 5 pro more neutral. It will be a difficult choice, especially since I also find the 8K setting a big plus, especially when using zoom. Thanks for the very extensive explanation, clear and without technical whining.
idk, people admit ace pro 2 is better than osmo action 5, I think insta360 has done the best in low light, stabilization, dynamic range, zoom. Action cameras don't need color grading. just record, edit a little footage, and post. If the Ace Pro 2 has 10bit specifications, how devastating will the Osmo Action 5 be. i have sony zv e10, yup 8 bit, but my footage is better when i want to do something. thank you for the best review comparation, Philip. you are the best ! keep doing🔥
This is probably the best comparison video i've seen for these action cams. Thanks so much I now don't need to watch anymore of them! Great video man perfect comparison
Wow that mic upgrade in the AP2 compared to the AP1 is really good. Unfortunately the dji mic connected over bluetooth is still awfull. Thanks for the comparison, very well done! Although I would love to hear your opinion on what is shown, or maybe summarize it at the end.
YES! Best video I’ve seen yet comparing these two cameras, thankyou!! I think I will go with the dji5 pro, I love some of the shots on the ace but I don’t see myself using the flip screen ever and the internal storage on the pro5 will definitely come in handy one day when I’ve filmed too much
The internal storage on the Action 5 Pro is awesome, I really love it, I hope all action cameras will have that in the future. As for the flip screen, I can say after using it on the Ace Pro 1, and now the improved version on the Ace Pro 2 with a super high quality screen, it is the best thing since sliced bread, it's hard for me to live without it now haha!
So far this is the best review I've been watching comparing these both amazing action cam. Honestly, I like DJI Action 5 pro but Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is really good in terms of low light and the big advantage is the flip screen.
Cześć! Thanks for the video! Any reason you had the HDR off on the Action at the intro? I feel HDR mode on both are very different end results with the perceived sharpness. Can't wait to be back to Poland for work!
Czesc! Well, I made a point to show these in as many different situations as possible, and to be honest I prefer the look of the Ace Pro 2 with HDR off, and I wish I could turn that damn HDR off on the Action 5 Pro too so it looked more natural.
Thank you for probably the BEST comparison video I've seen so far. You are also probably the first vlogger I've seen that is NOT a hater/fanboy of dji (there's a bunch of them, you KNOW who you are 😂). What I got from this video is that BOTH cameras are fantastic and you won't go wrong with either one. Personally, I love the front facing camera of my dji osmo action 5 pro! I ordered the ace pro2 this morning and, based on your video, I "may" send it back and just stay with the ace pro1 for now because it is also still an awesome camera as well. Thx again!
Well, I work with Insta360, DJI and GoPro, so I'm level headed when I make videos like this, and I want YOU guys to decide what YOU prefer, as this is all really down to preference. Every person has different needs when it comes to cameras. If I had to choose between the Ace Pro 1 and Ace Pro 2, I would choose the Ace Pro 2, the low light is much better, the screen quality is much higher, audio sounds better, it's generally much improved along with close focus which drove a lot of people crazy. Thanks for the kind words, that means a lot to me!
The video out from DJI OA5 looked more natural in the eyes. Ace Pro 2 still can't shake off that super digital look. Surprised to see how OA5 holds up to Ace Pro 2 in low light situation. Thank you for the comparison! 🙏
Thanks for the comparison, at first glance, after checking out a few minutes of your this video, I’m leaning toward getting the DJI Action 5. Its color balance looks more pleasant, whereas the Insta360 action cam seems to oversharpen the colors and tones.
It's good we have the option to lower sharpness on the Ace Pro 2, so if I ever do feel it's a tad sharp I can always just drop the sharpness. I feel they're pretty similar though in sharpness, as for tones, the DJI goes cool, the Insta360 goes warm.
Great review! First video of yours that I see. Subscribed! Other than during your audio tests, how did you record the audio for the rest of a video? The 1 place I see the Action 5 Pro winning is its native connection to the DJI Mic 2. Overall though, the Ace Pro 2 is the clear winner!
Thank You! It's all Ace Pro 2 audio except where I make note otherwise. The DJI Mic 2 being native sounds better on the Action 5 Pro, until you use the usb-c port, then they both sound the same. Welcome to the channel in that case!
@@PhillipSkraba I suspected it might all be Ace Pro 2 audio, but wasn't sure. I think it's worth pointing that out in a pinned comment or in your description since the audio sounds great!
@@PhillipSkraba bwahaha I totally did not think that 😂 I was thinking it was more of the bright LEDs 😅 That makes way more sense then. I retract my uneducated statement. 🤙🏾
@ohanareviews in Poland we have mainly nice warm lights. I know in the UK it’s all mostly cool leds now which really isn’t good for our mentality, I way prefer the warmer glow of the orange lights at night.
Well, both were straight out of camera all throughout this video, so that's really for you to decide, I gave you guys the raw footage, this isn't a video about my opinion.
Thanks! Funnily enough, not that anyone would ever be able to tell the difference, it doesn't, it's rolling on 8-bit, whereas the Action 5 Pro was on 10-bit, can you see the difference in my video?
Was waiting for your video more than any other. Was hoping for the run with the red building in the background. Love the consistency in your videos. Great test. If you HAD to pick up one of these for a full day shooting (day and night) which would you pick?
Thank You! That run is coming. It's actually uploaded and ready to drop, just finished the thumbnail. haha, you're asking me questions that are impossible for me to answer. For low light, I have noticed the Insta360 has a lot less jitters, but it's using A.I. tech, so it's got a leg forward over the Action 5 Pro. I'll drop my low light video soon.
The Ace is slightly wider angle view, but with considerable image distortion towards the edges which is immediately noticeable. Bluetooth audio connection is always limited to fairly short range and objects blocking signal.
That's because I use DeWarp, if I stick it in Linear which is basically the same fov, all distortion disappears. Yes, bluetooth on both is pretty limited, but works if you need it to.
Which do you prefer? Im a full time single dad with a 3 year old son so were pretty active. I have the action 4 but want to upgrade for better low light but dont know which one to get. In a way I like the pause function the ace pro 2 has. Help me decide lol! btw love the videos.
for your back, ace pro. being able to lower the camara, flip the screen and know the little one is on frame is footage saver xD. plus children would treat the dji mics badly. i would know
Thanks for the video, bro. Video on Ace is sharper, better in the night, and has better colors. Action, though, works better with HDR and has softer image, sometimes more pleasure to watch
It looks as though there's some noticeable flickering in parts of the Ace Pro 2 video, (at 6:25 in the trees for example). Is this present in your own footage, or is it from youtube's compression?
The Action 5 Pro looks more natural. The Ace is too contrast and they brighten the image too. So action 5 pro still far better. I have the action 5 pro. Love it.
The Ace Pro 2 brightens the image sometimes as it has face tracking exposure, which is absolutely fantastic, meaning your face it always well exposed, you can of course turn this off and use matrix metering like the Action 5 Pro.
06:02 or 06:05 baby warm hat, wherever I stop the video, Dji 5 has better focus. When will there be a good comparison with Dji 5 on the latest firmware?)
@@PhillipSkraba I also noticed that sometimes Acepro2 looks to miss focus or soft (not only in your review but also in other reviews). From other reviews, I also noticed when the sharpness setting is set at low, it seems too soft. For this camera, the medium setting might look better. Did you notice a difference between these two sharpness settings?
This dji footage is on the latest firmware update with the high bitrate? Regarding 10bit, your computer and software can tell the difference between 8 and 10bit for which it was designed for, so 10bit absolutely matters for post work
This footage is with standard bitrate from the DJI Action 5 Pro. IF you want a comparison with standard and high bitrate footage you can see it here - th-cam.com/video/HcbjnR9EMCU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xkJt3f53Ftq0_Ge4 That should give you a good idea of what difference standard and high have.
Thanks for the comprehensive review of the two action cameras. Do you know which action camera (Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 or DJI Action 5) is compatible with DJI mic (not DJI mic 2)….I’m referring to the first generation DJI mic. Thanks!
The Mic 2 works wirelessly on the Ace Pro 2 too. 8K, it's the same sensor as the DJI, Insta360 just open up 8K so you can use it if you so wish, I personally never use it, they are both good, I agree.
I love this release of the Ace Pro 2. Tempted to get it especially for the enhanced PureVideo as I already own the AP1. What i don't understand however get is the number of folks that really just want to rail against another brand. I get it you love your camera and the features it has. It works in your workflow. The 8-bit vs 10-bit argument is getting tiring and quite frankly sad at this point. If 10-bit is so important to you, stick to GoPro or DJI and save the rest of us from hearing that argument all the time. For people like me who don't want to spend hours color grading footage are quite happy with the stuff that come out of the camera, save the minor tweaks, the AP1 and AP2 is absolutely ideal. The AP5 has strengths over the AP2 and vice versa. Use what works for you and your personal workflow. The brand bashing is just childish...
that's what I've been saying. this whole 8-bit vs 10-bit drama has been overblown out of proportion. We never had 10 bit until GP11 and OA3. so idk why it's such a big deal now when it wasn't before the 11th gen gopro. sure it gives more flexibility in editing, but not everyone is gonna edit their videos. Like I keep saying there is no PERFECT CAMERA, just a perfect camera for what you want. I wanted the straighter lines and low light capabilities of the AP2 so I went for it. but I'm not saying it's the perfect camera, there are merits of the action 5 pro that I liked better, but sadly, you can't have them all in 1 camera. so you just pick your poison and be happy with it. Philip said it when he first reviewed the Ace Pro. It's great for vlogging, and that's what I think too. It's a vlogger's action cam. Idk why people gotta make others feel bad for buying what they want to justify their purchase. LOL.
Thanks for sharing! I vote Insta360 AcePro 2 with a flip screen and awesome image quality. It can capture better low-light shots, cloud details, sunlight, and nice street lighting.
Just a one question: this comparison you did on OA5 before latest firmware update with low bit rate? I guess yes. Would be fine to see short comparison with low light on high bitrate.
That video is already uploaded with both on their latest firmware, it'll drop tomorrow. The difference between standard and high bitrate you can view in my last video, it's won't blow you away.
@@PhillipSkraba Yes, I saw that video before and after update (I got myself OA5). But i mean how is big or small difference between OA5 high bitrate and Pro2 in low light. I guess not too big. Ok I'll wait your video tomorrow. Thanks Phill 👍
Ace pro 2 is definitely a winner on features, but since Im on a budget and into more of value. I'd probably go for action 5 adventure combo and I heard about the 10 bit update soon. Overall great great comparison video
The high bitrate update is already out, you can watch it on my channel, and when you do, let me know if you see a visible difference. It's a great camera, but I use it in standard bitrate to save space as the difference between standard and high is non-existent. The Ace Pro 2 does have a lot of fun features, that's true.
Nice! 👌🏼 It’s pretty safe to say they are both kicking the poo out of GoPro currently. GoPro may have become a bit too content with previously owning it for so long maybe!
I think they did become a little too comfortable with being the household name in the action camera world. Hopefully they bounce back and drop the Max 2.0 and a Hero 14 with low light capabilities.
Nice cameras close to each other. But on Ace Pro 2 HDR can be turned off which is great! I like more when there's no hdr. I would buy any of them if i don't already have Action 4, so gonna stick with it till the next generation i guess) Nice video comparison in different conditions, so people can figure out what to choose.
As an Action 5 owner, I have to admit that the Ace 2 simply looks better. The Action 5 often appears overly HDR, which takes away from its natural look. In bright daylight, I much prefer the image quality of my GoPro 10 over the Action 5. DJI could improve the experience by adding more color modes to choose from in normal shooting, like vibrant or warm, and providing an option to disable HDR in standard mode.
I really like the DJI Action 5 Pro, I think it's great, but it would be even better if it had the option to turn off HDR, yes. I think that's a problem, especially as they've marketed it as a 13.5 stop dynamic range camera, so I doubt they'll want to backtrack on that by removing HDR. They could also add face tracking for exposure like the Insta360, and the option to turn it off like the Insta360, but we'll see. Both great cameras, but I also feel the Ace Pro 2 has the edge and it feels a little nicer to look at, especially straight out of camera.
Great and detailed review, I'll add my takes about what I'm paing atention in some shots. 5:28 "lets talk about the zoom" - In this intro, it seems that in rotating shots the AP2 does deliver a more pleasing image. Maybe its me but most digital cameras burn my eyes when we turn at certain speed and A5P fail for me in this one. 6:32 AP2 fail in dealing with green leafs. 7:34 This is interesting, as the begining your skin looks soft in A5P but not in AP2 (2:31). Here is the oposite, even your beard is thinner. 10:03 Walking A5P looks better, but running, AP2 wins. I believe we are getting to a point where maybe it would be good to have a "eye perception" version in dark light, for example, the night mode in Osmo Pocket 3 the image overall has more light than my eyes can see. 10:36 in this turn with very low light, the A5P did a better job than the AP2. 11:40 A5P hate turns when the light is good :( 15:35 AP2 thinks you are the Gasper the friendly ghost.
Thanks for not including the GP13 in this test. It would have been a waste of real estate on my monitor and made the comparison between these two a lot harder to see. GP is not a good low light camera, we already know it. I think OA5 wins this test in my eyes, I was waiting for insta to release this so I can decide which one I get. Thanks a lot.
The GoPro Hero 13 does a great job during the daytime, but in low light, yes, it can drop out of the race. This is for you guys to decide what's best for you, both have pros and cons, but are as you can see in the image, very, very similar, so it comes down to what you prefer.
For me, it's going to come down to which one makes my face look the most natural. I'm 50 and I have freckles so the oversharpening can be harsh. In most scenes in your video, the Action 5 looked more natural, even with HDR off on the Ace Pro 2. But, audio straight out of camera is excellent on the Ace Pro 2. I wouldn't even need to use the DJI Mic 2's. I'm going to have to watch more. If the Ace Pro 2 won't make me look horrible, I think it's the one.
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 audio is excellent, and thanks to the wind muff it works so well in all conditions. As for the face, well, I'm 43, and I like that the Ace Pro 2 has face tracking exposure, so it keeps my face nicely lit at all times so I look like I'm at least 41!
I took a risk and ordered ace2pro just at the same minute it was released.....however it looks , at the swimming pool and when u were running with your friend in the dark, that dji 5 was slighty better....my impression only....pozdrófka panie Filipie
Trust me, no risk at all. The camera is fantastic. In the pool I have underwater mode on in a lot of places, meaning that above water it could look distorted, you can turn this off, of course. Are you sure about the running, to my eye, the Action 5 Pro had way more jitter than the Ace Pro 2, but who, except for me, runs at night? Dziekuje, rownierz pozdrawiam!
I think Insta360 told people not to compare LOG profiles, you are the only one so far (and I've watched about 10 reviews) that have shown it. DLog is superior to ILog IMO. For me the 10 bit DLog and integrated Mic 2 (X2) puts the DJI over the edge. I think insta360 looks better in the standard profile and I love the ability to turn off HDR on the insta, but I film in DLog so it doesn't really matter to me.
I can tell you honestly that Insta360 did not say anything of the sort, and if they did say that, I would have specially compared log profiles 😂 That's the type of creator I am. I never film log on action cameras, I find it to be a total waste of my time, it just slows me down and looks basically the same as if I did nothing the majority of the time. That being said I do feel Insta360 need to work on their log profile, and tone it down a little and soften it up so there is 0% processing going on, I think the more advanced customer will appreciate that.
@@PhillipSkraba You do a good job at making these videos, I use DLog mainly just so all my footage looks the same across the board (P3, Air3, A4/5). The last video I did I used the standard color profile on the A5P, because I didn't use any of the other cameras. Overall for my use (small time YT creator) either the AP2 or the A2P would do great. I just wish they would stop copying each others naming schemes, it gets confusing, lol.
I do find that my D-Log M from my Mini 4 Pro and my Air 3S are quite different, but maybe that's just me. I love DJI products, and I'm a fan of Insta360 too, I do however try to use them all in standard profiles unless I'm filming something a little more ambitious, I just don't like to waste time. Yes, both are starting to have similar name schemes lol!
Awesome camera and review! I still stay with Action 5 Pro due to way better scuba diving options. I trust to Action 5 Pro, because I tested it in the different harsh conditions.
@@PhillipSkraba action 5 pro has a wonderful colour correction and a special scuba diving mode, when the main button gets locked to avoid accidental damage. Maybe I need to try take Ace Pro 2 to the depth.
@@SupersonicTraveller You really should! The Ace Pro 2 when in underwater mode also goes into lock mode to avoid ruining your shot, as well as using a more natural fov to counter for underwater distortion.
@@SupersonicTraveller They both feel like you can throw them around and not much will happen. Mind you I've cracked screens on my GoPros and those things are almost indestructible.
If the Insta360 had 10-bit, nah, actually I don't think that would make much difference. I think the DJI is great, I just don't get the trumpet flares, it's a really odd design.
The flares light sources create on the DJI, they look like elongated trumpets, it's quite annoying at points. I don't understand why the DJI lens is designed like a nipple, no.
@@PhillipSkraba Oh I see. What's keeping me from changing to Insta360 is the front screen, internal storage, price, smaller size, and the native DJI mic support.
Appreciate the recommendation. I’m holding out for more reviews on the Ace Pro 2. Looks like Insta360 stepped up with this upgrade, with better features, lighter design, plus improvements in both the hardware and firmware. Leaning towards the Ace Pro 2 now.

Dzieki!
Best camera for daytime motocross action videos?Straight upload to TH-cam- minimal fuss for someone with time constraints. Of the 3? My GoPro 7 has always been glitchy( better now?)- stops for no reason- batteries are quickly drained. Chin mount helmet. Thanks.
A5P shows fog instead of clouds. This is a very serious drawback of A5P. I360AP2 has not very natural image contrast, but the picture looks more pleasant for eyes.
The dull clouds are the effect of the hdr going into over-drive, hopefully we get an update where we can turn that off, but I'm sceptical if that ever happens.
Was waiting for Ace Pro 2 to see if it's significant upgrade over Action 5 Pro, but not impressed. Personally, things I don't like: the size, the flip screen and price. Action 5 would be better for me, it's smaller, no need flip screen when front facing, it's around 80 bucks cheaper here, bonus internal storage.
I personally LOVE the flip screen, it makes filming myself and anything lower than my waist so comfortable! The size is basically the same, it's not like you're putting an Arri in your pocket. As for the price, it all depends on what your needs are and what you can afford.
I seem to generally prefer the Ace Pro 2 image. Yes, low light is important to me. Possibly more than to an average user. It would be nice to see what happens to the image in PureVideo in a situation when you start in a low light environment and enter a bright light one.
@@PhillipSkraba That's not bad but I would prefer natural light rather than artificial light of the stable. I am a 360 action cam guy for most of the time but I also make many videos that start in the twilight before the dawn and carry on continuously as the sun is rising above the horizon (yes, I'm an insomniac). The 360 cameras are really bad for the low light part of those videos though. Ideally, I would like the camera to recognize that the PureVideo isn't the optimal settings for the light conditions and switch automatically to the daylight mode. Am I asking for too much LOL? What would be your recommendation for the camera setting for that kind of situation? Just the regular daylight mode or the PureVideo? Anyway, I just ordered the Ace Pro 2.
@@seahog32 You'll love the Ace Pro 2, such a great camera. I just dropped a video today on a 360 camera that is quite bright at night for a 360 camera.
11:52 the Action Pro 5 have "flickering" on lights on the roof. I saw that on many videos that lights are always "flickering"... Is there any fix for that yet? 16:34 i noticed that lens flare issue on the Action 5 Pro in other videos. Could there be a Firmware Update to fix that, or would we need another lens objective to fix that?
The Action 5 Pro doesn't have A.I. in its low light mode, so the lights will jitter, even with stabilisation turned to Sports. I think the DJI flare trumpets are here to stay, there isn't much we can do about that.
The only thing i don't like about the action 5 in every video i have been watching, the clouds look real washed out with lack of details on the sky. The ace pro, the 2 and the action 4 do better on that and i wonder why? By the way love your channel great job👍
Ace Pro 2 has this eye-confortable and natural color profile, which I really like. The overall image quality looks just fantastic, incrediable for such a small camera.
La Insta360 Ace Pro es clarísima ganadora!! Y no importa el precio, si lo que se busca calidad......y eso que trabaja a solo 8 bits. Y de noche es lo mas grandioso que hay
@trainspoted if you had said a 200-600 with a 2x teleconverter this would have been a different conversation. That being said, for on a bike I actually prefer the Ace Pro as I can pull the screen up to 90 degrees and see what I’m shooting.
Some people still claim there are more details on the ace pro 2. But look at 11:58 , I can see each strand of grey on the action 5. But on the ace pro 2, I see a patch. Am I going crazy?
I just have the Action 5 since two weeks. It is my first action cam. What I really miss is to pause a recording and continue it. It is so frustration and complicated to cut one video after a day. Is this possible with the Ace Pro 2?
Every time I watch videos like this, I feel like I'm struggling to see any difference. But, The clouds in that opening shot! It's like two different times of day.
Thanks for the video. Question at 8:37 low light street, which camera gives the best accurate color? The ace pro 2 looks a bit more yellow. The action5 more white. So which camera shows the truth and is real?
The lamps were yellow, the Ace Pro 2 was much closer to the real colour. It's odd, sometimes the Action 5 Pro would just make everything very cool. Both were on auto everything throughout this whole video.
My last video is on that, if you can see a difference between standard and high, you have better eyes than all of us. I think it's hard to see a difference on these tiny cameras, the standard on the Action 5 Pro is already excellent, so I think DJI really only added high to stop all the moaners moaning.
@@PhillipSkraba yeah at the end of the day it’s action cameras , the things they are capable of is already insane. The internal on the ace pro does sound really good tho.
Ok, but what about shaking in the dark?
@@AdamHreszczyk That is something both of them have, but in my experience the Ace Pro 1 and the Ace Pro 2 have a lot less as A.I. counter the jitter effects.
Really nice video. The only thing I liked better on the ace was the clouds. The nighttime was a toss up. It looks better hands down on the action 5 pro, BUT you can see more in the ace. So it depends on if seeing more is more important to overall image quality. I feel like the action 5 would see the same if you fiddled with the contrast settings. That seems like all they did on the ace pro.
Phillip Skraba, does the Rode Wireless Pro mic system work on the DJI Action 5 do you know?
I guess this video provides the most accurate and most information that people might want to know, along with actual tests. Thanks a lot. It helps me decide which device to buy.
You're welcome, I was hoping it would help people make a choice based on their preferences.
in many years this is probably the only useful review of an action cam i've ever sees, just because of the length and the simple, coherent way it's made. kudos
Thank You so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The built in memory is absolutely awesome. I love that so much! If it was 128GB I would love it more, but maybe next time!
9:25 but you have those ugly cone shaped lens flare on the action 5 pro.
@@MelvinDlaCruz DJI Action 5 Pro is 25% cheaper than Insta360 Ace Pro 2.
@@krzysztofbartnikFair enough but I am a vlogger and Ace Pro 2 tops for me.
@@PhillipSkrabayes!!! I wish more reviewers thought this way. Carry on. Cheers, my friend.
More are coming, thanks!
Thanks a lot for putting these together!!
hahahahahaha Polish soup!! You made my day.
same here. i like the colors better on the A5 a little warmer
No one dares to talk about this camera's overheating and battery life issues; they deliberately avoid it. The battery life in 4K30 night mode might be only 30min from other test.

@@RocaTT1456hey mate, you mean on a5 or acepro2?
worth to mention this comparison done before the oa5 update. footage captured with standard bitrate. With higher bitrate, the winner will be much clearer. Filesize would suck tho haha. and Atleast for now, ace pro 2 will have their own update. Great review as always. But I am also curious about photography on this thing which most reviewers left out.

Never seen an 8k shot before, Ace pro 2 did impress me a lot. For small action cameras like this, the image quality is beyond my imagination. Cool tech.
It's pretty cool, huh.
I think it comes down to whichever is readily available to you
Absolutely, both great cameras, hard to go wrong with either!
Choices... choices... 🙏
Kaliteli içerik için teşekkürler. Kullanabileceğimiz neredeyse her alanda denediğiniz için ekstra teşekkürler.
Thank You!
I find the many examples very good to show what both cameras can handle. Regularly small differences, but still I see an unmentioned difference,
the Ace pro 2 continuously has a light fisheye effect always visible at doors, walls etc. and in my opinion there is always a slightly stronger red cast visible.

@@PhillipSkraba not long after I wrote this I changed my mind and want the ace pro 2 now! Will wait til Black Friday to decide :)

The low light comparison will no doubt drop today, thanks!
@@PhillipSkraba Thank you, good to know there's a sharpness adjustment on the Ace Pro 2, I agree that DJI is cooler, Insta360 is warmer.

It looks as though there's some noticeable flickering in parts of the Ace Pro 2 video, (at 6:25 in the trees for example). Is this present in your own footage, or is it from youtube's compression?

That should give you a good idea of what difference standard and high have.
Thanks for the comprehensive review of the two action cameras. Do you know which action camera (Insta 360 Ace Pro 2 or DJI Action 5) is compatible with DJI mic (not DJI mic 2)….I’m referring to the first generation DJI mic. Thanks!
Thanks! Both are compatible with the Mic 1.
I think they’re both pretty good. I’m still leaning DJI since it’s cheaper and I don’t see myself using 8K and own the DJI Mic2 already
Fansboys think the companys will give them a camera for their support.
@@PierPeterVinylSound Yeah... it is getting exhausting at this point...
that's what I've been saying. this whole 8-bit vs 10-bit drama has been overblown out of proportion.
The Insta360 Ace Pro 2 is good a very good choice, I've really been loving it over the last couple of months.
The flamingos got you a new follower. Thanks
haha, those flamingos! Thanks, and welcome to the channel.
It's not massive, but there are subtle differences that'll help you guys make a choice.
Thanks !!
You're welcome, thanks!
I wish they added another camera, so it would be possible to take front and back video simultaneously
I think they have that, it's called the X4.
*Was your dji mic 2s on their latest firmware when you recorded this video?*
Yes, it was on the latest firmware for the audio tests.
Face priority exposure for in car sounds amazing
It does work wonders!
wonderful report and comparison! thank you😁👍
Thank You so much!
@@PhillipSkraba Oh, thanks, I didnt get wind of that. I'll check it out.. still subbing
Welcome to the channel in that case!
All my videos on youtube shot by iphone but i like insta360 ace pro 2
A lot of people start with the iPhone, and I like the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, too.
@@PhillipSkraba I can probably call them GoPoo for a little while longer until they drop a new improved log. 😅
Nice cameras close to each other. But on Ace Pro 2 HDR can be turned off which is great! I like more when there's no hdr. I would buy any of them if i don't already have Action 4, so gonna stick with it till the next generation i guess)
Nice video comparison in different conditions, so people can figure out what to choose.
I really with DJI update their Action 5 Pro so we can turn off HDR, that would be great. Thank You!
11:40 A5P hate turns when the light is good :(
15:35 AP2 thinks you are the Gasper the friendly ghost.
haha, it's crazy isn't it. They are both great tools and at the end of the day, it comes down to your personal preference.
Can you transfer files directly from internal memory to an SD card in the camera?
I'm already used to memory cards, so the built-in storage thing isn't a deal-breaker for me.
Yeah, I have about 30 of them myself, so it's not a big deal, but it's a nice feature.
best video ever which is real ACTION 5 pro is for me and subscribed thanks
Thanks!
@@PhillipSkraba 😂😂😂
@@PhillipSkraba, more like 34! You got to get your math right. Nice video as always!
The new king of action camera is Insta360 and DJI . And i hope next generation of Ace pro 3 must be a wireless charger and built-in Memory
Add 10-bit Log for all the crazies, a tiny front screen + the already great flip screen, and you've got yourself the perfect camera.
Dziekuje, rownierz pozdrawiam!
dało by radę kilka-kilkanaście sekund surówek z obu kamer gdzieś przez chmurę? ;) najlepiej w bardzo dobrym i dość słabym oświetleniu :)
Phil we need some more drone videos
Oh believe me, those are in the works. I'm coming back to drones, I missed those things!
Awesome camera and review! I still stay with Action 5 Pro due to way better scuba diving options. I trust to Action 5 Pro, because I tested it in the different harsh conditions.
Thanks! Both are pretty cool underwater, the Action 5 Pro has its underwater meter whereas the Ace Pro 2 has underwater mode.
@@PhillipSkraba oh, that’s great! How robust/tough does it feel in hands in comparison to action 5 pro?
@@SupersonicTraveller They both feel like you can throw them around and not much will happen. Mind you I've cracked screens on my GoPros and those things are almost indestructible.
If the DJI had the same low light performance, it would be the ULTIMATE camera.
If the Insta360 had 10-bit, nah, actually I don't think that would make much difference. I think the DJI is great, I just don't get the trumpet flares, it's a really odd design.
@@PhillipSkraba Trumpet flares? What do you mean? You don't like the DJI design?
The flares light sources create on the DJI, they look like elongated trumpets, it's quite annoying at points. I don't understand why the DJI lens is designed like a nipple, no.
@@PhillipSkraba Oh I see. What's keeping me from changing to Insta360 is the front screen, internal storage, price, smaller size, and the native DJI mic support.
Fantastic job. Thanks!
Thank You!
me gusta más DJI por imagen más natural, aunque pierda algo de definicion en algunas situaciones. Ambas hace un trabajo genial.
Both do, yes.
Thanks.
No fuss, clean out of camera, good all day, the Ace Pro 2, it'll get that image looking good straight out of camera and ready to drop.
@@PhillipSkraba thank you
A5P shows fog instead of clouds.
You can see that when I enter the horse stables.
So, would the original mic 1 that I sold on have worked with the 5 pro /AP2 ?
It will, via usb-c.
The only thing i don't like about the action 5 in every video i have been watching, the clouds look real washed out with lack of details on the sky. The ace pro, the 2 and the action 4 do better on that and i wonder why? By the way love your channel great job👍
Yes, that’s down the HDR, it’s a feature you can’t turn off on the Action 5 Pro, which is a shame.
Ace Pro 2 has this eye-confortable and natural color profile, which I really like. The overall image quality looks just fantastic, incrediable for such a small camera.
It does look good, I agree!
@PhillipSkraba Does Ultra Wide pov works in PureView / Night Mode / at Night?
In PureVideo on the Ace Pro 2 you have ActionView, MegaView, UltraWide, DeWarp and Linear. Insta360 have us ALL the pov's in their low light mode.
Im gonna grab the Ace Pro 2 asap. I really like how they constanlty update my X4 unlike gopro
The Ace Pro 2 is excellent, you'll love it, I certainly do.
Lets see.. 😊
Get some popcorn, it's going to be a long one.
Good review and Action 5 pro wins again because of lighter weight
I'm quite strong, so as you saw I could carry both at the same time.
La Insta360 Ace Pro es clarísima ganadora!! Y no importa el precio, si lo que se busca calidad......y eso que trabaja a solo 8 bits. Y de noche es lo mas grandioso que hay
I agree, it does a good job!
OMG it's so big. next generation will be bigger than ZV line
Big? If this is what you guys call big, the girls will have the last laugh.
@@PhillipSkraba hah) for girls I have a proper full frame and 70-200 caliber) but for mounting on a bike or on a helmet this size is a problem already
I’d say that’s the Action 5 Pro HDR working hard to make my beard look grey!! That thing is trying its best to make me look older 😂 Damn it!
@@PhillipSkraba omg.. I am getting the ace. I want to look younger
To me the Ace Pro 2 is a bit warmer and a bit sharper, whilst the Action 5 has cooler tones. Beside this, very very comparable.
Exactly my thoughts, yes.
I just have the Action 5 since two weeks. It is my first action cam. What I really miss is to pause a recording and continue it. It is so frustration and complicated to cut one video after a day. Is this possible with the Ace Pro 2?
Yes, it is possible with the Ace Pro 2.
Image sharpneness & Low light performance i hand it to the Insta.. underwater def the Dji... Am in a DILEMMA! Which one should i get? 😢
It's a hard nut to crack, huh.
Every time I watch videos like this, I feel like I'm struggling to see any difference.
But, The clouds in that opening shot! It's like two different times of day.
There are subtle differences depending on how each one exposes a scene, but a lot of the time, you're right, they are very similar.
well done, good job! thxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you!
@@PhillipSkraba thank you my friend
@@WiljanWiljan No, thank You!
I’m guessing this was before the most recent action 5 pro firmware update?
Most of it, yes. That firmware really didn't change much though, so it's not something to go by.
@@PhillipSkraba yeah I saw they updated night mode and the whole bit rate thingy. Great vid !
