Well done guys, at last a car with one of these engines that can be slung around, really impressive. Are you using a limited slip diff, Detroit locker or block drive in the back?
* Hey You Guys Don't Go Breaking It Now !!! 👊🤣👍 Been following ya since the start. Glad to see a new posting. You guys need a tire sponsor ! Cheers 🍺🤛😎👍
(Some) people need to understand that it is that mid-range RPM what makes this kind of large displacement engines make music, not the higher RPM’s. …ever heard a Rolls-Royce Merlin powered aircraft doing a magneto check, while looking straingt into the exhaust?… You won’t get that result with this car just revving it, I guess.
It sounds so unique! A deep bass rumble! Very cool sounding, like nothing else. It sounds like it’s barely making any boost still, but can still spin the wheels a little over idle 😂 Glad you got the issues sorted out. I heard you talk of the Nurburgring - will Misha be taking it round next summer? 😉
@@TheMeteorInterceptorhe will love that - a super unique car! He’s driven basically every car imaginable round there but definitely not this. Better have some good brakes for it though, especially with the weight. He always complains about brakes 😂
This is the embodiment of the phrase "There's no replacement for displacement". 400 rpm idle, burnouts with less than 2000 rpm. And on top of that ginormous engine are bolted a pair of turbos. Just because. 😁🤘
Out of all the Meteor / Merlin engined cars, your Vic and Charlie's SD1 are the smoothest and quietest I've heard of them all. It looks like you could easily jump in it and go on a road trip, I know Charlie offen does and gets 15mpg out of his Meteor. Can't wait to hear that 3200 rpm fly past when you get a long enough road!
Sounds like a Caterpillar C15 with straight pipes. Charlie of Practical Performance Cars with his Meteor powered Rover SD1 must be your long lost cousin😊
Dude can't you just rev that thing in Neutral ONCE!!?!?! I've been waiting to hear that v12. That's all that's exciting about this project and you can't do it? What's wrong with you
Really cool car guys, you went to a lot of effort to build this beast but in handling terms I have a genuine question. Does the car suffer from understeer when driving quickly, with so much weight at the front end?
The car actually has a weight distribution of 52-48%. We have achieved this by mounting the engine as far back as possible and by using lightweight materials in the front. The dry weight of the car is only 2000kg, which is less than an Audi RS6 Avant. So, no problem at all! 😃👍
With the weight of a small planet over the front axle I’m really impressed with how well controlled the body movement is. I thought it would handle like an Audi, meaning understeer into the scenery but it doesn’t. It actually has front end grip, it turns in. It doesn’t roll like crazy and the rear roll behaviour seems to hatch the front quite well. Lots of intelligence and skill.
The engine is 100% aluminum (used to be in the Spitfire planes), so it only weighs 600kg. That is equal to 1,5 cast iron big block engines. And the car actually has a weight distribution of 52-48%. We have achieved this by mounting the engine as far back as possible and by using lightweight materials in the front. The dry weight of the car is only 2000kg, which is less than an Audi RS6 Avant. So, no problem at all! 😃👍
This is such a sick project so don't take this the wrong way. These engines sound the best under load, the grunt they make then is unmatched. The car is just to light to really push it enough I think. From 4 minutes on you get a bit of it, the dark rumble....
Been watching for years and I have to say the best part about this monstrosity is that its looks almost stock. Just a vic with a hood and a wing. Cant even tell it makes more torque then most people make horsepower! By far the best fever dream creation I've ever seen even after all these years. Who else but the Sweds!
Yes it actually does handle really well. That is due to the weight distribution of 52-48%. We have achieved this by mounting the engine as far back as possible and by using lightweight materials in the front. The dry weight of the car is only 2000kg, which is less than an Audi RS6 Avant. So, no problem at all! 😃👍
The fuel injection and turbos make that engine so responsive, if you have a lot of crankcase venting have a look at the Walker Airsep, they use a centrifuge effect like a Dyson vacuum to separate the oil from the gases and put a vacuum in the crankcase, the oil is returned to the sump and the gases go into the inlet, they are standard equipment on many big diesels.
Nice to see that transmission holding the torque! Once you folks have some consistent quarter mile times, ship this beast off to Hoonigan for a drag race!
You guys should consider making a bonnet (or hood, whichever name you prefer) with a hole where the engine goes above it, to really show off that awesome Meteor
The weight distribution is 48-52%, so better than the original Crown Vic. The total weight is 2100kg, less then an Audi RS6 avant. So no problem at all! 😃
@@TheMeteorInterceptor wow i thought the weight distribution would be a lot worse ! even though the engine is moved so far back i believe it's still 2 to 3 times heavier than the stock engine
So many more questions, What is the engine and fuel? how much does the motor weigh? what RPM is redline? whats the peak horsepower/torque figures and at what RPM? what transmission is in the car?
The engine is a 27 liter (1647 cui) twin-turbo Rolls Royce Meteor V12 that runs on regular pump gas. The engine is in aluminum so it is surprisingly light at around 600 kg. About 1,5 times a regular big block cast iron engine. The max RPM is 3400, and in third gear at max RPM the theoretical topspeed is 445 Km/h. After the engine we have a custom built planetary gear that revs up the RPM in the gearbox 2,77x. So 1000 RPM in the engine = 2770 RPM in the gearbox. We tried to run it on a dyno, but the dyno couldn't handle the high torque and high speed (see video here on our channel). But the goal is 2500hp and 5000Nm at 3400 RPM. Thank you for watching and don't forget to subscribe 😃
