    You can have the exhaust valve open on a cold start. It’s simple. Give power to the car (don’t start the engine). Put everything into sport or sport plus, then depress the gas pedal once. You’ll hear the valve open, now start the engine.

    To be honest i would deactivate the automatic rev match cause i would like to do it myself. Am i the only one?

      Nah the only difference between sport and sport plus for drive train is that there is no rev matching on sport plus this guy has no idea what he's talking about lol

    the gauge is because it shows your oil temperature and not your water temperature. that's why it doesn't go up.

    • @TommyLGarage
      @TommyLGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ardalan Shabestari but it would be nice if it was in the middle. No reason for it to sit at 25% all the time. And of course I HAD to pick something...this car is close to perfect :)

    • @ardalanshabestari3437
      @ardalanshabestari3437 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom Lawrowski haha yes it’s perfect. In my e90 i don’t even a gauge. For somereason bmw thought their clients don’t need to know the temperature of the coolant. That’s like the most important thing of the car

    • @embo2k11
      @embo2k11 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hey Tom, the reason why it is that low is the fact that the oil temps are not regulated by a thermostat and they vary much more then the cooling liquids temps. Especially when you drive it down here in Germany on the autobahn at 160 mph and more, the oil easily heats up to 250°, so in order to not scare people about the actual oil temps at higher loads, the guage is designed like this... :)

    Hey I own a 2018 BMW F80 competition package and
    If you press the start button without starting the car you can put the engine into sports plus or press M2 if it configured to sorts plus and it will open the values then start the car for the nice loud sound.

    • @TommyLGarage
      @TommyLGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ares Díaz That’s true but the whole point is why isn’t there a button that just opens and closes them. Why make that extra step

    I'll answer the pads question. From seeing NASA GTS BMW cars, you can see podium guys run stock brake sizes. And BMW does use smaller pads on large size rotors than other big brake kits. But from history, they are sufficient as long as you don't over brake.

    For me, it really makes sense that the rev matching function is disabled in sport+ mode. Sport+ should make the car as ”real” as possible. No traction control or other systems making driving easier (like the rev matching).

  • @sjakubowski92
    @sjakubowski92 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    1) Get in Car, ignition on, sport plus, foot on brake, start
    2) Tried to set this in your M1 or M2 buttons? If no, can be coded
    3) Only because its a US spec car, EU car has normal Celcius gauge
    4) iDrive controller is placed in most natural position possible so that your wrist rests on the arm rest when using it rather than in the air, like with a mouse on your PC
    5) Under that carpeting is the boot floor and exhaust under that, whats the point of having an uneven load space?
    6) Ceramic Calipers are also far bigger than their pads

  • @stefanocioni2587

    Open the valve with Carly unplug the valve cable and you have always open exhaust valves. Rev match is enabled in all modes with a software update I think. I say this because my 2018 has rev match in all modes

    • @143CAR
      @143CAR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally agree, its not the same (i know i'd choose the manual given the choice). Isn't it also so much better knowing you can do your own heel toe, then having the car do it for you? Same logic isn't it?

    • @TommyLGarage
      @TommyLGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can turn the car on not start it and set the mode to sport plus and then start it with the exhaust valves open.
    Or u can climb under and disconnect the actuators while the actuators are open. Tape off and bag the connectors to keep them clean.
    The car was really engineered for use with a DCT. The manual was an omage to previous gens.
    The trunk, who cares?
    Anyway, like your vids

  • @johanneswiedemann7414
    @johanneswiedemann7414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can start the engine with valves opened. You have to turn you egnishen on without starting the engine and then you select sport plus mode for your throttle responsibility and then hit the gas pedal. This opens the valves and you can now start the engine with valves opened.

    Funny, my M140i also starts in Comfort but it opens the exhaust valve for the first ~30 Seconds. The Sport Plus not rev matching is actually a nice feature because this is for knuckle heads like me that want to rev match manually, just like shifting and keeping it on the road despite hooning attempts.
    Your thirds complaint: because race track. Be glad you have an oil temp gage because this has become exclusive for M cars.

  • @Boosted30v
    @Boosted30v 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    LOL, the reason why there is no auto rev match for sport plus is because it's NOT supposed to be cruise and it's supposed to be the "sportiest" most engaging drive mode. You're entitled to your opinion, but I'd imagine most people agree with how sport plus is architected.

    • @TommyLGarage
      @TommyLGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very fair statement and I do not disagree. I just wish there was a button that allowed me to turn it on and off in any mode. I would love to hear the perfect rev matches in the loudest exhaust setting that’s all. Anyways, thanks for watching, I appreciate it

      First, You have to ensure sport plus is a preset in either the M1 or m2 button. Then you want to turn on the battery of the car. While the battery is on you want to enable the M1 or m2 mode whichever you have as sport plus and then press the gas to open the valves. JunHeng23 Okay let me correct myself. Over run lasts for 4 seconds instead of 3 seconds. Pops are very similar. Again I only drive in Sports+ anyways but just saying over all loudness is the same. No difference in exhaust flap opening.

    This is something I heard about manufacturers intentionally using smaller brake pads on performance cars or on any car for that matter.
    As you wear out the pads and rotors, the rotors will only wear in the center where the pads touch creating a ridge on the outer rim making uneven wear. So when the time comes to change the pads, you'll need to change the rotors as well as the surface has been worned unevenly.

    Errr sport + is meant for the car to be driven to the limit - meaning you the human has to do everything (including rev match) - this is tantamount to complaining that a sports car doesn't have adequate cup holders -_- Also - temp difference of your dash is for oil not radiator fluid, viscosity difference means the needle won't neccesarily be in the middle...

    Test drove brand new 18 M3 comp manual. Sounds like digital garbage, I mean atrociously bad. Brakes are like a digital on off button, no granularity. And the engine feels like a diesel. Falls on it's face after 5k, stops pulling. Bought an RCF. Sounds amazing, brakes amazing, and pulls like a freight train to redline. This is coming from x2 E46 M3 owner. The F80 sucks. The M2 much better, but too much of a donkey.
