    Australia’s appetite to explore the great outdoors has helped create a new category of so-called ‘super utes’. These are the best of the breed.
    The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon’s payload of 693kg, towing capacity of 2721kg, and wading depth of 760mm compare to the Ford Ranger Raptor (714kg, 2500kg, 850mm) and the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior (952kg, 3500kg, 600mm).

    Great review again. No doubt that ford knows how to build a great off-road Ute. It’s a shame the gladiator only comes with 32 inch muddies. I believe the US gets 33 inch tyres and with the high clearance fenders, so you can fit 35 inch tyres without a lift(helps the ramp over angle). US gladiator also has the diesel as an option. As I see it, if you want a Ute ready to go, you can’t go past the ranger. If you want something to build, the gladiator has you covered in the after market.

      There is only one true off-road vehicle in Australia, it’s a wrangler rubicon. So I’m not talking tourer, on road comfort or fuel economy. The wrangler has no competition off-road.

    In my book jeep is the best. Solid axels, coil springs with great articulation, lockers, bead lock capable 35s from factory with good gear ratio, decent shocks, great after market support. Reasonable price tag compared to Raptor. Great for overlanding and even better for hard trails. it's an absolute winner. Ford Raptor is good in a stock form, but it's expensive to mod up and even harder to maintain comparing with Jeep JT.

    I feel like Ford are making some good vehicles; the Raptor, Wildtrack, the Everest, the Puma too. Besides the Ranger line, they seem to struggle to get bandwidth in the market. Not really sure why, a marketing issue perhaps.

    I reckon many of us users out here in the real world would think carefully about buying a Ranger XLT or Wildtrak or SR5 and spend some very wise $ and you will have a much better vehicle in nearly every regard for the same $ as these expensive utes. Ford is ripping buyers off with the Raptor at this price point, $20K spend on the above vehicles get handling, barwork, lighting, towbars, better towing, canopy, fuel filters, drawer systems, racks plus the fridge full of beer. I know where my $ have gone, finding a 9000km 2021 SR5 (very fortunate) and spending $20k, what an amazing capable vehicle fully 4WD capable and touring and towing capable. If I did not find the SR5 it would have been a 3.2 Wildtrak or XLT. Plus 10 speed auto and 2.oL Biturbo is unpopular in resale and has 'issues' that seem to be coming evident after 100k+. Ford have wrung the neck out of 2.0L and for 4WDing that aint a happy scenario methinks.

    In value perspective I like Navara better. More payload and towing capability, comes with a metal bumper/bull bar, lifted and bigger tyres all warranted by Nissan. It’s better than doing it all aftermarket.

    • @petegower2031
      @petegower2031 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Navara is an absolute Weapon when towing heavy loads up mountains here in NZ, doesn't even change engine tone.

  • @petegower2031
    @petegower2031 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Not convinced, dash isn't as nice as Nevara (which is better imo) 2.5ton towing capable, which rules it out immediately for me towing a heavy caravan, fussy ten speed box (at last reviewers are acknowledging this)
    Most owners here in NZ ditch rangers before they hit the 100k km mark as transmission failures abound at that point onwards, you only have to look in the car yards here.
    Ford designed the transmission to go for 400k km, but NZ's love of caravanning and boating combined with mountains hammers that down. Fact.
