  • G'day guys, here I am having a go at re-greasing the Linkage Bearings on the DR650. Had a couple of little issues along the way but all ended well. Hope you enjoy :-) Cheers... Mark

    Mark, I think you are bloody fantastic. Because of you, i have bought a new 2017 DR650 S. I can hardly wait to start modding it. The DR is very popular here in Canada as well, but I have found most of the people on youtube that are modding these bikes are all Aussies. Hats off to you.

    Mark, good videos. Thanks! FYI: The bearings with the loose needle rollers are called "full complement" bearings. They are used in very high load applications, as they have a load rating around 25-40% higher than equivalent sized bearings which have a steel cage retaining the needle rollers. In this instance they have also no internal seals to maximize their working width (bearing area). Your other video: 'Rear Suspension Removal' was very helpful, thank you.... Reason being: The order of the swing arm (rearmost) pivot bearing bolt and thrust washers published in both the Clymer and Suzuki manuals, is incorrect in the exploded view of the lever and lever arm (dog bone), . These manuals indicate that the thrust washer goes on the outside of the dog bone, whereas you noted (correctly) when you removed the bolt , that the thrust washer goes between the dog bone and the pivot spacer. This provides additional mechanical protection to the bearing seals, and a flat (ground) surface onto which the pivot spacer can seat (rather than being forced into the aluminium dog bone, and causing the bolt to loose tension as the dog bone wears against the spacer). The sectioned, assembled view of the dog bone, pivot bearing bolt and thrust washers appears correctly in the Reassembling Information sectioned drawing, chapter 5, page 45 of the Suzuki workshop manual.

    I very much appreciate these videos and watching you work through these maintenance tasks as a regular guy. It must take a lot of extra effort to film it. I enjoy your dialogue. I also like how much attention you put into cleaning everything.

    Good job mate , you've inspired me to trade my klx in for a drz and do more cruseing and less hard core bush rideing. At 52yr old I'm sick of coming of and breaking stuff like my color bone. Keep up the good work;)

    For cleaning those bolts up, removing rust and any patina I saw a great tip on Del Boys Garage. He clamped a normal drill into his vice upside down. Clamped in the bolt thread first. Switched it on and with a strip of 240 sandpaper he just applied it around the bolt and it cleaned up a treat. Thanks for sharing

    really bugs me that So often they dont put grease fittings on these things

  • @843292

    Question:
    14:12 you show the clean sleeve. Would it help to put a bit of axle grease in that sleeve when reinserting the bolt to 1) help the movement of the bolt in the sleeve, and 2) help keep out dust or sand that may have causes the initial wear?
    I'm not very mechanically minded so I really appreciate any response from those with more aptitude than I've got for engines and mechanics!

    • @6226superhurricane
      @6226superhurricane 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you would grease the sleeves so the seal is greased. you would also grease the dust seals inside and out.

    I imagine you will also need to slather grease all over all the bolts and bearing surfaces, during re-assembly. ... Seems obvious but might as well mention it.
