Vicki this was an amazing HQ Live! I have learned so much from you and have so many wonderful skill building and design ideas from you! Thank you. I hope that they have you back again ;-)
I really appreciate not only the high level view of what you've done with free motion quilting, but also the level of practical know-how that you shared. Thank you both!
WOW! My head is swimming! So much information! Thank you! I realize ALOT of people have newer machines but I know there are many oldies but goldies out there. I am so glad I can ask questions referring to my HQ 16 and you ladies and techs can help. You never say "That old thing!" Thank you.
Love the advice and Vicki's excitement! I will have a sheet protector and dry erase marker in my purse from here on out. ♥️. Oh and the preview paper for auditioning!
I, too, said that when I retired from public education, I would buy a long arm. So, when I retired at the end of the 2020 school year (and wasn't that a crazy school year to get out), I acquired a gently used HQ Avante and went to the HQ Basic LongArm Retreat in February. It was SO much fun (!) and now I can quilt all the quilt tops I pieced over so many years.
The off-set star quilt was from a book titled Rock Solid-13 Stunning Quilts Made with Kona Cottons. I usually use 12 SPI when I couch and the chenille yarn I used was from Baby Bernatte(sp?). So happy many of you enjoyed the tips I shared that helped me on my quilting journey and I know can help others. Hope I answered all questions. If not I will check back and try to address any unanswered ones! Happy quilting!
I take a picture of the quilt and print it out to use for doodling and potential designs so the clear page protector is a super idea to try various designs.
I loved watching this video and your quilting is beautiful. The cookie cutter or foam shapes idea is so simple and a fantastic way to feel confident making different shapes. I noticed the lime green thread on your machine, I was hoping you were going to stitch something with it. What brand and weight thread is that? Also, what stitch length do you use to couch the chenille yarn down?
There was so much great information, and I don't mean to be critical (I love the helpful videos), but I want to give some constructive feedback. The camera person did not anticipate following what was said. There were many long shots, when it needed to focus on the close-up quilting. Perhaps this person is just learning, but please be aware for next time. Again, I appreciate all Handi Quilter does to help us learn. Thank you.
Love the video. I have HQ 16 what speed do you recommend for a pantograph in manual mode? If I go to 45 or higher I get a lot of shaking and my thread breaks often.
I thought this video was interesting, but it would have been nice to see the different foots up close. You held it up and the camera didn’t zoom in. I’m a beginner, beginner and no nothing about fee motion.
I must say....your camera person is very squirrelly. This was a very hard to follow video because the person doing the camera work was not listening and focusing on what the speaker was trying to show. I got very little out of this due to that distraction and lack of ability to see what she was referring to.
Love the cookie cutter/chalk and chenille couching ideas. Can't wait to use them!! Handiquilter: Your videos are full of inspiration and tips.
Amazing episode! So inspiring. So much talent. Great ideas and explained so well. Thank you.
This was really nice! I enjoyed the variety of ideas shown and felt very inspired! Thanks for sharing all of these great ideas ! 💡
So many great ideas!
I was lucky enough to take a two day handiquilter education event from Vickie, it was wonderful.
Vicki had some fantastic tips!
Glad you think so!

Vicki is a great teacher! Loved her explanations of things, as well as her show and tell quilts.
Thank you, you give me inspiration to try new designs. I sat here and doodled designs whilst watching. 💖
You are so welcome!

I got my long arm last week…and this week bought four Dream Big panels!

We're glad you're loving your Avante'!
Wish I could give this one more than one “thumbs-up”!! Just ordered my Moxie and I cannot WAIT to get started. Thank you!
Have fun!

Great video! Loved the cookie cutter tip. I would LOVE to know the name of the pattern of the quilt on the wall! (The offset star one.)

What brand of chenille yarn did you use and what was the thickness? Great video. Thanks.
I live just north of you in KS.

Really liked the cookie cutter tip.

Great video . Your camera man need to get more of the close up. She was showing spots n he didn't get up close so we didn't get to see it . Thanks
