I loved this! So.... looking at a quilt for days deciding what to quilt is normal! Yay I'm normal lol. Can't wait for the next live. Love to hear about thread too. So helpful thanks.
I love your videos featuring quilters and quilts with different personalities and styles. Plus the interaction between the participants and the chats are also very informative and formative as well.
what a fabulous live! I learned so much from the three of you and loved the easy and relaxed way that you interacted with each other while giving some great tips
I wish they would’ve had classes like this when I first got my long arm machine. What a wonderful way to not only get new ideas but encouragement when you have a group of ladies that are experienced like this. I enjoyed watching this so very very much. Thanks longarm Ladies. 🌹
I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a long arm machine and you ladies give me such inspiration and confidence. I have finished 4 quilt tops in the last several weeks so I’ll have plenty to learn on!
This was a GREAT video, I enjoyed it so much. I love your casual nature with each other and it felt like girlfriends chatting but we were still led to learn.
Thank you so much for letting us watch you brain storm. This was like a really great class. I learned so much and don't feel nearly as alone in my "what if quilted this" thoughts. I thought I was the only one who had to really study about what to quilt in all areas. I will look for you to repeat this HQ Live idea again. Thanks again.
As a very new quilter I found this extremely helpful. I have made 4 quilts and have done very boring straight line quilting. I have never heard of the preview paper. Definitely going to look for it. Thank you all.
I really thought that writing off my plastic on to my quilt with a dry erase marker was a super rookie move.., now I don’t feel as bad...lol. It was only about 2”, but of course it was in a thick black marker! I tried several ways to remove it and believe it or not...Murphy’s oil soap got it off. Thank you ladies...this was very helpful!
My question on double batting is if you have wool and 80/20 will they have the same shrink rate. Since I do not know how that affects a quilt, I only make wall hangings when I double batting. Is this even something to worry about?
If you design your borders first, do you still quilt from the center out so the fabric doesn't bunch up or is that not an issue with longarms like it can be with domestic machines? Thanks.
Another lady on here said Murphy’s oil soap got it out. In the future, try Crayola children’s washable markers instead. They wash out if you make a boo-boo. 😁
@@HandiQuilter ok thank you I don't know if you can help me fine a pattern that I can work into a crossword puzzle as a family tree for my mum the blocks on that quilt are awesome instead of me just using plain square blocks
Do you change thread color a lot when working with blocks in different colors? Using all clear on bobbin thread. On top...Color thread white on white and clear on colors or color on colors. That’s what I’m doing this time. Was going to try dense stippling behind white on white foliage design in sashing with bigger flower design in blocks of dots. But, the needle holes look really huge (14 needle) so took it out. Looks ok with green on green tho.
I take a black and white photo of the quilt. Doing this eliminates color and accentuates the quilts design elements which makes picking out designs easier for me.
Can you give someone who has a domestic (Bernina790) machine on how to 'kick it up a notch' and up my game on free motion quilting and making it look good? Even when I slow down the speed and use a stitch regulator, my stitching still looks jerky and very unprofessional (in my opinion). Any hope for someone like me? Thanks in advance.
Edge to edge is an overall pattern that is usually done by the computer on the quilting machine. It is not custom quilting, which is what these ladies are talking about.
Edge to Edge is any design that covers the entire quilt. It is usually a repeated design that quilts out continuously. It can be done using a computerized system, pantographs, groovy boards, or free motion.
It was inspiring to see 3 versions of the same quilt. Thank you for the great ideas.
I would love more videos like this. I learned a lot and like how well you three chat together
Three very experienced and interesting ladies.. Loved the input from each of you!!

Great video thank you for sharing your ideas. I wish I could see all of you in person!
This was great!! I loved having the different perspectives on each quilt. Please do this again!!
Really great and helpful segment. Thanks ladies!!!
I have soooo many unquilted tops. I can’t keep up. Lol. I have over 20 unquilted tops. So I am right there with you!
Same here I have 18 tops to practice on .
@@LUCINDA2789 It weighs on me!
I inherited 50 quilt tops from my grandma!! I still have about 10 to go but there is hope!! Just keep on quilting!

Great job, ladies. Really enjoyed all the information you shared.
This was a GREAT video, I enjoyed it so much. I love your casual nature with each other and it felt like girlfriends chatting but we were still led to learn.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a new quilter, the was extremely helpful for me. Thank you for taking the time to explain your processes.
This was a fabulous Live! So much good information. Definitely worth watching more than once. You ladies rock!
It was really fun to listen to you ladies talk about all these designs and how you make your decisions.
Thanks ladies! This video is such a good reference. I can’t wait to use Prostitcher to audition quilt designs on my quilts
Glad it was helpful!

As a fairly new quilter, I appreciate all this information. Thank you

My favorite instructor got the Ed gig at HQ? Fabulous! Congrats, Kelly!
Hi Alison 😊 hope to see you again soon my friend
Great ideas and information. Thanks so much!

I use Crayola washable children’s markers for this. Just in case of an accident, they are washable (wash-out-able 😂) And, they don’t stink! 😊
Very informational. I liked the format, showing it three ways. I hope you do another video about thread choices.
Great presentation!

Thanks. Really enjoyed seeing your processes. Would love to hear more on thread. What type, what colours, top and bottom.

Excellent, very helpful. Is the proquilter something you can add on any machine.
That will help me to make and choice my design.
Happy summer day to all from Lacey, WA.
Ok. So I have accidentally drawn on my quilt too instead of my preview shield. How do you get the marker out? Any tried and true solutions?
Another lady on here said Murphy’s oil soap got it out. In the future, try Crayola children’s washable markers instead. They wash out if you make a boo-boo. 😁
this was a great program i learnt alot the quilt thats hanging behind you all is there a pattern for it. I'm a beginner have done 2 blocks so far
Hi Tessa. that's a vintage top that one of our educators quilted. We don't know the pattern for it.
@@HandiQuilter ok thank you I don't know if you can help me fine a pattern that I can work into a crossword puzzle as a family tree for my mum the blocks on that quilt are awesome instead of me just using plain square blocks
Actually the quilt hanging on the wall is from the book Vintage Quilt Revival

I try not to change thread colors much. I will choose a finer thread and a light color then blends with all blocks or use Monopoly
Enjoyed this! Realize this wasn't part of the show, but does anyone know where to find a pattern for the quilt hanging on the wall?😊
It is from the book Vintage Quilt Revival
Thank you so much!! Very useful, informative, and inspiring!! Christina, what is the app you use on your phone?
Carmen, It is called YouDoodle. I use the free version. There are many other drawing apps available as well. -Kristina
Kristina Whitney HQ Studio Educator Thanks!! Can’t wait to try.😀
Hi from Michigan

Gail Auen that’s a great idea. Thank you.
You have to start somewhere!
Good morning from Dawn in Florence, Oregon
What product do you use to design your quilt, the clear paper? Wonderful tool. Where would I purchase?
The clear paper is called Preview Paper and can be purchased from your local retailer or on the Handi Quilter website.
Hello from Hartland, MI
Does anyone know what quilt pattern is shown at 25:00, the vintage one that looks like beach balls?
That quilt was one that my grandmother pieced. I don't know what the pattern name is or if she even used a pattern. Sorry!
Hi from Montreal
Great information! What is the name of the phone app that you mentioned for drawing out a design on a photo of a quilt? That sounds very handy.
It is called YouDoodle. There are a variety of drawing apps out there that you can use! I use the free version.
Oh and I did end up putting painters tape along all edges of the plastic so it never happens again.

What do they mean when they say "edge to edge" -Is that quilting edge to edge, or is that a design?
Edge to edge is an overall pattern that is usually done by the computer on the quilting machine. It is not custom quilting, which is what these ladies are talking about.
Edge to Edge is any design that covers the entire quilt. It is usually a repeated design that quilts out continuously. It can be done using a computerized system, pantographs, groovy boards, or free motion.
