As far as I can remember the reason why obtaining Black luster soldier through that password on your pocket station doesn't work is because every Pocket station has a specific ID and depending on that number some cards are obtainable and some aren't obtainable through that function. Basically some cards are exclusive for some pocket stations depending on their ID. And this makes an about one in 400,000 chance that your pocket station has the correct ID for Black luster soldier to be possible to be obtained on that pocket station. I remember reading this on that forum and I'm sure you can still find that information. I also remember some player and altering the idea of the pocket station through some computer stuff I don't know what it was and he was able to basically change the id and get any card was possible. I guess the reason they made it like this is because they could make these cards very rare so only one in 400,000 players could have Black luster soldier. Of course that is excluding any duplication shenanigans. Don't quote me on this information but I'm quite sure it's something along these lines and it this information can still be found on the forum.

It's almost sad that so many games from the sorta 2000s era had a TON of content that's really annoying to access these days, either due to being linked to gimmicky peripherals that are hard to find, or early online downloadable content where you need to rely on a fan-hosted server (looking at you, Dragon Quest 9) Great video, man, keep it up.
Let's be thankful that playstation stopped at the pocket station and didnt do a Nintento to introduce card readers, light sensors, beyblade controllers etc.
That's what really pissed me of of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, I would've liked to play that game with my brother, but we couldn't because we didn't have a GBA and the cable to connect it to the GameCube

I vaguely knew about the PocketStation as a kid because I read somewhere (maybe a magazine?) about connecting one to Final Fantasy VIII to get extra items and stuff.
I'm pretty sure Final Fantasy VIII tells you about the pocket station in game. It even shows up on the save file menu if I'm right. The translators did their job if no one else did in localizing the thing.
I recently beat the game using the 15 card mod for the first time. I never had a PS1 and only got to play the game at a cousin's place when I was a kid. It's so good that I only now actually played the game, and with a modded version. I would have probably left that game with a bad case of hate if I had to face the Final 6 at an age where the concept of hard grinding in video games like that A/S tech for Megamorph was foreign to me.

Nightmare must have been doing it with himself all that time he was locked away in some other realm. Of course he had two of them. He has two memory cards. That's why you fight him twice.

Are you sure about what you said at 4:42? I think it counts the number of times you've obtained a card with the remote communication method. It doesn't check if you have it in your library. I cannot confirm that though, for not having a pocketstation, but I read the save data structure and it suggests that.
I'll have to do a re-check on that as my data is maxed out on it. Unless its a limitation on Australian remote signals being patchy at best to work with this thing

As a 24 year old veteran of games that played FBM when I was a kid and also an avid player of the tcg, I find the dedication of understanding and engineering ways to trivialize FBM so fascinating and heartwarming. Very interesting info and very good video.

BEUD and Gate Guardian, the very first and second transfers worked, tho. Maybe there is something related to a "cooldown" for fusions? For now it's fine but, as I wish to have at least one copy of each card this can be a hinderance.- -Also, I simply cannot even -*-try-*- to make Magician of Black Chaos because the program does not let me select the ritual card (721), now that's weird.- ~ EDIT: Never mind this part. Communication fusion is different from the rituals. SOME rituals are also comm. fusions, but it seems not all of them are enabled. Well, back to praying to RNGesus for getting them via IR...

Such a cool device that boosted quite a few games, aaaaaand not released outside of japan. Yugioh obviously impacted, but so was Legend of Dragoon. Game has an item slot total of 32 initially, and a pocket station exclusive minigame wpuld have doubled that...

Hey man! I have a strange idea for a video and am curious if you would be interested. You would have to beat the game with the same rules you use, but you cannot attack the opponents field. You have to have effective attacks or have the opponent suicide themselves. Decent idea?
No direct attacks (monster only)? Or no attacking in general? (ie spam the self-ko trick). It can be done, it will be so slow to pull off though... i'll keep that idea in mind when i feel sadiatic enough to try it (genuinely think i might)
@@Jon_Oh Do you remember how in the first season of yugioh they couldn’t attack the field directly? They could only attack other monsters in attack mode! It would be difficult in the early parts of the run because the opponents monsters are so weak. You would basically have to bait them into attacking you. You could destroy cards in defense mode, but you would only be able to decrease their life points from attacking monsters in attack mode. I’ve also had this idea where someone does a play through of the game where they are not allowed to throw or waste cards. Almost as though you have to play the game the way the AI plays. You can only use multiple cards in a hand if it fuses. Tell me what you think!

It will be interesting because all the strong dragons come from later duelists with S Ranks. Challenge will be to actually win them with sub 1600 monsters

Yes they are, both the save data and actual game a region specific. Hence why i had to rename the Japanese save to a US/PAL save in order to use it (using a modded ps2)

Not all that difficult. The game doesn't let you duel or trade if you have the same player name. You need 3 memory cards to duplicate and all you're really doing is continuously copying Card 1 to Card 3 and trading everything across to Card 2 then back to Card 1
I remember I was so angry at the fact that the enemies had access to cards I didn't and all the cards were in the game already, shielded by some useless cash grab peripheral, so I did what any woman worth their salt would do, finished the game just to show it could be done, then used gameshark to unlock everything... I mean, if the enemies of the game and konami wouldn't play fair, why should I?

I remember messing around with IR stuff in pokemon silver and a tv remote (surprisingly, it worked with mystery gift)
Never got it to work with the remotes, thr mystery gift was sadnly rather meh. I always got berries

Hey jonoh im wondering if you know about the disk swap method with a moded ps1 that reads japanese and north american games you can switchs disks american to japanese version before you win the duel and can win all of the unobtainable cards in the game using this method im currently up to 704 cards in the library thought this might be a cool concept for a video
I never had the ability to get that to work (likely due to me being PAL region), i heard that is a valid strat to get cards. SImply lack the current resources to make a video on it :(

I'm almost sure there is a way obtaining blackluster ritual whithout this device. I had the european pal version of the game, in spanish, and i had it, and i swear to god that i didnt made a single cheat back im the day! Somebody has info about this?
It may have been possible using a disc swap glitch where you open the Playstation before the card drop gets calculated
Hey man! I have a strange idea for a video and am curious if you would be interested. You would have to beat the game with the same rules you use, but you cannot attack the opponents field. You have to have effective attacks or have the opponent suicide themselves. Decent idea?
No direct attacks (monster only)? Or no attacking in general? (ie spam the self-ko trick).
It can be done, it will be so slow to pull off though... i'll keep that idea in mind when i feel sadiatic enough to try it (genuinely think i might)
@@Jon_Oh Do you remember how in the first season of yugioh they couldn’t attack the field directly? They could only attack other monsters in attack mode! It would be difficult in the early parts of the run because the opponents monsters are so weak. You would basically have to bait them into attacking you. You could destroy cards in defense mode, but you would only be able to decrease their life points from attacking monsters in attack mode.
I’ve also had this idea where someone does a play through of the game where they are not allowed to throw or waste cards. Almost as though you have to play the game the way the AI plays. You can only use multiple cards in a hand if it fuses. Tell me what you think!

In the end Forbidden Memories strongest type is Dragon 😅, I think we dont need see you play Dragon only type if you already have the strongest card.
It will be interesting because all the strong dragons come from later duelists with S Ranks. Challenge will be to actually win them with sub 1600 monsters

Yes they are, both the save data and actual game a region specific. Hence why i had to rename the Japanese save to a US/PAL save in order to use it (using a modded ps2)

Can you do a tutorial on memory card duplication
Not all that difficult. The game doesn't let you duel or trade if you have the same player name. You need 3 memory cards to duplicate and all you're really doing is continuously copying Card 1 to Card 3 and trading everything across to Card 2 then back to Card 1
I remember I was so angry at the fact that the enemies had access to cards I didn't and all the cards were in the game already, shielded by some useless cash grab peripheral, so I did what any woman worth their salt would do, finished the game just to show it could be done, then used gameshark to unlock everything... I mean, if the enemies of the game and konami wouldn't play fair, why should I?
Stupid me as a kid wasted so many hours dueling those opponents thinkig the cards would drop from their decks 😅
@Dewani makes you smarter than I am. I couldn't even figure out how to use the cheating thing I had. Was a disc in a package that was too small for my computer's disc drive.
