There are actually 4 games in the US that support the Pocket Station, FF8, Saga Frontier 2, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Street Fighter 3 Alpha. Also there is a way for the PS3 to read the pocket station, the icon comes up and everything. I forget the steps but I know it exists. Great video!
it was amazing. I never played street fighter but the game allowed me to install a digimon game but with SF characters. U can fight your friends digimon style.
Bit late but interestingly, if you have a pocketstation plugged in in the 2nd slot while playing YuGiOh Duelists of the Roses, you can duel a new enemy called Deck Master I, which uses Immortal monsters. (Not my discovery)
Great video dude, remember hearing about this thing when I was a kid and reading about all the cool ways it would interact with games. Thanks for demoing it
Neat! It makes me think they could bring PocketStation back as an app, especially now that you can sign into PSN/SEN and access the saves of your existing games. A portable minigame to unlock stuff for the big game is still a great idea!
There’s always the mentioned PSVita support ☺️ it’s region-unlockable via a mod script and also allows for PIP side-by-side display with the PS1 render window.
Thanks for this video! I was in Japan a few weeks ago and I was buying some PS1 games. One of them had support for PocketStation, and the store also had those so picked one up. This video helped me get things up and running!
I know the video is a bit older now, but, dude, if this is any indication of the quality and thoroughness, I'm more than happy to sub and bell! I've got two pocket stations on their way right now :D.
IIRC, in FFVIII / Chocobo World, there were certain items/treasures that could ONLY be gotten by owning and using a PocketStation. The elitism was awesome. :)
Never heard of a Pocketstation until now, and i'm someone who knows a bunch about game consoles and whatnot. But i can see why, it's basically like a tamagotchi size memory card with a screen, that can play tiny games.
@@bobdotexe That’s great! I needed a memory card for my two PS1 games I have anyway, so I ordered a PocketStation. Excited for its arrival. Thank you for the very informative video!
The Spyro games didn't have PocketStation support removed, it was added specifically to the Japanese versions, which were released after the US versions.
Just get any Playstation that has the parallell port on the back, which is basically every single revision except the last couple ones, then get an Action Replay, Gameshark or any other parallell port cheat cartridge. Then burn the Unirom installation CD, and do the swap trick once. When you have booted that CD, you can install Unirom on the parallell port cartridge. That way, you can play games from any region, and you can bypass copy protection too. If it fits on the cartridge, I recommend that you select Unirom+Caetla in the menu, since Caetla has a built-in memory card manager so that you don't have to take it out if you need to manage your memory cards.
@@KopperNeoman TonyHax is for the PS1 and it uses the same exploits as UniROM, but it's much less convenient since you have to boot a different game to use it first.
So glad you found a peripheral you always wanted! For me, it was the SNES Super Scope which I wanted for the longest time so I could finally play Yoshi’s Safari. And I knew it was a crap shoot as to whether it would work or not from eBay especially. Luckily, it did! And it only took six AA batteries!
@@bobdotexe thank you!! Honestly didn’t expect a response, but thanks for answering! Doing research after I posted this I think it is the Puyo Puyo game
5:58 i think is a mistake, you can use this woth ps3 with the official ps2 memory card adapter fpr ps3 from sony. Even logo for pocket station comes up on ps3.
Thanks for the video, just set the date and time on mine. I loved the VMU's and I decided to give this a shot since I started collecting to play Playstation 1 stuff. Might try to add homebrew stuff, but it's just cool to have. I also like collecting memory cards tho.
Someone somewhere on the internet has to have a dump of all the Pocketstation games right!? I’d love to have one of these. I remember seeing one in a magazine back in the day but then we never got it in the US
Thank you for the great video! I have had PS1's for years since around 1999 (I first had a Saturn) but never had a Pocketstation. I just ordered one from ebay :)
I believe it's called "Car-kun" or something, it's the mini game from puyo puyo on ps1 You can learn how to unlock it here: puyonexus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3551
One small correction is that you can read pocketstations on a PS3, you just need the (now expensive) adapter. I back up my pocketstation on my PS3's virtual memory cards.
I see your point, but backing up the pocketstation, and actively using it with games is a little different. For example, as far as I'm aware, you can't actually run a pocketstation ps1 game on your PS3, and transfer the mini-game directly, you can only backup and copy data, as you would with a normal memory card.
There's at least 4 Pocket Digimon World full of monsters to evolve... They are complete V-pet games discs for you to play and train on Pocketstation that you can use to battle on the PS1 after training them. They are awesome games but in japanese only. But it's fun.
It was basically PSP BEFORE PSP, even if it looks like a Game Boy clone, just like the Dreamcast memory Card. But it's okay. It was still kinda cool. Also Dreamcast did a home console with two screens, one bigger, one smaller, kinda like a 3DS, BEFORE WiiU
Gaming, in general, is somewhat of a cosmic joke. You have an era of strange paraphernalia, which could've added so much value to your console but the technology wasn't so far ahead at that time OR you have an era where it's now possible, but nobody cares anymore.
"There's no way to use it on PS3" Semi-False. Sony released a memory card adapter for PS3 that supports it. It even shows up with it's own icon on the XMB The True part is, games won't use the adapter directly, so they'll never detect the PocketStation and thus never save to it.
That's pretty much what I meant, Since games can't read to/from it you can't even download new mini-games, you can only backup/restore existing data, And I don't really consider that 'using' the Pocket Station in any meaningful way.

Pcsx2 shows any mcd file as a pocketstation on the ps2 browser
It wasn't unofficial !!!
That memory card was a performance version used for GameShark 👌

Confused by the compatibility. Does it work as a memory card for all titles, but the ones listed include the mini games?
yes, it always works as a ps1 memory card.
But select games will detect it as a 'pocket station' and will allow to transfer mini-games
