Worked on my 2010 Dodge grand caravan. My am/fm and the cd player were not working for years, all I could do was play pandora from my cell phone thru the audio plug in port of the radio and then that finally went a few months ago. Thank you so much man , you saved my father from a 300$ so called repair job from the local mechanic. Before i couldn’t play Cd’s & am/fm radio but now with your help i fixed everything
This worked for me, I made a little heat shield out of tin foil to protect the other nearby components and only expose the pins of the chip. Found a cheap hot air station on Amazon and set it to about 450 degf for about 8-10 seconds on each side while holding pressure. Working great now, thanks!
THANK YOU! 🥳 I just finished and it WORKED!!!!! I took a hot air gun on high and blasted the chip for a good 30s. Took it to the van hooked it up again. Didn't work! BUT it would work if I pressed down on the chip while still connected. So I took it out, blasted it again, pressed down on the chip with a screwdriver for a good 2-3 mins to cool. Then I cut a wood skewer to length and wedged it so it was like a tent pole on top of the chip to under the CD bracket and VOILA!! Works fine! BACKSTORY: Was not working properly for well over a year! 2012 Dodge Caravan. Radio reception would get lost then it finally cut out with 0 volume. Only AUX or CD worked 'off and on' for a few seconds at a time. I wish you the best my man! I really do thank you! And Bless all the helpful people in the youtube community ❤
Just made this repair to my 2014 Jeep Wrangler radio this past weekend. Worked perfectly! My AM/FM stopped working a few months ago and then last week, the radio sound would go on and off every few seconds. This repair fixed both issues! Thanks for the video!!

Thanks for the tip and the clear video! Mine didn't loose sound but stations would drift in/out, no lock on, just got noise on AM (no signal found), etc. Figured it was the same chip. One tip.... Be careful how much air flow is going out your hot air gun! I accidentally below 3 0402's off their pads (oh oh!). Fortunately your video quality was so good I was able to match the 3 parts up and soldered back in place. Works like a champ now!
I ended up cutting a 1/4" square of wood, and jammed it between the chip and the metal support just above it. Just that extra pressure keeps the connection, and the radio works. We'll see how long it lasts, though
Did you wedge the wood between the black chip and the metal piece above it on the wall of the radio? I’m looking to do the same. Were the dimensions 1/4x1/4x 3/4 or something similar?
@@bonilla1221 Yes, that's what I did. I read on another YT post where someone else put a plastic pen cap in there, and that worked for them. Good day friend. I just became a power of a 2012 grand Cherokee similar issues. AM/FM still not working possibly because i don’t have the external antenna. HOWEVER ur video works. My satellite & aux port no longer cuts in & out. Please keep sharing great content ❤
Thank you!! I ordered a Rework Station (Vevitts 858D) from Amazon but needed to set it to 220 deg C to make the solder repair for our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan with the same radio in this video. We had no sound on AM/FM while Satellite and Aux did have sound.
Great video. Mine's doing the same and I'll get around to trying this...thanks much!!! The board is conformal coated and protects largely against moisture...but it also holds in some heat generated by the components. Note that "heating up" and "cooling down" cycles deteriorate solder connections over time. I imagine this IC gets hot when in use which may be why it's uncoated. If you coat this IC in the future, it may get hotter than expected and may fail permanently. A better idea, since there appears to be plenty of room, is to purchase a heat sink for that style of IC package and attach it to the top using something like Arctic Silver (thermal adhesive)...and actually, any heat sink that will fit in the area would help to some degree...
Thanks, I hope it works for you. There is a fan inside this piece, though from the looks of it, I don't think it runs very often, if ever at all. I'd be much more apt to modify that fan such that it runs continuously whenever the unit is powered on.
@@_zhawkeye_9808 hey, sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I just did the repair in this video and I was wondering if you ever got around to working on the fan? If so, would you be willing to share some tips on that?
@@crypticgamma6308 ...hey Cryptic...well, no I didn't do it...I was anxious about getting the Jeep back together, so I put it off. I seem to remember there being room around the front left side (?) where there's already vent holes (this was quite a while back, so I may be wrong)... I seem to remember vent holes at the rear right side too, so a fan sucking in air at the front left would blow across the IC in question and out the right rear. Finding a switched 12 volt connection point inside the radio is the issue...I didn't take time to track down a good place for this connection...the 12 volt input into the radio is likely not switched, and present all the time so that the radio can retain the programmed stations...and, it could be that a switched 12V connection isn't available...it's likely connected to a 5V regulator to run the radio and retain memory. I'd prefer a 12V fan over a 5V fan as it would draw less current, and a 5V fan added to the 5V regulator will put more stress on the regulator... Wish I could've helped more on this... Matt
Thanks for the detailed video. I heard you could do this so I took my stereo out but couldn't figure out how to safely take it apart so this really helped!
2014 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. Sound was cutting in and out every 3-4 seconds. Spent hours of time trying to figure out the problem until I found this solution. Re-flowed the chip as described that seemed to be causing the problem and it worked. We’ll see how well it holds and how long it lasts. The soldering around the chip was very sparse and cracked before I re-flowed. Thanks for the solution!
Have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with a factory Jeep 56002467(1991) AM/FM Cassette Player and swapped out the tape modules in two 2467 cases. Now I have me some rocking tunes. Now what I need to know is what is the cause of either the left or right channel going out on a 2467 and on a 56009004(1992) the volume knob is maxed out but I still need just a little bit more volume.
Thanks so much for this. I've fixed electronics my entire life, but never used a rework station. I bought one for $50, and saved the cost of a repair which was quoted at $295. Radio works fine now!
Amazing, this worked perfectly. While I was watching the video I was thinking, No Way. It worked...By the way, Dodge was going to charge me more than $1000 to replace the radio, thank you...
Thanks for the video!! Not only does my FM/AM not work, but the stereo comes on for 6-8 seconds and off 6-8 second repeatedly. Even with incoming calls. Once you attempt to correct the problem, what needs to be connected back to the car to check if problem solved? Does EVERYTHING need to be reassembled?
Add some flux, use some leaded solder and a soldering iron. Clean up any bridges and then test. Once its working and clean use some clear spray paint like Rust-Oleum enamel clear or similar that dries in about 20 minutes to touch... Done... ;)
My ‘15 Grand Caravan radio has this problem. My radio looks the same as the one you repaired. Now I need to find someone in my area that can repair my radio!
Would it be the same chip if there is no sound from anything, including MP3, Satellite, and CDplayer. It started with AM/FM radio and each went out over the span of 6 months.
Thanks for posting this video. I just bought a 2012 ram 1500 with this problem, no sound on AM/FM but Satellite radio had sound, haven't checked the CD player yet. I will be purchasing a soder reworking station and doing this repair. Thanks again.
After I fixed mine, the CD stopped shortly after and was replaced with an Alpine deck (needed a Dodge power module for $200 Canadian) and an adapter plate. I am more than happy now.
Hi! Thank you for your time and vidéo. My model is Dodge grand caravan 2017 and the chip is not at the same place as yours. I have one big chip about in the Middleton and one medium chip in one corner. Is it the big one in my case?
Thanks for the video ! My 2016 Grand Caravan radio FM is working fine, but AM radio just some noise, never used CD but think it is fine. I am thinking to follow your video see if it can fix the problem. Just waiting a on line order heat gun to be delivered.
Hi Jordan, Do you know a silicone removing agent that I can use to remove the electronic component sealer/ glue I put on top of the microchip to hold it down and help with keeping contact? I want to reflow the solder.
Is there any way to get Bluetooth on this type of radio though I’ve spent almost an hour trying to connect my phone to it but I don’t know if I actually can
Thanks for the video. You just saved me at least $400 and my time if I had to replace this with an aftermarket stereo. Your method worked like a charm.
Thank you for this video! It helped me to fix my Chrysler stereo. However, I can no longer adjust the volume after this action. Would you happen to know what can be a problem? Neither the buttons on the steering wheel nor the volume control changes the noise level. Maybe I hit some other chip or connection? Thanks for the answer!
Sure...even a wide flat tip iron will work...place it across several of the legs for a second or two (until the solder melts) and pull the tip straight down the legs and off the device. Pulling the tip down the legs will draw the solder to it, and keep the solder from bridging between the legs. Of course, it would be best if you could practice this on an old PCB...
Any ideas for a 09 dodge radio that had orange lines going across the screen(also was hot) then on shutdown and restart its completely dead. Will take apart when i can but was curious if you had any direction. Thank you
It sounds like one of the chips on your unit may have failed. I don't know enough about the schematic of this radio to know which one draws the screen, but it sounds like you may be out of luck on that one.
any tips for CDs that don't eject and have read errors? I took my cd drive out, top panel off, manually removed the CD. Don't see anything amiss visually.
@@JordanU so it said ejecting but didn't eject. then it could play cd a little then said cd read error, then no eject. So I took apart and removed CD from the top. Cannot load a new cd either. Stumped.
Thank you so very much!! This video is extremely detailed and valuable. You saved me from buying a new radio. I only wish the video I found to remove the radio from the dash was as good as this one was. Awesome job!! 👍👍👍
My issue was a station would fade to static a few seconds after tuning. This fixed the issue however, not sure how long it will last. I used a soldering iron at the edge of the chip since I didnt have a heat gun handy.
Hi! My repair lasted several months but has reverted. At the end of the vid you hint that you may have to do something more to keep the problem from recurring...epoxy? Something else? How would you do it? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this excellent video! I was able to fix my radio without taking it to be repaired or replaced. What a great and rewarding project 👍🏼 Thank God!
Worked for me too, Thank you for the video. FYI, in my case the sound was cutting off every few seconds with a popping noise (not loud)- radio, usb, bluetooth.
People should know that this is not a through hole chip, it just lies on the board, if you are not careful you can move the chip right off of its spot which is what happened to me. As did a bunch of smaller resistors, so only put heat on for a very short time and push straight down. I ended up finding another radio at junkyard for $28 and did not need a code, worked as soon as I plugged it in.
You would need to determine the pin-out sequence of the connector and a power supply. Probably not worth the trouble, these units are highly prone to failure anyways.
Hi Jordan, Thank you for your video. I have used your instructions to fix the radio, but it worked only for a while. I had to reflow the solder again and again. I even used a special hardening silicone to glue the chip to the board but still is not a permanent fix. The radio will work sometimes but not always. Do you have any suggestions to make it a permanent fix? Maybe a spring that will push it down?
Thanks! Works great, if it doesn't work first time try again. Make sure gun is close and hot and hold for 6 seconds, press down pretty hard. 3rd time I did it it worked, figured the radio would have been trash anyways.
Thank you. I don’t know if this would help re sealing, but you can get liquid electrical tape. We have the same problem in our 2016 Dodge Caravan. The dealer wanted a fortune to fix the no audio problem. We took it to two local repair shops, and they both said this is a very common problem. It bothers me Dodge has been knowingly using these defective stereos. IMO, this should be a recall item. Dodge shouldn’t be able to get away with selling vehicles with defective stereos. I’d love to find out how many vehicles have this problem, so everyone could make a complaint to the BBB. I’d also like to add, Dodge vehicles ( some of them from 2013 - present) with aluminum hoods, are corroding. It shows up as paint bubbles around the edges of the hood. Dodge TSB # 31-002-20 explains the reason for the problem, instructions for investigating and repair. Once I became aware of the problem, I look at vans in parking lots, etc., and I’ve seen hundreds of them. They should be forced to issue a recall. We’ve had three Dodge Caravans in a row. We loved them, and still would if they weren’t having so many problems.
I did this repair in my jeep radio yesterday and it worked great. However, this afternoon my volume control stopped working. The volume goes down but not up. Could this problem be related to the fix?
My wife's 2013 Chrysler 200 lost the AM/FM signal. If I turn up the volume I hear static. It's like the antenna is unplugged. It's intermittent. Is this what you mean by losing sound? Or if you turn up your broken radio, do you not even hear static?
My Radio in my 2012 Dodge Ram was doing the same thing. I just used the CD and SAT. That has been fine for the last year or so but now any audio consistently cuts in and out. (sound for a couple seconds then no sound for a couple seconds ) Could this chip be responsible for that issue also ?

@@JordanU That would be a great idea...and thanks for the heads up. I look into that when I do the repair...
@@_zhawkeye_9808 Well, mine had a place for a fan but it wasn't installed...repair went great thanks to your video...thanks.
You're welcome! I'm glad the video was helpful to you. Mine is still working so far.
Thank you for this. The guys at work and I have been trying to figure out why the AM FM won’t work. Good to know we’ll just get another radio.
You're welcome.
Great video. My radio stopped working on my ride to work this morning. Going to give this a shot this weekend. Thanks again
This fix worked perfectly on my 2014 jeep wrangler. Thank you for the video. Hope you make a million bucks
Glad it worked for you.
You're welcome.
Dude this helped me solve my problem before a long road trip! Shout out to you brother man! Much appreciated
This video just saved me buying a new stereo on my 2014 dodge grand caravan. I can’t thank you enough
Glad it was helpful.
Thanks for this honest video . I fixed the fm/am on the radio following the steps you show. Thank you.
You're welcome.
It's probably the same model, it was used in quite a few vehicles.
Would it be the same chip if there is no sound from anything, including MP3, Satellite, and CDplayer. It started with AM/FM radio and each went out over the span of 6 months.
I don't think so.
Yes mine had no sound at all and this fixed it all
Thanks for posting this video. I just bought a 2012 ram 1500 with this problem, no sound on AM/FM but Satellite radio had sound, haven't checked the CD player yet. I will be purchasing a soder reworking station and doing this repair. Thanks again.
Hope you're able to get yours going again!
Thank you so much! Had to buy a small torx set but now I have one for the future AND my radio works!
You made a great video👍🏻
Thanks
Perfect! I just followed the video and now the radio is working. A simple fix. Could not have done it without the video.
Glad the video was useful.
I had my new stereo ready to replace and I came out with your video and I try and it worked!
Now I'm returning the new stereo,
Thank you so much😃
Glad the video was useful!
After I fixed mine, the CD stopped shortly after and was replaced with an Alpine deck (needed a Dodge power module for $200 Canadian) and an adapter plate. I am more than happy now.
Thanks for letting me know.
Hi! Thank you for your time and vidéo. My model is Dodge grand caravan 2017 and the chip is not at the same place as yours. I have one big chip about in the Middleton and one medium chip in one corner. Is it the big one in my case?
I'm not familiar with any other revisions of this radio.
Thanks for the video ! My 2016 Grand Caravan radio FM is working fine, but AM radio just some noise, never used CD but think it is fine. I am thinking to follow your video see if it can fix the problem. Just waiting a on line order heat gun to be delivered.
Thanks for posting this! I followed it step by step yesterday and it worked like a charm
You’re welcome; I’m glad it worked for you.
@@JordanU well I spoke too soon stopped again.Wonder if I try it again????
@@Chief8990 You may not have gotten it hot enough.

hell yeah brother. gonna try this soon, been riding around for like 2 years now with no radio
Should work!
So helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make and post this video!!! Worked like a charm.
You're welcome.
lol i used a hair dryer, use foil to narrow the air flow & tweezers to apply pressure I’m so happy for ur tutorial
I'm surprised that got it hot enough.
Hi Jordan, Do you know a silicone removing agent that I can use to remove the electronic component sealer/ glue I put on top of the microchip to hold it down and help with keeping contact? I want to reflow the solder.
I'm not sure.
Is there any way to get Bluetooth on this type of radio though I’ve spent almost an hour trying to connect my phone to it but I don’t know if I actually can
Your the MAN! It worked with just a blow dryer and pressure 😁much appreciated!!
I'm surprised that got it hot enough. If it quits again, you may have to get a proper heat gun for higher temperature.
@@JordanU so yea it did start the on and off again but as soon as I went to take it out it started playing normal again lol so imma enjoy for now 😅
Thanks for the video. You just saved me at least $400 and my time if I had to replace this with an aftermarket stereo. Your method worked like a charm.
You're welcome.
I'm having the same problem if I get it aftermarket radio will the sound work? @jordanu

Does this solution apply to radio/speakers making a pop sound every five seconds?
Thank you for this video! It helped me to fix my Chrysler stereo. However, I can no longer adjust the volume after this action. Would you happen to know what can be a problem? Neither the buttons on the steering wheel nor the volume control changes the noise level. Maybe I hit some other chip or connection? Thanks for the answer!
Not sure, I suspect you may have unintentionally damaged something else in the process.
The radio on my 2011 had sound briefly about once a week. I will open the POS and take a look. THANK YOU
You're welcome.
Thanks for this video. It worked just as you showed. Radio is working great again!
Such a simple solution, I could care less about an expensive sound system, noise y noise. But I want my oem stuff to work. Thank you!

It needs a wiring harness, will the site blow it up?
Worked like a charm, glad to have my FM radio back. Thanks!!!
You're welcome.
Thank you for this video. Saved me a lot of money on a new radio. Also very well done tutorial. Stay well my friend.
You're welcome.
Excellent video, I did the fix and radio working perfectly. Thanks!!!
What do you suggest if someone doesn't have a heat gun? Could it be done with a pencil tip soldering iron or maybe carefully use a small butane torch?
Sure...even a wide flat tip iron will work...place it across several of the legs for a second or two (until the solder melts) and pull the tip straight down the legs and off the device. Pulling the tip down the legs will draw the solder to it, and keep the solder from bridging between the legs. Of course, it would be best if you could practice this on an old PCB...
@@_zhawkeye_9808 Thank you, Matt for your time and advice 👍😎🤠🇺🇸
I suppose it can be done with a soldering iron, but with something this small you'd have to be very well-versed in the use of the iron.
@@JordanU Thanks for responding 🤠
Any ideas for a 09 dodge radio that had orange lines going across the screen(also was hot) then on shutdown and restart its completely dead. Will take apart when i can but was curious if you had any direction.
Thank you
It sounds like one of the chips on your unit may have failed. I don't know enough about the schematic of this radio to know which one draws the screen, but it sounds like you may be out of luck on that one.
@@JordanU Well thank you very much for your input, take care
any tips for CDs that don't eject and have read errors? I took my cd drive out, top panel off, manually removed the CD. Don't see anything amiss visually.
Not sure, I've never had an issue with the CD aspect of mine.
@@JordanU so it said ejecting but didn't eject. then it could play cd a little then said cd read error, then no eject. So I took apart and removed CD from the top. Cannot load a new cd either. Stumped.
@@JnJShiffler Sorry, I really have no knowledge of the CD circuits. I've never had to look into my unit beyond the FM decoder.
Did you ever put a silicone coating over the chip, and if so what did you use?
No, I never found the need to.
Thank you so very much!! This video is extremely detailed and valuable. You saved me from buying a new radio. I only wish the video I found to remove the radio from the dash was as good as this one was. Awesome job!! 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
My issue was a station would fade to static a few seconds after tuning. This fixed the issue however, not sure how long it will last. I used a soldering iron at the edge of the chip since I didnt have a heat gun handy.
It's still holding for me, as long as it gets hot enough I think it should last a long time.
Hi! My repair lasted several months but has reverted. At the end of the vid you hint that you may have to do something more to keep the problem from recurring...epoxy? Something else? How would you do it? Thanks!
Can you use any temperature heat gun? I know harbor freight sells one
Thank you so much for this excellent video! I was able to fix my radio without taking it to be repaired or replaced. What a great and rewarding project 👍🏼 Thank God!
Hi sir, I need connector pin wiring of this model, can you help me? Please
I do not have that information.
Worked for me too, Thank you for the video.
FYI, in my case the sound was cutting off every few seconds with a popping noise (not loud)- radio, usb, bluetooth.
Mines doing the same thing in my 2012 caliber
@Denis Efimov Glad the video was helpful.
Mine is doing that exact same thing now. I have the rework station on the way.
@@kristyj796 Hope you can get it going again!
Thanks for letting people know.
Is there anyway to start this radio outside of the car? I have a similar unit and I wanted to use it as garage radio
If it doesn't hold, you're not getting it hot enough.
@@JordanU Thank you so much. What can I do now that I put silicone on top of it? :(
Thanks! Works great, if it doesn't work first time try again. Make sure gun is close and hot and hold for 6 seconds, press down pretty hard. 3rd time I did it it worked, figured the radio would have been trash anyways.
You're welcome.
Usually if it doesn't work you didn't get it hot enough.
Couldn't you just squeeze some silicone on and around the chip after the repair?
I'm having the same issue right now.
Perhaps.
Great video for fixing a common issue that many with Jeeps and other Chrysler vehicles have with their radios.
-Thanks!
Followed your instructions and it worked perfectly! Thanks loads!!!!!
This worked for me too. Weller iron, flux, and microscope. 2014 Jeep Compass. Thanks Jordan!
Glad it worked out for you!
I did this repair in my jeep radio yesterday and it worked great. However, this afternoon my volume control stopped working. The volume goes down but not up. Could this problem be related to the fix?
I don't have a complete schematic of the equipment, but I don't think the volume control is related to this particular chip.
My wife's 2013 Chrysler 200 lost the AM/FM signal. If I turn up the volume I hear static. It's like the antenna is unplugged. It's intermittent. Is this what you mean by losing sound? Or if you turn up your broken radio, do you not even hear static?
No, the issue discussed in the video is for no audio at all of any kind.
My Radio in my 2012 Dodge Ram was doing the same thing. I just used the CD and SAT. That has been fine for the last year or so but now any audio
consistently cuts in and out. (sound for a couple seconds then no sound for a couple seconds )
Could this chip be responsible for that issue also ?
Probably not; this chip is only for the AM/FM radio reception. Perhaps you have a loose connection in the back of the unit.
