One thing that I haven't heard anyone say yet is just how small the joysticks are on the joycons compared to the pro controller. Totally depends on preference, but worth mentioning.
true, it hadn't occurred to me cuz to be honest the joy con ones actually feel pretty fine to me in use so far, then again something like an FPS might change that fact once we get one on Switch
Kevin Kenson to be honest the joy cons when I got a switch where much much bigger than I expected and I love the joy con grip, maybe cuz Ive got small hands it's just better
The Pro controller is much better than I anticipated. But then again, pretty much everything about the Switch is. (Minus all the online crap not being here, but who cares because Zelda)
Yeah, it feels better than the pro controller. I have only tried the pro controller in the store since it's sold out here, but I have used it for about two hours and while It's good overall it's just not wide enough for my taste. The analog sticks on the pro controller have much lighter feel witch is hard to adapt to when you're used to the stiffer analogs on the joycon.
playing breath of the wild with the joy-cons detached are the most uncomforable thing ever. it was always a pain to reach the joystick. The grip controller is masterfully great. 100 hours of BoTW later, no complains
Yeah, I use the pro controller mainly for TV and use the joy-cons for tabletop. I'm sure many of you do that. But if there is a friend I would use the controller and he uses the joycon grip and vice versa, unless it is tabletop which again, we use the joycons.
We could never have a discussion like this about any other console (except maybe the Wii and Wii U, but still not to this extent). People are really underselling how awesome this versatility is. The comfort of the seperate Joy-con, the traditional feel of the pro controller, and the balance struck by the grip all do an awesome job of making your gaming experience great.
Typical Nintendo fan meat riding a cheap company. The joycons are probably the worse next gen controller simply because of stick drift and they shouldn't be anywhere near $70. Doesn't matter how versatile it is when it's trash
@@rushpatriot2866Typical Nintendo hater just hating because they have nothing better to do in life. Go start your own company and create the perfect controller yourself then. Criticism is always needed, but calling others out for liking a product that you don’t like is plain rude, disrespectful, and completely unnecessary.
I actually prefer the joycons in the grip vs the joycons separately. For some reason, I have access moving from the trigger buttons/regular buttons to the joystick. I understand why they made them so small, now.
Something I noticed is that most people don't like how the grip feels, but when I tried it the other day, I found it alright. Not great, but alright. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I have really big hands. The spacing with the grip seems to be bad for average or small sized hands, but it worked decently for my big hands because my fingers can reach everything and wrap around the grip easily.
love the joy con grip. It works fine and is intuitive. It has a learning curve like any other new controller. I'll get my pro today but the joy con grip is great in the meanwhile. I don't like using the joy cons with out the grip, that sucks in my opinion.
A big plus that the pro controller has is that you are able to use thumb grips, the same ones you use on the PS4 controller, for more accuracy when playing shooters.
I got the pro controller because of the distance between my thumb and the right thumbstick. After playing Pokemon for a couple hours my thumb gets sore. So I bought this controller and I am going to test it out. So far, the feel in my hand feels natural for longer gaming sessions.
I haven’t played with the pro controller yet but the joy con grip to me is extremely comfortable. I think it’s because I have smaller hands. But I also do like playing with the joy cons without the grip, one in each hand. I thought it was weird at first but at the time I wasn’t used to it. I’m in love with the switch lol
I'm looking for durability in the analog stick. I'm not looking for how comfortable they are i need to know is the pro controller more durable than the joy con??
The grip feels good to me, like, I'd like a controller that feels just like the grip... But is just that without having to put the joycons in it. I love the click of the joycons and the triggers as well. If only they had like.... Instead of it being a pro controller, it was like. A Nintendo "casual" controller. Lol
I love the grip. I'm just getting a Power A Switch controller because whenever I need any of the other characteristics from the pro controller, It's enough to get the grip with both joycons attached
In 2020 RETROSPECTIVE the best and most "affordable" option in my opinion is so buy one pro controller for games that have great gyro like Overwatch and Splatoon, ONE extra set of Joycons for Mario party and games that use use the Joycons, and A Mayflash adapter for wireless Bluetooth on any controller, I feel like the is the most affordable option that gives you the best of all worlds, I'm currently playing Catherine Fully body using an Xbox one controller because that is what feels most comfortable to me, and taking the time to remap the buttons to give me an Xbox layout feels amazing, not to mention the fact that the Pro Controller has a D-Pad problem where it will actually register a Right or left movement as pressing 'Up" on the D-pad can be Devastating in some games like Tretris 99 . I'm planning on doing a Full Review and guide on my channel but, I love video and are always a supportive fan of Kevin Kenson :)

Pro controller hands down. I have one and boy... when I tried the grip for the first time (I started with the pro controller) I felt a little awkwardness at first but later got a bit better. But I'll never get over the small analog and buttons plus no D-Pad I highly recommend a pro controller for true console play
I may be alone here but I have always preferred Nintendo default controllers. I enjoyed playing with the wii u game pad, and wii mote before that. Pro controller button placement is different and it makes switching from handheld to dock play weird. I'm always hitting the home button, or when I want to capture something I can't find that button lol. I guess I'm joycon grip team.
Nadine Roberts they should have one that doesnt come with joy con but instead a pro controller although I prefer the joy con because they just allow for more play options
This is not related to the video but I need help. One of my joy-con (specifically my right red joy-con) sometimes disconnects from the console by itself. It's very bothersome especially when I'm still in-game online. Normally, I would fix this temporarily by detaching it from handheld mode to press the SYNC button and then reattaching to the console. It happens randomly and I really want to permanently fix this problem. Are there any options?
Come on npthing beats a traditional controller so you should definitely get it. But tbh the controller should come with the switch. It's crazy that you have to pay extra for it to get it.
I used the X-Box 360/One controllers for over a decade. So consider that when I say I actually preferred the layout on the Wii U pro- controller/Gamepad. The symmetry made more sense to me and it's much easier to claw-grip (forefinger on stick and thumb on buttons. Can you use the joycon grip controller when in handheld mode? And if u charge the switch while in handheld will it charge the joycons too like when it's docked
Alovon Yeah i have the switch. The joycon grip IS NOT UNCOMFORTABLE AT ALL. Hand size is pretty average, every setup of the switch is extremely comfortable for me. Never will need pro
Sweaty try hards use the pro controller. I've been good at games since the Tekken 3, I don't need the pro controller. It's just an easy way for poor players to try to get an advantage. Yep, there's absolutely no way that people with different-sized hands and varying degrees of understanding of good controller design might just respond differently to the grip. _Clearly_ the answer is mob mentality.

absolutely, you ask 5 different people and you get 5 different answers on which control schemes they like and don't like
I agree it fits in my hands fine too
It fits fine other than my left thumb so personally I like it
It's my favourite way to play for more intense stuff. Otherwise I prefer one in each hand
I love the joycon grip
"Is it worth running out and buying one of these things?" No I would drive.

Lol. And but well then ;...
i would use the joycons but for platforming indie games like Shovel Knights or the Binding of Isaac. doesn't seem fitting for mario kart or spla2oon
Karl Faucher That's quite the opposite actually. The joycons don't have a D-pad so it's not the best fof platformers.
