You actually don't need to go through the charades of messing with the calibration of the analog sticks, you can just feel the straight edge of the gate and know you are in the soft drifting spot. Because it's not a circle, the edge is closer to the center than the 45 degree angle, so if you just feel a little bit under it you feel the difference and get perfect soft drifts without needing to mess around in the settings

Thank you so much Shortcat. I've been watching MK8DX guides from English speaking content creators for so long, and you're one of the newer (to me) ones I've recently ran into. My VR on MK8DX online is around 50K so I've been an experienced player for years, but the main question I was always asking is what is the best controller for soft drifting, because as far as time trialing goes for precise mini-turbos and other strats, there's no technique more important in the game than soft drifting and neutral drifting.... appreciate this so much. Still learning something new even after the DLC is over!
There's so much to learn in this game! 😊 For soft drifting, practicing with the pro controller will make you consistent at it too. If you get a GameCube controller, make sure you learn how to do motion glider for online!
You are the best Mario kart content creator, bar none. I’ve seen comprehensive guides and very long detailed videos on this game before, but you do it in such an accessible way I just enjoy watching the videos. Been watching for half a year now and honestly get excited every time you upload. Keep up the good work ❤
I still use Joy-Cons and while I am good at soft-drifting, it dire situations it can get messy or even in time trials. So, having this extra bit of consistency with the GC controller is great. Can only advocate for this reason alone to use the GC controller, tbh. no matter the skill level. You want consistency every time.
I don't main the pro controller, so I can't say for sure what perfect soft drifting muscle memory is like. But i have talked to pro players (some world record holders), and they have no issues soft drifting on the pro controller. Although these are people who play a LOT. For the average player, I can confidently say that soft drifting notches are amazing
I play mario kart on one joycon lol like I use the left side of the joycons bc I feel like it is smaller and you can hold it tighter since I have smaller hands
I used to think Melee was a really unique game because of all the crazy exploits and tech people have found over the years. But videos like these make me think that every game is just as janky, and it just takes a dedicated community over a long period of time to discover it all :D
Yeah, all games are full of bugs/glitches/exploits if the community is dedicated enough to find them xD (In a lot of ways its a hinderance though... Some games are considered super glitchy cause of this, even though a casual experience wont really interact with most game breaking issues)
This is one of the coolest in depth advanced tech looks into mario kart 8 dx that I have seen on TH-cam. All of this is so cool, and I would've never thought of any of it. Thanks for sharing!
great vid. I have used both pro controller and GC when playing mariokart. the only thing that keeps me on pro controller is that sometimes on a GC controller (particularly older ones), because the triggers are analog, when trailing an item, the game will just throw the item when you didnt release the trigger. in extreme cases, the controller can flicker between the switch considering the trigger to be pressed or not, and it will spam all your items away. its a rare occurrence, but this has even happened to Ludwig on stream when playing MK8DX, and you can see his confusion on his face when it happens.
I am by no means part of the MK community; I just watch a few content creators and cry about the fact that I don't have my switch with me (I will soon, just also need to cry about spending $60 as a broke college student). But I absolutely love seeing the references and support of other creators who also play the game. I had watched one of Rod's recent videos and he had made a reference to your specific content, then came here just to see you also using a clip from him. Great stuff. Keep it up!
I use a (officially licensed) third-party controller to play Mario Kart, one that lacks a motion sensor. I'd heard a little about input doubling before, but this is crazy. I wonder if I've ever used doubled inputs accidentally? Anyway, thank you for finally talking in-depth about your controller usage! After I initially heard you use a GameCube controller for Mario Kart, I took a look at it and have been considering buying one to play. Thanks for providing me with more info :)
Input doubling is super weird and I don't understand why it happens in the first place. There is even a difference in animation when soft drifting (check the Yoshi clip where I talk about bad soft drifting, the left Yoshi leans more, and so does peach in the next clip). So now I can go back and see which videos I recorded with doubled inputs, and cringe at the bad driving 😇
hey me too! I didn't know it wasn't official because Kirby was on it so I figured it must have been real. But yeah its 3rd party licensed. Works great but maybe I should look into an adaptor, my gamecube controllers are collecting dust.
Wow! I NEVER knew about this advanced gliding technique! I thumbed up this video because of how thorough it was in explaining it, along with how my favorite controller of all time has yet ONE MORE use, further cementing its status! Good job in explaining! 👍🏻 I wonder how this would work with the Nyxi Wizard... 🤔
having played this game with a gamecube controller before, i was almost certain the thumbnail was a joke. the ability to motion glider with the dpad and your clever soft drifting hack really change the game-i have to try this!
First off I REALLY enjoyed your way of explaining why motion glider is faster. Don't know if you've ever had a moment when watching a video where you go "Shit that's how *I* should have explained that" but that was it for me lol As far as which controller is "better" I think it depends 1. If you're a new-ish player it might be a bit complicated to set up a gamecube controller properly, but once you do it's clearly easier to learn the tech on gamecube than it is on switch 2. At top level I do actually think the pro controller is still better though, and that's because button remapping + --> L and Y --> R makes doing motion glider pretty straightforward with like 5 minutes of practice. I also think a lot of people will find it pretty awkward to take their right hand off the controller mid race. Not saying that this makes gamecube bad, just that I don't think it actually provides much of a clear advantage. And being forced to give up shake tricking really does hurt in enough circumstances that I'd say it's a pretty clear disadvantage 3. However I've gotta say this is an absolute GAME CHANGER for speedruns, because in a speedrun, pausing actually pauses the game unlike online where it keeps going, and so all of the benefits of motion controls are more than cancelled out by how long you spend in the pause menu. HOWEVER the fact that gamecube has no motion sensor means that we can play with motion controls on all the time without it screwing up our lines. This means that gamecube has actually unlocked motion controls for speedrunning, which is AMAZING, and almost certainly worth being forced to give up the ability to shake trick
Thank you Bayesic!! For anyone who doesn't know, this is the man I first learned motion glider from. 1. Yes, there are a few steps and it's possible to unknowingly mess it up. Especially accidentally having doubled inputs turned on. 2. For time trials, pro controller may still be better because of the greater range of inputs that are possible (dpad only lets you hit 8 coordinates). Also you don't need to take your right hand off the controller for gamecube controller, you just stretch your right thumb over to the dpad. It's pretty easy to do. Also as someone who uses the gamecube controller, I'm pretty sure I save more time on motion glider than the time I lose on missed tricks. I have not measured this though, and the difference would also depend on the exact distribution of tracks you play on. For example, competitive lounge players play some tracks way more than other tracks. 3. Awesome! I didn't even think about that. The difference here would be measurable, since in a speedrun you know exactly which tracks you're going to play on, and therefore the expected amount of time saved from motion glider, and time lost from missed tricks.
I originally played mario kart wii, and once i discovered the Gamecube controller it was my go-to everytime I played. It was cool to see it used for Mario Kart 8 and it sounds like it would be a lot of fun to revisit that controller in the current entry. Thanks for the great video!
My brother and I decided to buy GameCube controllers after watching this video. They finally arrived today and we love them! This video was so helpful and informative. Thank you so much!! 😊 Can’t wait to start wrecking people online lol
In case you all are wondering, if you REALLY like your controllers with rumble, you can plug the grey plug into the Nintendo Switch as well as enable rumble for system settings and the game you are playing.
I use a pro controller with a custom faceplate that has gamecube notches for soft drifting. This allows me to soft drift easier. I would like to always have motion gliding, but from my experience online, it doesn't make me win any more or less, so I enjoy the motion tricking for stability in my own performance :) If players are better than me they will still find ways to smack me.
That's a cool mod! Also I respect that decision, missing a trick can be frustrating. And that's true, the time saved from motion glider is not big enough to always matter. But the royal raceway shroomless cut saves about the same amount of time and I do it every lap anyway. And I do have several clips in this video where motion glider definitely mattered a lot. As with any small time save, it's more about the probability of it helping you, and also stacking time saves to ultimately be so far ahead that maybe you dodge an entire boomerang thanks to it.
This is an awesome video. I wasn't wanting to actually watch the video, i just wanted to see what you were talking about, but then i watched the whole thing. Great stuff
One nuance I would add that wasn’t mentioned in the vid is that you cannot re-map inputs on the GCN to turn on smart steering more easily. Smart steering is pretty useful on stages like Ribbon Road or DK Summit.
Don't even know how I found this channel. But I've watched a ton of your videos and they inspired me to play a bit online for the first time tonight. Got to 1500 and had a lot of fun. I will definitely never be at the point where I need to worry about what kind of controller I'm using but you're such a good presenter I'm watching anyway lol.
Ok this is good, I bought a Gamecube Controller a while back but I saw a Pro Controller and I thought my GameCube Controller wouldn't be good with 8 Deluxe. So thank you ShortCat for calming my nerves
Just FYI (admittedly something I imagine you've considered) for the soft drifting, a lot of high level Smash Melee players just have their controller filed down with special notches to hit certain angles consistently (firefox angles for recovery, wavedash angles for maximum distance). Obviously, this requires controller modding, which isn't for everyone, but I imagine a similar approach could be used for soft drifting to not need to reset the controller. Probably not super necessary, but figure it can be an option worth considering too?
Compared to controller resetting, the only advantage I can think of for custom notches is to get soft drifting on all 4 diagonals. With resetting, you have to pick between the up diagonal and the down diagonal. Most good players soft drift with the up diagonal, probably for comfort. To my knowledge, up vs down soft drifting only matters in 2 situations: 1. Throwing an item forward or backward while soft drifting 2. Sinking vs floating while soft drifting (for #2, I can only think of specifically big blue's last turn path switch, and piranha plant cove's first turn shortcut, both of which you would prefer to soft drift downwards) I guess having all 4 diagonal notches would be ideal, but I just aim above the lower notch whenever I need to soft drift downwards, which is almost never.
@@Shortcat321 Yeah that makes sense. I wasn't sure if it would be necessary (I definitely mostly play Kart casually, but enjoying learning more about game systems), but it just seemed like an interesting option after hearing about trying to hit certain points consistently. I can definitely understand it being overkill though.
Common misconception is that there is a single softdrifting angle. That's not the case. You want access to the full range of angles between 90 and 45 and notching would be counterintuitive to this purpose
I love seeing people put so much effort into optimizing techniques for a game that is known for punishing you very hard for being good or sometimes no reason at all.
This is really useful information. The way you go about explaining mechanics is very engaging and it's really accessible for people trying to get into competitive Mario kart. Thank you for all of the effort you put into your videos 👍
as a pro controller player, i might consider switching. but what’s funny is that at 14:30 when he was explaining why motion glider is sooooooo good, HE LITERALLY MISSED A TRICK LOL but either way, i consider your opinion very accurate because when i tune into a jpg stream (jpg uses a pro controller) almost every time i watch his streams, he messes up a motion glider and regrets it. obviously jpg is legions better than you, (no offense but he’s literally top 300 in the world) he still messes up because of his playing style so i find this video extremely helpful. PS: IM YOUR #1 FAN AND NOBODY WILL PROVE OTHERWISE
Wow I didn't even notice, that was funny haha. And no offense taken, it's simply true that he's much better than me. I do feel like my motion glider is pretty consistent thanks to the dpad!
This video convinced me to invest in my own GameCube controller for my switch! The game cube was one of the first consoles I ever played I probably haven’t touched one in 15 years!
5:40 Actually, you CAN disable motion glider after you finished the race. You had a few seconds (about 1 or 2?) to open the settings menu and disable it when you finished the race. Or you can click Y in the course selection to go back to the vehicle selection and disable it there (But of course, it's not optimal)
I do love using my DualSense controller for Mario Kart. It gets me the most consistent results. With the techniques I larned from your videos I'm almost at 10k VR. Have a good one.
Ohh my gosh my mind was about to explode with tremendous information jaja, I've heard about motion glider but I've never tried before for sure, sounds a little tough, tricky and rough, majority of my time was playing Smash Bros Ultimate with GC, but I couldn't have imaginated how complex mario kart is, I'll take into account what you said in this video, Thank you ShortCat for your research Nice video dude!
You did mention that Smash players prefer GC controllers, but could Melee-style controller mods help with Mario Kart? They use custom notches to get consistent max wavedashes or shield drops, this could make softdrift consistent without having to mess with stick calibration every time you plug a controller in.
Carving notches should work, but I'm not an expert on that. For the GCC the only advantage I can think of is to get soft drifting on both the up diagonal and down diagonal notches. The reset method only lets you pick up or down, not both. It matters for very niche situations like throwing an item, or floaty tracks where holding down vs up matters
As someone who comes from smash and is more comfortable with the gamecube controller anyways this is very helpful! Thank you for sharing things like this
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Mario kart pros in Japan are using pro controller because of mtja(mini turbo jump action). They charge a mini turbo in a trickable region and release the mt and trick immediately after. I think this is easier to do with shake tricking because the drift button is the same as the trick button and you can’t really press it that quick after a releasing a mt.
That's some insane p2w, kinda surprised I haven't heard about this more. Hitbox was mega controversial in the FGC until devs started putting in counter measures to make it fair but I've never even heard about his and MK8D isn't even some underground game either
Ideally we'll have a controller that can shake trick (maybe simulated by a button press), cannot tilt, has soft drifting notches on all 4 diagonals, and can motion input using the right hand. Until then, everyone is compromising anyway 😬
I have modified the triggers on one of my GCN controllers so they will act more like a digital trigger than the stock analog ones. It’s also worth noting that GCN controllers can be used with MKWii, MKSC (with Game Boy Player on the GCN), and MKDD, so if you play either of those games as well, you’ll be better off with a trigger modification. I just use trigger plugs, but if you want a true digital trigger in your GCN controller, you will need it modded on a hardware level. Sites like Battle Beaver offer these services, but they don’t come cheap. Trigger plugs and the appropriate screwdrivers are $20 at most, while specialized GCN controllers can cost $200+. Last thing, you don’t need a GCN controller to achieve motionless motion gliding. You can also just get a wired third party controller from Power A or PDP, and the results will be the same as using a GCN controller. Heck, it maybe even better to use a USB controller over GCN because the adapter does add latency. That, and some of these third party wired controllers may have assignable buttons on the bottom of the controller. Most of them have two if they have them, but I know the Fusion by Power A has four. That means if you have a Fusion controller, you can map all of the inputs of the d pad on the bottom buttons, and you don't have to do crazy shenanigans with your hands.
5:05 it seems part of mario kart wii's Dpad tricks (you'd do ramp tricks by pressing a direction on the dpad) for the gamecube controller and classic controller are kind of reappearing. 17:00 the grey plug is extra power for rumble, i'd say plug it in if you like having rumble.
something to note, everything that he said in terms of motion controls for the game cube controller is also true for a wired pro controller. I don't believe Nintendo officially sells those, but there are plenty of third-party sales.
Y'know the terrifying part is that I also play the same way you do with said GameCube controller but today I discovered the D-pad was the motion controls and that was honestly very unexpected especially for Mario kart. I genuinely thought it was just a useless d-pad but now I'm glad it has a use for gliding areas
Thanks to this video I decided to grab both my GameCube controller and my adapter, and gave all of this a try. The problem is, it's been so long since I last used my GC controller that I'm not used to it, so I tried using my Wii Classic Pro controller (which has the same joysticks as the GC controller) and 8BitDo's GBros adapter, and after a bit of practice I felt it was pretty comfortable! It's not as easy to "reset" the controller as you can't just reset it, you have to unplug and re-plug it, but once you get just the right angle it works really well and I honestly prefer it to the GC controller. Anyways sorry to write such a long comment lol
I like this new way of making videos using a more analytical view of the game. Also great video, didn't notice people were this sweaty to use a 10 year old smash controller🤣🤣🤣
I love the GameCube controller. I'm a somewhat decent Tony Hawk player, and I find it very good there as well. Having stunt buttons in a ring around jump is fantastic.
Been waiting for your upload! It didn't disappoint! And I admire how you found all this tricks with the controller lol. Must be lots of theorizing and experimenting. Appreciate you sharing it too xD.
Shake tricking is just too important to me. It's not just about being able to get consistent tricks on difficult tricking platforms (although that is especially helpful in wavy sections). It's also useful for consistently tricking as early as possible. As a side note, I remap my L button to X when playing with the pro controller because I always felt like it was really awkward to press X every time you need to look back. I use Y instead of A for accelerate because it's way easier to hold down Y + B than it is to hold down A + B for brake drifting, and it is completely impossible to hold down Y + B + X to brake drift and look in the mirror at the same time unless you remap to L. Even if you aren't break drifting, Y + X is a really awkward combo of buttons to hold down. I really recommend it, it's super nice!
As someone who plays smash bros on GameCube, I am fairly used to using a GameCube and even have used it for Mario kart. I once tried to motion glide on my own but the gyro sensor killed my motivation. Glad to know how to go gamer mode for Mario Kart
My family has a GameCube, so we are able to use the actual original GameCube controllers, which is great! (i dont have MK8D though because we already bough MK8 on the WiiU and havent felt like upgrading)
Phob GameCube controllers are a good third party option. Better than the Nintendo ones actually. It's an open source hardware project originally made for the Super Smash Bros Melee community to be able to produce high quality GameCube controllers while addressing the official GameCube controller's shortcomings. That said, they are expensive if you don't make them yourself but it's worth the price imo.
I've always used the GC for MK8DX; it just makes sense. However, it's a modded one without analogue triggers. Really need to get into this motion glider stuff.
My races are going to be dramatically improved now that I can consistently get tricks by shaking my pro controller like it's a wii remote. Brings me back to when pow blocks struck fear in us kids
I'm a Smash player who owns 4 original release GCCs and I bought two pro controllers just for Mario Kart because I wanted to motion control and thought pro was the only option. This video has upset my greatly, but I'm glad to know I wasted $120 😅

You are the best Mario kart content creator, bar none. I’ve seen comprehensive guides and very long detailed videos on this game before, but you do it in such an accessible way I just enjoy watching the videos. Been watching for half a year now and honestly get excited every time you upload. Keep up the good work ❤
Thank you!!!
@plipbloop2159 i COMPLETELY agree
I never knew you used a gc controller, I always thought you were so good that motion controls just didn’t effect you
I'm flattered, but in reality I cannot drive at all with real motion controls on 😂
I still use Joy-Cons and while I am good at soft-drifting, it dire situations it can get messy or even in time trials.
You ruined me shortcat I have the inability to drift like a normal humans only know how to soft drift but not regular drifting
I saw a video on game cube motion glider yesterday. I was like: "shortcat does this, why hasn't he made a video about this yet?"
saaaaame
Oh he talked about the video in this video, cool.
I used to think Melee was a really unique game because of all the crazy exploits and tech people have found over the years.
But videos like these make me think that every game is just as janky, and it just takes a dedicated community over a long period of time to discover it all :D
Yeah, all games are full of bugs/glitches/exploits if the community is dedicated enough to find them xD
(In a lot of ways its a hinderance though...
Good to know! This must be a faulty controller, or only the really old ones. I don't think I've experienced this issue myself
Keep it up!
Best mario kart TH-camr. I have learnt so much from your channel and it is still super entertaining. Everything you say is informative which I love!
Have you tried using motion controls with it with the dpad? Do you need to map that manually or is it set to motion controls by default?
@@NoName-ui5ou I have not! I'll test it out. The controller I use is not re-mappable though, sadly.
I swear you actually have the potential to be one of the best MK8dx players with all the knowledge you have
Meanwhile I didn't play Mario kart for 3 days to make this video 😅
having played this game with a gamecube controller before, i was almost certain the thumbnail was a joke. the ability to motion glider with the dpad and your clever soft drifting hack really change the game-i have to try this!
First off I REALLY enjoyed your way of explaining why motion glider is faster. Don't know if you've ever had a moment when watching a video where you go "Shit that's how *I* should have explained that" but that was it for me lol
As far as which controller is "better" I think it depends
1. If you're a new-ish player it might be a bit complicated to set up a gamecube controller properly, but once you do it's clearly easier to learn the tech on gamecube than it is on switch
2. And being forced to give up shake tricking really does hurt in enough circumstances that I'd say it's a pretty clear disadvantage
Awesome!! I'm glad you like it
In case you all are wondering, if you REALLY like your controllers with rumble, you can plug the grey plug into the Nintendo Switch as well as enable rumble for system settings and the game you are playing.
@Shortcat321 very true! You do always save great time in your clips! Thanks for responding man, I love your videos
Mad respect for using the orange GameCube controller in the thumbnail. That thing is nostalgic lol
Been using GameCube since the beginning actually about 4k hours on it lol, nice vid
ayy
This is an awesome video. I wasn't wanting to actually watch the video, i just wanted to see what you were talking about, but then i watched the whole thing. Great stuff
Thank you!!
One nuance I would add that wasn’t mentioned in the vid is that you cannot re-map inputs on the GCN to turn on smart steering more easily. Smart steering is pretty useful on stages like Ribbon Road or DK Summit.
Right, it's slightly slower to hit the pause button on GCC than a remapped pro controller button
Also mario with standard kart tires glider FTW
Ok this is good, I bought a Gamecube Controller a while back but I saw a Pro Controller and I thought my GameCube Controller wouldn't be good with 8 Deluxe. So thank you ShortCat for calming my nerves
thank you for validating me I've always preferred the gamecube controller comfort wise for mario kart
To my knowledge, up vs down soft drifting only matters in 2 situations:
1. Throwing an item forward or backward while soft drifting
2. Sinking vs floating while soft drifting
(for #2, I can only think of specifically big blue's last turn path switch, and piranha plant cove's first turn shortcut, both of which you would prefer to soft drift downwards)
I guess having all 4 diagonal notches would be ideal, but I just aim above the lower notch whenever I need to soft drift downwards, which is almost never.
Whenever I play Mario kart I accidentally used to do soft drifts all the time and I was confused this vid helped
Keep up the work shortcat
I love seeing people put so much effort into optimizing techniques for a game that is known for punishing you very hard for being good or sometimes no reason at all.
This is really useful information. The way you go about explaining mechanics is very engaging and it's really accessible for people trying to get into competitive Mario kart. Thank you for all of the effort you put into your videos 👍
And here I thought I'd never get to use motion glider because I main GC Controller. Incredibly helpful video.
as a pro controller player, i might consider switching. but what’s funny is that at 14:30 when he was explaining why motion glider is sooooooo good, HE LITERALLY MISSED A TRICK LOL but either way, i consider your opinion very accurate because when i tune into a jpg stream (jpg uses a pro controller) almost every time i watch his streams, he messes up a motion glider and regrets it. obviously jpg is legions better than you, (no offense but he’s literally top 300 in the world) he still messes up because of his playing style so i find this video extremely helpful.
I'm old. I was 6 when the Gamecube came out. I will always default back to it if I can when it comes to controller use.
Same! It’s just such a solid controller, I always want to use it.
I wanted to know how to do that yesterday and seeing you make a video on it is a HUGE coincidence :P
5:40 Actually, you CAN disable motion glider after you finished the race. You had a few seconds (about 1 or 2?) to open the settings menu and disable it when you finished the race. Or you can click Y in the course selection to go back to the vehicle selection and disable it there (But of course, it's not optimal)
hes referring to the rest of the current race, not the next race dummy
Yes, I was specifically talking about if you're not on lap 3
This only works in the top spots anyways
I love that you featured Bayesic in this video. He's a great guy who I know outside of youtube
Have you considered getting a custom gamecube controller with custom notches? That way you dont need to change the stick's calibration
I do love using my DualSense controller for Mario Kart. It gets me the most consistent results. With the techniques I larned from your videos I'm almost at 10k VR. Have a good one.
I tilt on a third-party pro controller because it feels nicer in my hands compared to two joy-cons and because tilt is funny
I was so curious about your motion inputs im glad you made this, it's also super useful
I was like “how does he always play with motion controls on?”
Ohh my gosh my mind was about to explode with tremendous information jaja, I've heard about motion glider but I've never tried before for sure, sounds a little tough, tricky and rough, majority of my time was playing Smash Bros Ultimate with GC, but I couldn't have imaginated how complex mario kart is, I'll take into account what you said in this video, Thank you ShortCat for your research
Nice video dude!
No way this is what Jperm has been doing all this time
Yup, it’s him.
I thought that too lol
Cubing J perm?! I thought it was him too lol
It's always a good day when Jperm uploads, no matter what channel
I think they definitely would. Notches for the soft-drift angles and trigger plugs for shorter trigger pulls (more comfortable imo)
Tactile Z button would be a good mod too. Forgot that one.
I was always so confused what the clicking was in the vids. Thanks for clearing that up! :)
Day 2 of asking Shortcat to play online Battle Mode in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Amazingly detailed video! This is, hands down, some of the best MK8DX content out there. Can't wait for the pro guide!
JPerm, that you?
I've been thinking the same thing! 😂
I thought that voice sounded farmiliar
As someone who comes from smash and is more comfortable with the gamecube controller anyways this is very helpful! Thank you for sharing things like this
did you get tired of cubing
JPERM i thought i was the only one who realized
ME TOO DUDE I'VE BEEN THINKING THIS FOR SO LONG
Lol
Me too
I thought he was gem from squid school
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Mario kart pros in Japan are using pro controller because of mtja(mini turbo jump action). They charge a mini turbo in a trickable region and release the mt and trick immediately after. I think this is easier to do with shake tricking because the drift button is the same as the trick button and you can’t really press it that quick after a releasing a mt.
There is a video on this called “hyper gliding in Mario kart 8 deluxe”
clearly you didn't watch the whole video
15:58
Shortcat your a legend for this I never knew you used a GameCube controller that way you always motion glide 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Video idea: face reveal at 300k
Soon we'll see that he's Jperm
Something makes me think he has chinese blood 🤔
i bet he'd look like my friend, dylan, he likes to do rubiks cubes
He seems like the guy to secretly do Rubik's Cubes
Just look at the channel Jperm and you will see his face
I want to thank Shortcat because I came back to this game thanks to these videos. Only problem: I play it on the WII U
Crazy how much tech skill mariokart actually has!
Me using an xbox controller 🗿🍷
am i slow? How? I tried to connect my controller via a wire but it didnt work
Prob a usb stick @@Unitdairy
Omg I was wondering if you had posted a video today, I check TH-cam and 53s ago, new video! Thx for your work, J Cat
I cant stop winning now. It was good doing business with you sir🎉❤
Oh my god, soft drifting was the secret sauce I needed to start shaking, thank you Cat 🙏
something to note, everything that he said in terms of motion controls for the game cube controller is also true for a wired pro controller.
This video was really interesting. I cannot wait for the advanced techs guide!!! Love the content Shortcat ♥️ keep it up!
That's awesome! I'm glad you found something that works for you 😊
I like how you uploaded this right as I was pondering buying a fresh smash bros gamecube controller and an adapter with the 100 dollar gift card I got
I like this new way of making videos using a more analytical view of the game.
Also great video, didn't notice people were this sweaty to use a 10 year old smash controller🤣🤣🤣
i just added gamecube remote to my christmas list tysm ❤
FINALLY I find someone besides myself who uses a GC controller (I don’t motion glide though, I just like the feel a lot more)
I love the GameCube controller. I'm a somewhat decent Tony Hawk player, and I find it very good there as well. Having stunt buttons in a ring around jump is fantastic.
i love how when using a game cube controller breaking something to be better is a must
YAYY! The average to pro guide!! Thanks alot Shortcat!
I really recommend it, it's super nice!
thank you jpe- i mean shortcat i will def use this when I play Mario kart next!
J perm 😂
As someone who plays smash bros on GameCube, I am fairly used to using a GameCube and even have used it for Mario kart. I once tried to motion glide on my own but the gyro sensor killed my motivation. Glad to know how to go gamer mode for Mario Kart
I just found out about your Mario kart channel. This is really cool, and I came from your cubing channel, and I was very surprised!
OH MY GOD! Shortcat's Nintendo Switch Revealed
This is really cool! I had no idea that older controllers could be used on the Switch
ShortCat is the literal reason why I’ve become a Mario Kart Pro. Thank you ShortCat
