Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Answers To Fela Kuti's Petition - Oputa Panel

  • Former President Olusegun graced the Human Rights Violation Investigation Commission (HRVIC) in relation to the petition of Late Fela Kuti.
He was questioned by Femi Falana (SAN), He(President Olusegun) said it were all fabrications that yakubu Danjuma asked that they get Fela Kuti Dead Or Alive and that He knew nothing about such ordeal.
General Olusegun Obasanjo In 1976 was made head of state in a meeting of the Supreme Military Council. Keeping the chain of command established by Murtala Muhammed in place.
During the dictatorship of Sani Abacha (1993--1998), Obasanjo spoke out against the human rights abuses of the regime, and was imprisoned for his participation in an aborted coup. He was released only after Abacha's sudden death on 8 June 1998.
Obasanjo took office as the first elected and civilian head of state in Nigeria after 16 years of military rule, is now commemorated as Democracy Day, a public holiday in Nigeria.

This is the very first time in Nigeria's history when a sitting president respected a summons to appear before a tribunal, even though he was not required by law to do so. Obasanjo attended this to show a good example to other Nigerians. So when you give Falana accolades, also reserve some for Baba.

Things like this makes people believe a little in the system and show that the leadership class aren't Kings. Things like this should be done often so as to educate young Nigerians on our government and democracy. Too many people are absolutely clueless about our system of government.

Have pity on a country where some few individual thought they are above others. The most powerful in civilised country as US, UK, France etc. Who are you not to be asked a mere question in the court of law? Arrogance of demi gods of Nigeria is overwhelming. Body language and utterances of the so called judge and defence lawyer tells how they all eat and dine together at night and deceive ordinary citizens by the day time. Only the separation of the ethnicities Biafra, Oodua Arewa etc. Nigerian can never be right.

When was the last time a president face or answer to petition.
    The gradual decay!
The legendary respected Oputa panel went dead all of a SUDDEN!

I applaud Fela's lawyer and Fela suing the government. Nigeria is in deep shit and will always be unless something is done. That country disgust me.

Good job Femi but Africa is always Africa...Though Obasanjo appeared in court but he tactically evaded some key questions to his disfavour...

Femi Falana has always played to the gallery to get the public’s adulation. OBJ has no business being on the stand for this case. The soldier or then ADC (now Emir) is alive. Why not call him to give evidence of what he allegedly said.
It’s sad to see Bola Ige working hard for OBJ only to end up being assassinated with or without this involvement of the same government.
