How Bola Ige & Funsho Williams were assassinated in the early 2000s

  • Two of Nigeria’s leading politicians, Bola Ige and Funsho Williams were assassinated during Nigeria’s nascent Fourth Republic in 2001 and 2006 respectively. While Ige was shot and killed in Ibadan, Williams was stabbed and strangled to death in his home in Lagos.
As a matter of fact, more than fifty politicians or pseudo-politicians have been killed since the return of democracy to Nigeria and the riddles surrounding their deaths remain unsolved to this day.
Political assassination is the intentional killing of someone, especially a public figure, usually for political reasons. Often, it is carried out by a person who occupies or wants to occupy a political position or someone who just wants to be in the public eye.
Our focus here is, however, on the deaths of two popular Nigerian politicians; Chief Bola Ige and Engineer Funsho Williams. We’ll examine them one after the other. #HistoryVille

I thank God that i benefited from his tenure as governor of Oyo State from 1979 - 1983. I vividly remembered being supplied 32 different textbooks and workbook free of charge in 1981 as a class 3 student. Thank you' the Cicero of Esa Oke.', an orator and master debater. His popular song then when addressing student at the Liberty stadium in those days as the governor was ' Ope lo ye o, Baba Olore
    Iyin lo ye o
    Olorun Oba
    Hossanna ye o
    O se o baba.
His address to the populace following his loss of gubernatorial election as candidate of UPN ( Unity Party of Nigeria- Egbe Imole) to Dr Omololu Olunloyo of NPN ( National Party of Nigeria) in 1983 energised the people to riot against the NPN( EGbe Onika kan - One finger Party) Candidate.

This reminds of a joke that Gina Yashere told about Nigeria. She said and I'm paraphrasing, Nigeria doesn't have CSI. If they'd did it'd be called Cannot Solve It. She said if you commit a crime in Nigeria, you will get away with it. That country is a joke. Lagos State doesn't respect the judgements of Federal Courts. The Executive doesn't respect the judgements of the Supreme Court. And they say they have a democracy. RIP Bola Ige. RIP Engr. Funsho Williams.

This is so touching and painful the way this two people were killed. I was still in Lagos then when funsho Williams was killed in a cold blood. He would have become the governor of Lagos state, if he was not killed, because he had already won the heart of Lagos Ian's then. The prime suspect was Tinubu and APC party, because tinubu wanted fashola to be the governor of Lagos state by all means, tinubu was the god father to fashola, and he was ready to do anything to make fashola become the governor of Lagos state. After funsho Williams dead, governor fashola became the governor of Lagos state. I believe Tinubu and the APC people killed funsho Williams. May their soul rest in peace.

For me what amuses me till now, is that 22 years of Thiefnubu's reign as the political godfather n emperor of Lagos state, still yet the people are lacking in electricity, pipe borne water facility, not a single metro train network in Lagos to help ease the traffics everywhere due to poor road networks. Most especially on Lekki/ Epe axis, mile2 badagary road. We cannot have no free education and free health for our children, which likes of Lateef Jakunde implemented in Lagos in the early 80s under UPN just in less than 4 years. Rather what do we get ia continous bad road with no drainages, no proper town planning for more roads, lack of reasonable cost effective quality education even for the under privileged, Agbero thugs are all over the place. Lagos became a megaslum, corruption in all facet of government in Lagos. Government cronies are used to grab land from the masses using state powers without due process of law, Toll gate extortion, illegal taxation going to thiefnubu's pocket etc. Shame!!! Shame on Thiefnubu, and the likes of them in Yoruba land who chooses to enrich themselves at the gross expense of the people. For the death of FW, Thiefnubu have not yet come clean publicly on that. How come nobody has been convicted for the murder just like many high profile murder cases in Nigeria. How can a country be progressive when it's stained with blood and series of injustices. What will such a person tend to achieve as president if elected in 2023 when he cannot even deliver development and good quality of life to Lagosians in 22 years 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @d.bcooper2271
      @d.bcooper2271 ปีที่แล้ว

In May 1966, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, Nigeria’s first military head of state promulgated the infamous Decree No. 34 of 1966, the “unification decree.” The decree effectively did away with the federal system of government practised by Nigeria since its independence from British colonial rule in 1960. In its place, the general instituted a unitary system of government as a way of discouraging “tribal loyalties and activities which promote tribal consciousness and sectional interests and which must give way to the urgent task of national reconstruction.” The decree suspended aspects of the Nigerian constitution and, with it, the military government arrogated to itself wide discretionary powers. Unknown to the general, the effects of this decree would reverberate well into Nigeria’s sixtieth year as an independent nation.
*_It's a tragedy to the fate of this nation that the Igbo person has been in denial about the problem they created for this country since 1966. Instead, they play the victim. I no longer debate Nigerians on this issue. It has served me no good_*

Tinubu used his private militia (NURTW Lagos) to eliminate Funsho Williams ahead of the 2007 governorship elections. Recall that Funsho Williams defeated Tinubu in the AD governorship primaries in ‘98 but was prevailed upon by the party exco to step down for Tinubu in order to compensate the latter for his contributions to NADECO and the fight to actualize MKO’s June 12 mandate. FW was to later decamp to the PDP and was a strong critic of the Tinubu/AD government in the early-mid ‘00s until his murder.

It is hard to blame them because Babangida had spent 8 years transitioning to nowhere, Abacha 5 years to no end, so decent professionals with verifiable backgrounds stayed away from the process. This allowed people with dodgy backgrounds and sketchy academic records who had never earned an honest living in their lives to get into the political space and have held us captive since then. Whoever is responsible for the death ☠️💀 of Bola Ige and Funsho Williams can not escape the judgement of God, for He is the only true judge that can't be bought over, neither can any SAN corner him with technicality, because He is the original law giver, for He says thou shalt not kill.
No room for SAN and technicality in His court, nor buying of time with frivolous application or medical certificate either. If the Nigerians police with the intelligence department of the state can't find their Killers, the heavenly police department, the angels are trust worthy, they will come out to show their Killers video of how they planned and executed the killing when they face God in His court room on the day of judgement.
