  • Build One South Africa says it has written to president Cyril
    Ramaphosa urging him to establish a national convention comprising all
    18 political parties in parliament.
    The party says this is in an effort to decide on the purpose, agenda
    and the scope of a new government of national unity.
    Party leader Mmusi Maimane dissects the proposal.

    The electorate gave this government a clear mandate. Representation in cabinet should be proportional to the vote. Anything else would be undermining the people's will.
    A three party coalition would have been ideal. The GNU is a coalition, after all. All these micro parties are overcomplicating matters.

      You think, a 3 party dispensation would have been ideal and continue the inequalities in the Western Cape.??? DA had 2 decades to right the wrongs of the past. THEY FAILED. ANC was given 3 decades. THEY FAILED. These 2 entities have their own interests, not the interests of the citizenry.

    why is there this obsession or pressure to elect a cabinet when there is still no fundamental understanding between parties... this is bad, people are just power-hungry

      The business of gvt requires Cabinet to be in place. Delay causes uncertainty and instability. The wider dialogue will be ongoing for many years and there will always be differences.

      @khaltsharivist365 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No so much of an obsession but a statutory requirement. Clearly laws will need to be changed to recognise the new normal going forward. It’s odd that the drafters didn’t anticipate that & make allowances for coalition formation given the voting system is proportional representation.

    You know what a convention of national parties is called? ... The National Assembly and it already exists

    • @orionentertainmentnews
      @orionentertainmentnews 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Not really. What he's alluding to is the convention to be held to discuss not debate, but for the ANC to outline plans/proper map of governance and what the GNU is suppose to constitute. The NA is not a platform for that in my opinion because it should be where all the MP goes to debate on issues that affects SAns and pass bills that will benefit SAns.

      @@orionentertainmentnewsdiscuss/debate it’s semantics. Political parties set up their stalls and people voted. Now a party representing the will of 40 out of every 100 should go and sit down with a party that represent 0%. A convention that includes all stakeholders like civic organisations, business leaders from SMEs & large, religious bodies and political players represented in parliament would make sense.

    I think Mmusi is a good person. But he is a bad politician. We already have two sides. He refuses to join a side. Then he proposes that Ramaphosa ask parliament to form this overly complicated "national convention" which seems to be the perfect marriage of his famed indecisiveness with his impractical idealism. This is why he never had much of a following in the first place.

    Most SA citizens are unhappy with the manner in which elections were allegedly unfairly conducted. Why are we ignoring that fact? There are many examples of failed negotiated settlements without a clear code of conduct, based on the Constitution and put local government to work first. People need services urgently. A civil unrest is not ruled out. Do something to prevent further Health risks for the destitude. PLB. Time ... sir, time!
