A minor homebrew variation by the DM (credit to Zee Bashew) would fix this - although that's assuming you can even find the needed mistletoe reagent in that entire region. Still doesn't solve a lot of the survival elements players would face in such a place. But by far the greatest threats appear when the party is traveling. It is never a good day when a Remorhaz decides to come up from beneath the ice. My own group was attacked by a stray one in the middle of winter just south of Neverwinter, and we lost a player character along with his magic items before it decided to head off after taking damage (50/50 on group wipe if it had stayed). For an unprepared team (read: most casual groups) such threats are usually fatal...

I'm assuming "rime" here is a double-entendre, since The Rime of the Ancient Mariner (in that sense, meaning more of a lyrical story) is also about being horrifically isolated in a hostile environment.
"rime" has 2 highly different definitions "frost formed on cold objects by the rapid freezing of water vapor in cloud or fog" and "a film or slimy coating". It's also a homophone of "rhyme". The spelling used for the Ancient Mariner is considered obsolete, but that doesn't prevent writers from using it in tongue-in-cheek ways like this.
@@Eowar Consider a character such as an old arctic fisherman. His beard, covered with rime (frost). He has left all old worries behind, and is consumed by his practice of fishing. I really hope they release a Monster Manual 2 soon. We've had so many new monsters added with the various new adventure modules. As someone who writes their own stories, I'd love to have those monsters to play with without having to buy all the models I won't use.
Horror stories in d&d are my favorite! I feel that encounters with truly terrifying creatures become commonplace in d&d. I hope this campaign brings that feeling of dread back to forgotten realms!
Spoilers for Drizzt books: I'm still hoping for the lair or that dead white dragon that Drizzt and Wulfgar killed is there. That'd be an amazing experience!!
