It's all the new/variant monsters they've talked about (and potential new playable races like the bears) that has me super-stoked about this book. I love having a menagerie of things my players have never encountered before, even if all I've done is reskinned something from the Monster Manual by describing something from the Monster Hunter games.
I like the theme of characters in Icewind Dale that have secrets, or are running from their past, players included. I plan to use the new Phantom Rogue subclass to enhance the creepiness... A former investigator from Luskan, he's going north to Ten-Towns looking for someone responsible for sending an innocent to The Carnival. Maybe some people have read the books, but "The Carnival" in Luskan is basically public torture...law enforcers torture and kill criminals while people cheer and boo them. The horror of witnessing an innocent be subjected to that treatment sort of made the Rogue a bit crazy...he sees that innocent soul everywhere. Literally. He always sees her in the distance. It's spooky. Gonna be fun roleplaying that with the party. Plus, it let's me flavor the Phantom Rogue's "Wails of the Dead" as the screams and depraved laughter from "The Carnival". Yeah...Luskan is a very bad place.
Can’t wait for Rime of the Frost Maiden! Looking forward to the DnD Block Party either, glad that you’re doing a feature too, Todd! I see a lot of my favorite channels on the guest list, hopefully you can get Jim Davis & WebDM involved too!
I love the concept of this campaign and can't wait to see how the handle the tone. I'm eager to play through this blind before running it myself. Also, that alternate art cover is just gorgeous.
It could be a werebear. Not to mention it would be cool to image a town full of werebear orcs who migrated from Many Arrows. Not a player yet, but I did hear about Many Arrows via a few wikis.

i mean, in a world where the gods are very real, turning it into a religious thing isn't that big of a leap. But actually sacrificing...that would be a leap.
@Zigatron01 i know, im a huge genasi fan but i could go for some actual elemental races with more ties to their element, 4e had ice genasi and i would love those to be a new race in this new book (genasi are not elementals btw, they are half genie's)

I don't think D&D does horror well. I mean, if you can fight/kill IT, than IT is no longer scary... Now CoC is a better alternative in that department. Not perfect, but better.
What about dying slowly, painfully cold and alone as your body begins to die while you retain conciousness and have the distinct pleasure of getting to feel each cell in your body crystalize and die prior to finally losing consiousness to the unbearable pain and hunger and loneliness and never waking again?
So nobody's gonna mention that going by the image Icewind Dale has a native population of Bearfolk?
Werebears are in the Monster Manual. I would think Icewind Dale would be the perfect place to find a Werebear NPC.

I NEED THEM TO BE A PLAYABLE RACE.
WereBears are the best kinds of Were’s!
That ice-locked shipwreck in the art has so much potential for creepiness
Yeah, it got some Dan Simmons' "The Terror" vibe. I really like that they decided to do a horror take on Icewind Dale setting.

Or maybe it's the location of a clue to find the National Treasure. Maybe an old ship pipe where you have to use the stem as a stamp
I love how the folks at Wizards like to acknowledge what came before. Some might call it fanservice, I call it respect for the work that came before.
There must be a remorhaz in this adventure!
This sounds like The Long Dark in D&D, fantastic
Love the idea of social norms breaking down and desperation taking over! Now that's good story elements

Going to play a cleric of Ulutiu in this adventure when my group gets its hands on it.

Was the Cold Blooded Killer Quest related to the shining?

Gus Fox a Bearbarian Bardladin ?

There better be a Wendigo monster in this product. It seems perfect for what they were going for

The game Darkwood gives off similar vibes. The npcs are great for ideas for this setting
Is it so cold there that even a goliath would need to be wrapped up?
that is why Sanity should become a core ability & fear works so much better with Sanity than it works with Wisdom.
Sanity is only good for certain flavors of game
Wouldn't sanity work off Intelligence? Like say high intelligence people tend to become more unhinged and have a disadvantage on Sanity checks.
