I've been learning this trick at the local snowdome and mostly got the first 180 part nailed when I ride into the trick switch. If I ride into the trick riding regular I really struggle to shift my weight onto the nose. I'm not sure why this is or if you have any tips on doing this in general about getting the weight over the nose for doing nollies? In the video you mention that you also prefer riding into the trick switch as it's more comfortable, is this because your back leg is stronger and more dominant? Just wondering what the reason is?
It's basically because just like how you have a preference to riding regular or goofy you also actually have a preference to which way you prefer to spin, clockwise or counterclockwise. Skiers call this easy or hard way, as they don't have bs or front side when it comes to spins. So for me I prefer to spin clockwise (when you look at me from above) which is why I hate spinning this trick nollie. However my left foot isn't necessarily weaker, for if I was to do the same trick backside I much prefer it popping a nollie off my left foot as, despite it being backside and this being frontside, I'm still spinning clockwise like how I am in this trick. Hope this makes sense!
Ha, it never occurred to me I might have a preference to the direction I spin, that makes perfect sense. I just assumed it was linked to whether you ride regular or goofy!@@malcolmmoore
I would practice a lot of nose and tail presses on both switch and normal. It has helped me a ton on getting confidence for putting my weight over the tail or nose
Yeah I struggle on the nose presses. No problem. on the tail though to the point where the tail has slipped out from under me a few times I'm getting the weight too far over it doing the switch cab@@JesseSarkkinen
@@Mani3878 Also, this might be obvious, but are you riding a true twin? If you have a directional board or even an offset stance, the nose will be longer than the tail and require more effort to press.
First time I have ever subscribed to anything in my life but this is the best coaching I’ve watched and I’m 55 and still learning. Great work Malcom 🙌🏾
Thank you so much for the incredible content! The way you break down the trick into incremental milestones each with their own tips helps so much. I can't do the full cab yet but I've been able to progress while feel safe and in control.
just what I was learning this past week...your timing is bonkers! this is really really well explained. thanks for putting in the work man. love your vibe & riding style
One of my absolute favorite tricks, I must do it at least a couple of times per run. Was feeling very confident this last weekend that I could get the 5 around... didn't go quite as well.
Great explaining! May I ask which board you ride (Lenght, name) and how tall and heavy you are? The board seems to be super soft (what I think is great). GReets
Hi Malcolm, I'm boarding between Kaprun Ketsteinhorn at 3000M and Zell Am See until the end of March 2023. I've got my carving going well, I'm switching 180 and 360 both ways after spending 3 days riding out of my comfort zone (Goofy). 2 problems, one is just actuall getting the jump done without catching the wrong edge and also starting my first Jumps of the small ramps and tables in the various fun parks and Saalbach's Nitro park. How do I overcome my total lack of confidence and go for it? In Kaprun, there is also an amazing 1/2 pipe which I ride right up to the edge, but this is only because I ride verts on the skateboard in the Netherlands. So, I think it's all about confidence.
Great explanation, you make it look so easy! I will have to work on the revert and switch riding first as it is always in the back of my head that I will catch an edge. Thanks for another excellent tutorial / video
Man, Thank you so much ! Your tutorials break it down so nice and step by step. The tip on pressing the nose into a rut is what helped me finally get one around cleanly. Even got one off a knuckle! They're addictive once you get. Thanks again !!
Please please show us more tricks to progress. Terrain here in my local small resort is very limited, so tricks are the ideal ones to practice Thank you very much !
Hello Malcom! I love you content and would like some help please. Every time I'm on black runs or very steep blues when I go onto my toe edge I pick up insane amounts of speed then I'm going across the fall like way to fast and not in control. I'm committing to the turn and trying to do it quick but even if it's quick i do a super fast half circle and I'm out of control. Trying to keep weight on front foot, use my knees and hips but still can't get it
I immediately recognized l'alpe d'Huez ! ❤❤ God I love this end of the day specific sunlight... such good memories that come up. Will be going on march. Can't wait
Cristal clear explanation! I just learned switch from your other video and I'm confident to try this one now. I like how you mention how you use your arm to switch the weight, never occured to me to make use of my arms to initiate that.
Nice video malcolm. I have short legs and really struggle making the board pop for anything. I'm 165cm and usually ride 151-153cm boards. Do you thigh it would be easier to pop the nose and tail with a shorter binding stance or longer binding stance (legs closer together or farther apart) does it matter?
EXCITED - Basic tricks video's are great! Please more of these. Also, curious if you've done a clip about dorso/planter ankle engagement and how those fit into the advanced turns tutorials (low cross under, etc). Congrats on the kiddo.
@Malcolm Moore, can you do a video on what we can do at home to practice our snowboarding technique and build muscle memory? No for tricks, just better body positioning, control, heel to toe switches, the basics. I live in the desert, so i don't get to go up and board often enough to pull a lot of your exercises together during the seasons.
Cool video Malcolm! I will learn this trick until the end of this season. For some time I’m already naturally doing the first half of the trick, so it should not be that hard to finish it. But the movement with the hand is something I might’ve been doing wrong all the time. Thank you 🙂
Thank you for pointing out how the nose pushing into snow to create lavage point, personally i have a mental blind spot that i cant do 180 because it feels like the nose will dig into the snow and cause me catch.
Can you do the same pop off the side of the Piste on a raise bank and land in the soft stuff on the other side? Also, can you show it in some deeper, softer stuff please?
Love some trick tutorials! Always looking forward to new videos. Hope the season holds up so I can practice more but it's already getting quite hot, fingers crossed for this weekend (I'll go to Ponte di legno/Tonale).
Neat trick, nice tutorial! What's the difference between a full cab and a frontside 360 popped from a nollie? Not sure if I understand the terminology.
A cab spin is supposed to be popped from a fakie (or switch nollie). When Malcom is doing the ones he mentions are uncomfortable with his left foot forward, those wouldn't technically be a cab spin for a regular ride, but a cab spin for a goofy rider. He's just showing off both. So basically, nothing other than the riders preferred stance.
Exactly as ZeeBone says! I come from skateboarding first, and a full cab is a trick named after Steve Caballero. He did a fakie (switch nollie) 360 and it became known as a Caballerial or a Full Cab. It is always a frontside spin off the switch nose, or fakie, end of the board. In snowboarding 'cab' has just kind of become normal language for any switch frontside spin. For instance 'cab 9' meaning switch frontside 900. For me however, a true cab, like in skateboarding, is popped off the nose whilst riding switch!
Yeah I mean they do the job, there's a bit of extra weight and obviously they cost more, but they do work. They're by no means any better than normal bindings but obviously you don't have to strap in with these, you get the step in functionality, so if you need that functionality then yeah, I think the supermatics are the best of the bunch! I have a couple of reviews of them on my channel that go deeper into them if you haven't seen those.
Hey Malcolm, off topic but whilst I was away recently I was thinking about binding angles and just though it would be cool if you did a video about different binding angles and show people how different angles effect your riding.
Hey Malcom, could you help with something, Beginner - intermediate level, flat sections thats also pretty icy, how do we not land on our face all the time ? One section on a great pist in Greece gets icy on a flat section
Thanks Malcolm. Can you do a video on how early intermediates who can carve blues cleanly should approach black runs? They are steep so carving isn’t an option at this skill level, so I think gripped turns are the way to go but I’m not certain
Great explanation. Snow looks mighty soft and powdery. Does this make a big difference compared to hard groomers? Noticed you are still with the supermatics, how are they holding up trough the season? (Thinking of getting them but read some reviews about people having issues with them/the mechanism)
Soft and slushy here, hard groomers would be fine, but icy wouldn't be the best. Supermatics are holding up fine, but that doesn't mean that other people's aren't failing, I can only speak for my own! When I'm teaching, which is typically 5 or 6 days a week I have them on and they do make my life easier!
Up until this video, I didn't know that move was called a nose roll! That nose roll move is also used as turns on steeps and moguls. If you believe it's useful, I'd like to suggest a video on nose roll turns for riding in steep terrain and moguls. A problem I have on steeper terrain is that when I do the nose roll, the back of the board catches on the hill. I'm probably not swinging the back end high enough.
Awesome. I've been doing this one since two months, just need to add more weight for more pop, add more speed and dare to do it in the fall line. Lezgo!

Really like your videos and one of the best tutorials video I could find online. One bad habit I’m working on right now is open shoulder especially on my toe side. Any suggestion or exercise I could practice to improve? Thanks!
Ski pole drill! It's in my fix bad habits instantly video, however depending on what you're doing an open stance might not be the worst thing. We can get fixated on upper body position when the thing that really matters is the board performance, they are both obviously linked, but don't stress too much about the upper body if your board is doing what you want it to!
@@malcolmmoore thanks for your reply. I’m not practicing open stance yet. Currently I’m practicing carving. And I realized as long as my shoulder is in the open position, I’m starting to skid the snow. And that’s why I’m trying to fix this issue.
Have you addressed how to Ollie (Better/higher) in any other videos? I feel like my not great Ollies are holding me back from a lot of the things I want to do.
Snowboard addiction has a good video on that, I'd also like to comment that boards have different stiffnesses, I borrowed a friend's powder board and all the tricks I know became much harder because it was less flexible. A springy board definitely helps with ollies
Malcolm this is awesome! Gonna try it this weekend. I noticed that doing front sides like you did, you always land on toe side (I think?) to not catch an edge. Any other comments/tips on landing position? Again, thanks!
I would go with landing on the toes, you can also try cab 5s but I've had a couple nasty edge catches on those when not quite making it around, the cab 3 is much safer!
Yeah, I have them on almost all the time when I'm teaching, they just make my life that bit easier. I teach 7 hours 6 days a week and they're perfect for that. I still use normal bindings too, but it's more that I just have the supermatics on one board, and my now bindings on another board.

I've been learning this trick at the local snowdome and mostly got the first 180 part nailed when I ride into the trick switch. I was up Mt Baker yesterday trying these!! 🤙🏽
Getting butters and riding switch a bit more.
Starting to come together 💪🏽🤘🏽
Nice, jealous of you at Baker!
Another great vid 👏 Props to your camera person too 💪
Thanks so much 😊😊 and I'll let him know 🫶🫶
Hey Malcolm! What's the place called where you are?
Alpe d'Huez France 🤩
@@malcolmmoore Cheers! Hope to catch up for a few lessons in manage to get there!
What size is the board ?
What is the board size compared to your hight? Is it better to have a smaller board for these tricks?
Yeah, I'm on a shorter volume shifted board here which is easier, but that's not to say you can't use any other board.
@@malcolmmoore awesome 👍 thanks man and keep them coming.
I'mma....go and hug the snow... 🤪
@@Jcndj818 sounds like you're probably over rotating your upper body into the turn or something then, difficult to say without seeing you ride though!
Great video and thanks for showing it both ways! Us goofy riders REALLY appreciate it!!
Thanks I got your back 😉
Are those the supermatic bindings?
Yes 😊😊
Great to see you back on the DADA!
Yep, love that board!
Я ничего не понимаю что говорят в этом видео, но вся техника выполнения прыжка на 360° показана поэтапно поэтому все и так понятно без слов👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Thank you ☺️☺️☺️
Malcolm this is awesome!
Top work as always MM 🎉
Cheers 🙏
Great as always Malcolm! Just an off-topic question, are you happy with the Supermatica 😊
Yeah, I have them on almost all the time when I'm teaching, they just make my life that bit easier. I teach 7 hours 6 days a week and they're perfect for that. I still use normal bindings too, but it's more that I just have the supermatics on one board, and my now bindings on another board.
great Video.
What board are you riding dude?
Amplid dada ✌️
I find doing this trick switch is easier to get air, when I do this regular I end up keeping the nose on the ground the whole time, but when I do switch it feels like it naturally pops off the ground. This trick is also fun to do almost the complete opposite way when I lift the back foot and nose roll going backside.
Yeah, can also be done backside, good work!
Gonna try this next week!
🙌🙌
Looks fun! Im going to try it this weekend
Hope it helps ya!
when he said "whoop!" i felt that
Casual Malcom slipped out there for a sec @ 1:56 😄
I wanna see you do it on a full camber board!
