Thank you for this important topic! This is something that I have started doing last season to prepare, and I have to say it worked somewhat! I did not need to learn from scratch and actually i was doing worse at the end of the week when i got tired and my wrong habbits overriden correct posture i was leaning and visualising trough your videos! Im doing the same this year, really trying to understand how to shift my weight and lean into turns and stop wigling with my back foot just like you showed in your previous video! I will give it a proper try, even though i dont know 100% how to do it right yet. I will force 1st person view from now on! Will appreciate your footage with some guidance on stance and feel so we couls replicate!
I always visualise tricks I’m learning, it helps with convincing your mind that you can already do the trick. Combine with a tramp board and balance bar and trampoline and keeping fit and strong all year.
This is spot on. As a former high level ice hockey goaltender I used visualization as an extremely important pre game tool. I’ve used it in my riding as well to an extent and found it super helpful. Great content!
@@malcolmmoore It’s great that you did and it makes a ton of sense. There are a bunch of excellent Snowboarders making TH-cam content, however, you’re the best in my opinion at actually instructing. From your production to your instructional techniques and explanations, you boil it down in ways that just make a ton of sense and are easy to remember when you take it to the mountain to actually practice and employ the skills. Keep up the great work!
I am impressed: its 3 weeks i visualize some movements while i have free time and i mimic balance shift in working time, because i know that visualization can improve skills out of the real expierience. I hope for good snow in the next november in Italy. I am impressed because i forgot 9 months ago i learned it here ;) Thx a little late ahah
I used to do this all the time with surfing and I never figured it was improving my skills. After seeing this I'm definitely going to apply this to snowboarding now and other things as well. Fantastic video.
Great video as always! I took a ten year hiatus from snowboarding until last season. Visualizing the stuff I used to do really helped me get that muscle memory back.
Definitely some great techniques, the mind is more amazing than we think.. I think therefore I am. I believe the reason I progressed so much being my 1st time snowboarding last season is because of Visualization. Thanks Malcolm.
That's another level, so well explained, thanks, the visualization and overall body feel, seems to always been an issue while watching your instructions, can wait to see them form your pov camera, kudos to you!
i love visualization. has helped me tons for tricks that dont make sense to me right off the bat. have used it for skateboarding a lot with flatground tricks as well
You back awesome, i used visualization after i saw your first beginner video (Lever Technik and when to twist the board when u make turns) when i was working , when i went on the slopes i was better prep pert to go down the hill and get down the hill with out catching an edge, helped me a lot , so get down the mountain in one pace. can u make some more beginner video in the season don't want to see the old stuff over and over please and thanks.
Wow Malcom! What an absolute killer vid and topic! It’s something you hear talked about a lot but seldom covered in TH-cam snowboard videos! Thanks for the crash course and a great overall breakdown on how to apply it.
Great to see you back Malcolm. I see you were riding the Dancehaul in Gold. I bought the same board two years ago, wasn't a fan. Edge hold wasn't great. I've sprung for the Capita Mega Death, Bloody expensive so let's see. The visualisation video you have done is excellent. I replayed the fakie cabside 360 you were doing on the slope and then closed my eyes. All good but the problem I have is when I try to sleep tonight, I will only be thinking of that, so thanks for that:)
My friends were very impressed by how quickly I progressed in snowboarding the very first days. The thing is that inconsiously I did lots of visualization, which helped me incredibly
Good video. It's the same thing that athletes do when they are about to compete. They visualize their movement when they are doing it and how they are doing it. It's the same I've been doing while not being on the snow during off season. Basically visualizing what I did right or wrong.
visualization is key to me ! I only started snowboarding last year, and on my first run i fell 2 times, but the other ones were really smooth and i managed to get a nice run with quite a good speed! ( of coursei don't have the perfect technique but i was really pleased). I used to skateboard a lot and wakeboard so i think it helped, But watching your videos + other ones to learn before hand was really beneficial for me and really helped!
Great video, thanks! I try to use visualisation, but sometimes my inner-saboteur remembers a fall and I end up visualising that instead... and guess what happens!
Hey Malcolm, loved this video!! been trying to visualise riding (toe heel toe) and practising 180s in the gym for the last 5 mins this summer. I will try to start labeling things and use no go pathways!
I grew up as a gymnast in the early 90’s, and visualization is a fundamental and necessary part of the sport. When I saw my first snowboarder magazines in the mid-90’s - I daydreamed for years what it would feel like to fly through the photo frame images of those magazines - Peter Line was my favourite to visualize by far. When I first stepped foot on a snowboard in 1997, this might sound crazy, but I really didn’t have to even learn how to ride - not that I was riding like a pro, but I could turn and carve almost immediately just because I had spent so much time just daydreaming about what it actually would feel like. When jumps get bigger, and the consequences of failure mean major injury or possible death - visualization is mandatory. If you can’t visualize yourself completing the entire trick in your mind before trying it, then your chances of success are pretty low.
@@malcolmmoore definitely makes me nostalgic for the days before the internet- I’m Canadian and the first time I ever recall seeing snowboarding on a screen was when Ross Rebliatti won Gold in Slalom at the 1998 Olympics… I was so mad that they chose to represent ‘snowboarding’ to the world with slalom, when 99% of riders hated slalom🤣 Now I’m 40, and realize I’m quite old in the sport now. Can’t believe I first stepped foot on a board over 27 years ago when I was only 13!
Has someone been listening to Andrew Huberman by any chance ;) (Just as I finished typing this, you plugged his podcast 😆) Great video!! I am so insanely excited to get snowboarding again at the start of next year! I broke my collarbone at the end of my first ever week of Snowboarding, and despite that I got completely hooked!
Hello Malcolm, always a pleasure looking at your tutorials. You got me into snowboarding by watching you over the last 3 years. I am looking for a second snowboard for carving and all mountain and noticed you used Amplid dada and loved it and now stranda. Any advice as I’ll keep my orca only for powder days. 1m75 and 75 kg, 40 ich years old and in good shape. Thanks
I am loving the Stranda, if you don't have big feet though you don't need to go down the volume shifted route. Nidecker thruster is great for carving, it was just a little narrow for me.
Leave it to Malcom to bring academic explanation into a snowboard video. Really cool and very good info, man, thanks! On another note, I see you rode the Dancehaul after a long time. How do you think this board stacks up agains the other, newer boards you have (such as the Amplid)?
I am in the fortunate position to get sent new boards these days, but I do like to jump back on my old ones now and again! Dancehaul is great for sure though, I love the amplid but it's pretty beat up now, and my new board I'm riding alot now is the Stranda Biru, which is kind of like a more aggressive dancehaul!
Can I visualize myself standing perpendicular to the slope 😁? I am a old beginner, I started at 50 and I find very hard to teach my body and my muscles to relax and move the right way across the board. and obviously one of my most common mistake is to lean on my back foot. What can I do? Hypnotism? Psychotherapy? 😅... anyway, thanks for your great videos. I worked as much as possible on the imaginary hand-knees levers and I find that exercise very useful
I found myself getting better on guitar this way also I would be able to smash skills I struggled with prior too the dreams I would have about playing guitar it’s so bizzare
Wow…Malcolm is getting really technical on explaining some good snowboarding techniques…..I love it.
Thanks!
THE 1st PERSON POV is absolutely a killer idea!!!!! Can’t wait for more 1st person footage!!!
The gorgeous yellow Dancehaul. Thanks for the advice and free entertainment for those of us with and without snow.
I’ve always called it mind surfing! It works for all board sports 😊

Awesome, yeah it's been used in sports for a long time, so I wanted to try and cover it with relation to snowboarding!

Awesome video Malcolm! Last season ended prematurely after hitting a tree, so this will come in handy for the upcoming season.

He's great, getting so much from his podcasts!

😂😂😂
would love to have a video on riding through moguls/terrain unweighted turns
have you made a video about how to manage your speed especially in steeper terrain

I have aphantasia! what should i do???
I'll be honest I had to Google what that is, I would consult your physician before me I think!
Would it be possible to "conceptualise" the tricks, where instead of seeing them i just think about the steps and how to do them?
