I do wish some people looked at Brandish without always thinking about Undertale and Halloween Hack in mind, but I’m just grateful that it’s even getting attention at all
If we could play these games, then they would probably have a more varied reception.
@@benevolence4246 Brandish 1 and 2 are available in English on SNES so you can easily emulate them. The original games can be played on a PC98 emulator, but to my knowledge only Brandish 2’s PC98 port has an English patch. I’ve also never played the PC98 games so I am not familiar with how to emulate them, but I heard it’s complicated. The first Brandish game got a remake was released on PSP as well, and that’s in English too. It’s definitely the best way to play Brandish 1. So try searching up for “Brandish the Dark Revenant”.
Brandish is a pretty great series and REALLY needs a remake (Or a switch online port at the VERY least)
If Varik is supposed to be Ares from Brandish, then Megalovania being alternate Gadobadorrer makes sense.
Varik is actually Varik lol.
It's his name in the English version. He's Ares in Japan, and Varik in English.

im 99% sure what really happened is that toby tried to arrange this song in ebmused for the hack, but he kinda goofed up the riff, but it sounded really cool anyway so he rolled with it then built an original song around it
my evidence is that 1. its not the only brandish 2 song in the halloween hack, and 2. thematically it makes sense since you play as varik in the hack

I can’t hear megalovania, despite hearing it many, many times, I cannot hear the funny skeleton music. All I hear is brandish music.
@@LolaTheGardevoir it's in the beginning, it doesn't hit the same notes, but it does hit a low note, a high note, go down in the middle and end close to there, just like megalovania

It took a ROM Hack of an RPG to bring me here. Brandish sounds fun, I wonder if it's available to play somewhere.
The first game is available on PC, SNES and PSP. The PC version is the best one but only the PSP and SNES versions are in english (between those two I recommend the PSP version because it's a full remake made for PSP, while the SNES version is a compromised port of the PC version). The second game is only on PC and SNES, but both versions have a full fan translation. 3 and 4 are only on PC and have no english translation

Does Nihon Falcom has any plans of remaking Brandish 2? I really think the Nintendo Switch would be the perfect platform for that, I really hope to see that someday.

@@AWACSblue but that's for Brandish 1 mate. Dark Revenant for the PSP was very good, but Brandish 2 is a masterpiece. I really wish that Nihon Falcom releases a remake for Brandish 2 as well, and the Switch would be the perfect platform for that.

I still hope that even if Falcom has completely lost faith in the Brandish IP in terms of sales compared to their other titles, that they'll at least port Brandish: The Dark Revenant to PC and current platforms as it is still stuck on the PSP.
Happy 31 years to the game that inspired The Legend himself to create one of the best final boss themes in gaming history, and to the true original Megalovania: Gadobadorrer.
