Combining Lavos and Chrono’s leitmotifs makes it really sound like a climactic confrontation between the two, there are even points where you hear Chrono’s theme, only for it to be drowned out by Lavos. Great storytelling from just the music by Mitsuda.

I've listened to possibly every cover of this song. That brass section at 0:34 has never been replicated to justice. Crazy how the real instrument itself cannot satisfy my ears more than this 16 bit rendition.
that's so true! I've been thinking the same thing. I'm not sure what it is about the 16 bit original trumpets that just do it for me in the way much more high quality remixes with a higher quality trumpet sample just can't.

The three gurus being the three wisemen for instance, or Magus's henchmen being named after certain high profile rock musicians. So there's probably quite a bit of thought to this. FFVI's legendaries like Kefka's immortal "Son of a submariner" have the same origin.
Bringing Magus into Black Omen and then on to Lavos makes this theme so epic, it’s mandatory. Not necessarily from a gameplay standpoint but from a story (unique dialogue) perspective. And then bringing Glenn/Frog in for the techs is the logical choice for the last slot.

And the fact those 3 are the ones with the 3×/4× dmg solo skills. I forget frogs, but hes a duo/trio kinda guy. Ayla has the drill kick, i think? And crono has confuse, it does like 360% dmg

So beginning is 1999 Lavos theme, then progresses into 1000 the triumphant sounding part, then transitions into 600, 12000...but I'm having a hard time getting the 65,000,000 part located lol
