My former German teacher in high school, plus my sister's girlfriend's German teacher in College has said so. Plus my Opa who is Danish has told me that Icelandic is a mix of old German and Gaelic. I am Pagan/Wiccan and I am half Scottish plus I have 1/4 Irish blood coursing through my veins. Don't accuse me of not knowing the TRUTH about my culture. The moral of the story of this song, is supposed to be that when someone writes something that hurts you, writing something in addition is not good enough to heal. What was written wrong must first be erased, and then the new writ wrote.
No, you're certainly on the right track. Old Norse and modern Icelandic are very close cousins, indeed. Gaelic might share some common roots waaaayyyyy back in the past at the Indo-European level, but Old Norse doesn't really owe much to Gaelic.
I have no idea what is being said but when I first heard this song was when my dad was dying. It made me feel a strange sense of peace and for that I thank Faun for creating such a beautiful song :)
