That entire 85 bears defense should be in the hall

Gary Fencik a CLASS guy …..
Back in the early 80’s I attended my little league baseball awards banquet. A player from the Cubs was supposed to be the guest of honor. He couldn’t make it to the banquet so football player Gary Fencik showed up so we could meet with a celebrity. I’ll never forget that, he had the heart to attend so all of us kids would not be disappointed. 45 has always been total class…..

As someone who watches every HOF induction- I value all of the stories, how does someone become that great? The speeches. This by far is the most meaningful induction. How many times does this happen posthumously.. and the one honored isn't there to get his flowers. Had to hear this on your podcast as we grew up on your voice. The Bears from that era know and respect you- in a way we all grew up together, at Uncle Terry's knee... hahaha! Be well Dan MACnnnneil

I was lucky enough to work for the Bears in the Summer of '85. I was a junior in HS and my little league baseball coach was the assistant equipment manager for the Bears (soon to be Equipment Mgr, losing the Assistant part). I did a bunch of odd jobs up at the old Halas Hall in Lake Forest. Painting the tackling dummy sleds, folding laundry, etc etc. Got to see players who were trying to make the team and who got cut and the 2 holdouts (BIG mistake), We had a "Wall of Shame" with the jersey name strips of the guys who got cut. Went out to lunch with Van Horne, Bortz, Hilgenburg, Tom Andrews, Andy Frederick. (oh I got stories). I got shot by a pellet gun by Walter Payton in the dressing room as he loved to mess around and have fun. Saw Jimmy Mac daily. Saw the Fridge naked...don't recommend that. Best summer job ever......oh and they have not won another Super Bowl since I worked there, so obviously I was intregal. Congrats #76

Plank and Fencik ... The best DB combo in the history of the Bears. They use to levitate and leading with their helmets 1st when tackling (the reason the NFL outlawed spearing). I still visualize all the viscous tackles they made.

Keith Dorney, former offensive lineman for the Detroit Lions, has told me privately that he hated going up against Steve McMichael. Plus, he wrote about it in his book.

Fencik said the only quarterback that a team lifted up to win a Super Bowl instead of the other way around was Dielfer what about the quarterback you and your defense lifted up. No shade on McMahon he was a very good player but not a great one especially in the realm of all time quarterbacks( and yes I know health) played apart. I’m just saying. Justin shows the guts and has the respect of his teammates a lot like Jimmy Mac did.

McMahon could also read defenses, call plays and shift protection at the line of scrimmage, make plays with his arm and didn't take unnecessary sacks.

McMahon brought the whole team up. He was a true team leader, maybe only could've been the case with that team. He was out when they lost big playoff games, they probly would've won another one or 2 had he been healthier

Like Fencick said, he would draft a Quarterback. He doesn’t think Fields is good enough to go to the next level.

I know this is supposed to be a celebration, but it pisses me off that all of these leagues, NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLB induct these players that should’ve gone in long ago, they all of a sudden decide to induct these players in the hall either posthumously or while (like in McMichaels case) stricken with a debilitating disorder/disease to the point where they can’t fully enjoy it. It just pisses me off why these player like WR Cliff Branch, he should’ve been inducted long ago into the NFL hall of fame, but NO!, the NFL waits and waits and waits until the poor man passes away, and then they elect him. It’s pure BS!!!! F-pro sports!!!!!

Mongo is Bears royalty just like Hester. Fencik is wrong on the qb thing.

Jesus H christ - I love Danimal, but his struggles/inability to articulate concisely, renders far-too-prolonged responses & makes him a terrible guest!
