    Interesting story: 1911 had an unusually hot summer and a mild winter. You would almost think that the climate changes naturally.....Great work!

    Ben, congrats on your upcoming job opportunity... says a ton about the high regard your company values your contributions and your ability to take on additional challenges. Really enjoyed Nora's discussion re "The Ice Berg". Extras like this set you apart from the "here's my model, and here's how I build it" crowd. I realize that these Extras take considerable time to research, present, edit, etc but they are MUCH appreciated.

    Great to see you working on the Titanic again and it looks amazing. Life has an uncanny knack of getting in the way of your hobbies but don't let it worry you, you'll finish this soon enough. Best wishes for the New work trips I hope all goes well for you. Best wishes to you both from NZ.😉

    Ben, very nice job. Still love the modeling and the building parts, like you commented on, but just seeing some stuff already added and then building the Second Class entrance seemed to be a good combination. I agree with @Jim Elchek, below, when he comments about the "extras', like the ice berg. Cool stuff. Good luck with your new assignment. More "Notebooks from the Road", it would appear!

    The 2nd class entrance is missing the mystery box at the front starboard. No one knows what the box is for and it was mentioned in Peter Davies-Garner's book.

    Great work!
    I am glad you did a CV-6 video (that's how I found you since there is no video about it) I am currently doing queen mary 2 from revell. I am not to keed on doing that model on super detal rather to train on it. I am doing lights for it and I have a question, you used glass fiber? or plastic parts for the hull windows, at the moment I am thinking on leaving the window holes not drilled, so the light passes through on thinner plastic or doing the proper way with drilling, but that leaves me on a dilema how to do the windows properly (and the ammount of drilling and scribing looks quite scary :D ) The windows have to be flush to the hull right? my hull is already painted...

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not do fiberglass. I used clear plastic rod for each window. We have a video in the Titanic series on this. Yes, it takes a looooonnnnggg time to drill out each window. And even longer to install the fiber optic pieces. But in the end it looks great!

    Hey Ben! As usual, I continue to be amazed at the level of painstaking detail you put into your work. AAAAND as usual, I have another nooby question for you. I am about to finish a 1/350 USS Turner Joy and want to give it a matte clear coat. Do you have any recommendations for a matte clear coat that I can use with an airbrush? I am partial to the Tamiya paints but I would venture outside my comfort zone based on your suggestions. Or should I just go for the canned stuff. I feel like the canned stuff wouldn't give a nice even coat.
    Thanks in advance
    Bryan

      I can’t remember which brand I have, but you can use any flat clear that’s in a bottle if you’d like. I wouldn’t hesitate to use Tamiya in the rattle can, though. Just set it in a cup of really hot water first to warm the paint up. Shake it well and it should spray just fine.

    Really nice Job.can you tell me what PE-Parts you are using for the Windows?

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are from the KA kit. The stock kit PE parts are the same except slightly thicker.

  • @AndyHuotCreations
    @AndyHuotCreations 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ben, I messed up on my forecastle. I have the KA kit and scale decks decking. I somehow filled in the feature that accepts the forward mast and installed the deck over the top. I haven't glued it to the hull yet. Any suggestions on a fix? Maybe I can just drill a 4.5mm hole?

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to drill it out. Unless you filled it with something crazy.

  • @AndyHuotCreations
    @AndyHuotCreations 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ben, what do you use to adhere your printed paper tile patterns to the styrene? I was thinking spray adhesive or glue stick but would hate to see it curl up in the future. Maybe Gorilla wood glue?

  • @markpullen326
    @markpullen326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video as always Ben. Titanic is coming along nicely. One question though. Was the omission of the wooden deck on the top of the 2nd Class Aft Entrance deliberate? Looking forward to the rest of the build. Happy modelling.

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I’ll have to go back and see if it “should” be there. But I don’t recall it being there. I’ll double check though!

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, I doubled checked my reference: "Titanic Ship Magnificent Volume 1" page 204 and I do not see a wood deck installed on Olympic in that location. However, in plans that I have for the ship, it calls for a pine deck to be installed there. I've noticed modelers go both ways on this. I personally think it was omitted. That is a very low traffic area and passengers would never be up there.
      Since you pointed it out, however, I have asked my client what he would like. I can still easily add it at this stage. Thanks!

    • @markpullen326
      @markpullen326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMidwestModelShop As far as I can tell, it should be there. I have Titanic: The Ship Magnifcent, but can't get to it at the moment. Titanic: A Model Maker's Guide by Peter Davies Garner shows it and the deck is included in both the Pontos and Scaledecks sets, but curiously enough, it is absent from the KA set. I have the Pontos and KA sets and have just gone through both. You will get to the bottom of this. Model on.
