The Rays are the one team where I'm never surprised where they're at in the standings, like if they're at the bottom of the East it's like "Yea okay, makes sense, they don't have a lot of money" If they're in the middle it's like "Yea okay, they've got some young guys that are still figuring it out." and when they're on top it's like "Yea okay, makes sense, they always get a ton of value out of the guys they run out there." Tampa is inevitable.

heres the thing about that Archer Trade. us Rays fans wanted Archer gone, because we knew he was mediocre. so the fact that a team out there was so blind to that, and overpaid by THAT MUCH is what makes the trade so much worse. Archer was a glorified reliever with a 2 pitch mix

The criticism of the Pirates end of the Archer trade isn't unfair at all. Glasnow/Meadows/Baz have already put up a combined 12-13 WAR for the Rays, and all three will still provide value for years (with Meadows swapped for Paredes). Meanwhile, Archer gave the Pirates a measly 1-2 WAR. Archer would have had to pitch like an ace for this to have been a fair deal, which he never was. Really one of the worst trades in recent memory.
Yeah, it comes down to 1. that Pirates team was not THAT good, so investing in them as a sort of 'one piece away' team was not a smart move on that FO's part, and 2. even if they were better, Archer was on the downside of this career at that point and so was not the pitcher they should have been going for. They made a bad decision and then used that to justify making a worse decision, can't really praise a front office for that imo.

There was a 3 team trade in December of 2018 that you didn't mention in full between the A's rangers and Rays where the rays got Emilio Pagan and Rollie Lacy. Jurickson Profar headed to Oakland and the rangers got Brock Burke Eli white Kyle Bird and Yoel espinal. Pagan and Burke came out and the two best pieces in the deal

Although saying Glasnow has never thrown 90 innings for the Rays would be correct (56/55.2 split for PIT/TB in 2018). He also did come close in 2021 with 88 IP. All this according to Baseball Reference

The Tyler Glasnow to the LA Dodgers for Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca is helping both teams. Luke Raley to Seattle for Jose Caballero has worked out well for the Rays so far. The one trade we don't know how it is going to turn out is the Manzardo-Civale exchange. Civale has been good for the Rays, but we don't know about Manzardo yet.
