Fun fact: Gary Sheffield told the Dodgers to buy him a house for 3 million dollars for him to waive his no trade clause. He wasn’t happy about leaving no state income tax Florida for high tax state of California. The Dodgers agreed and bought him a house.
Not just that, he also told them to pay his taxes for 1998 as well. He only even considered waving his no trade clause as a favor to Charles Johnson. Definitely drove a hard bargain.
You know it's a Jolly video because at 15:27 when he shows the standings, there is a Gold Star next to the Mets, indicating he has saved them on that particular device as his favorite team.
Yeah we have an insane trade history. Even when you narrow it down to since I really started following in 2012 (my parents are OG fans, and I’ve watched them my entire life too) we’ve traded: Stanton, Yelich, JT, Ozuna, Zac Gallen (for Jazz), Luis Arraez, Jon Berti, and much more.
@@highlyglobal Funny enough, Jon Berti was invaluable when he was here Loved him and Garrett Hampson as utility guys, but of course, we can’t have good baseball in Miami if it’s not the WBC or the Caribbean Series.
I’m still a die hard Marlins fan but I have adopted the Cardinals as my other team since moving to St Louis. So thank you for making this video! Makes me sad all the trades we have made especially the Miggy one
So many awesome names have gone through with the Marlins. The thing I remember best about the Fish from the 90s was no matter how bad they were at times, they ALWAYS played the Braves hood. They had Atlantas number
As a native floridian the amount of hall of famers we had and just gave away infuriates me. I pray to God that one day he lets me buy this team and ill publicly say how terrible the past owners have been and change the franchise back to teal and black
As a Cub fan, there needed to be a warning before that NLCS Game 6 footage... But what is actually kind of weird to look back on (and I'm sure will be addressed in Part 2) is although the sabermetrics would probably show these deals working against the Marlins, they still found ways to win and it was ironically them finally choosing to stand pat with expiring contracts which led to a prolonged demise with top talent leaving with no return. You can certainly ask how the team would've been with Piazza remaining more than a week, or Johan not being traded right after the R5 draft, but how quickly could they have reloaded by trading Beckett/Burnett/Pierre when they had the chance?
What truly baffles me and saddens me at the same time......is that this team has so many richest throughout its history and has so much toxic vitriol madness within the organization. No wonder why the city of Miami no longer truly cares about them when you have multiple different ownership groups dismantling promising contender teams 5 times throughout its history.
Wish I knew you were doing this. I had done weeks of research on this building so many trade trees because I wanted to make a video. I woulda given it all to you lol
You see that score in the Ed Yarnell Yankees clip? The yanks were winning 21-1 when they brought in Yarnell. That's a pressure packed situation. I hope he was able to hold onto the lead.
Seeing a young John Henry in that hat explains everything i never knew. As a Red Sox fan I can't stand the man as a owner. Yes he puts too much money in other endeavors money he makes from the Sox. But that's not my biggest issue no. Now its could you yes YOU reading this comment trust a man any man in a HAT like that?!?!?
We need another video of this on the San Diego Padres it’s crazy how many HoFers they had and got rid of over and over again I’m surprised Gwynn played his entire career there
As a 30 year old Marlins fan, I had no idea how many good players we squandered in the early 90s when I was just a kid. But this is the burden I bear as a South Florida sports fan 😔
You could do a similar video about the Milwaukee Brewers a mlb history worse then the marlins only one world series appearance in 1982 which they lose then in route to a 26 season without a playoff appearance
Between not giving in to a billionaire and giving the team to the worst owner in baseball, the Expos owner, it’s what we expected. They still have 2 World Series wins and might still be the only team without losing a playoff series. I doubt the Marlins spend $47 million now, even tho some teams have 1 player making more than that.
Did I miss the discussion of the aquisition of Jeff Conine jn 2003 from the Orioles? I lived in Baltimore and he was my favorite player so I got to meet him at the Orioles Fanfest and got his autograph.
It wasn't covered but it was huge and supposedly happened over the phone with less than 30seconds to go before the trade deadline ended, beinfest had to agree to extend the contract by a year.

If only the Marlins had just one ownership group that actually gave a shit about building a competitive team that wasn't trying to leverage a stadium. Such a shame Miami hasn't had a stable winner to cheer for.
the music under your voice always takes from your videos. i suggest turning it lower or not using it at all. talking over music doesnt enhance videos and never has
It’s crazy. Those two championships kept so many great teams and great players from winning rings bonds Sosa the 97 Cleveland team Jeter could’ve had his fifth ring at the time the 97 Braves just crazy those two little all in runs cost so many greats greatness.

Thank you Jolly. The Marlins have been my favorite team since their inaugural season and they are such an enigma still.

Thanks for reminding me why I gave up on the Marlins 😓
No, no. The Marlins gave up on you. And all of these players. And winning the World Series.
Nah, The Marlins are the ones who gave up on their fans. It’s almost like they are a feeder team for other teams with the way they operate
Yep

Indeed for the mid 90’s and early 2000’s they would have been a contender every year

The Marlins have zero division titles and two world championships.

Great vid as always!
This is such a good series idea for different teams.
yeah but that's a lot of history to comb through. it works for the marlins since they're ~30 years old
I freaking love the old local commercials you add into these videos. Just a timecapsule and lots of cheese.
And yes Kenny Lofton belongs in the Hall
Omg I forgot so many good players that played for the marlins, the nostalgia is real
Whenever I hear that background music, I think of The Simpsons Hit and Run Chapter 3.
