@@CaveWangApologies, my words were imprecise. I didn't mean tightening up from one performance to the other. Just pointing out both of those being superb as opposed to some concerts from early on in the tour where it sounded like they were still hammering out the live show.
There's something special about The Smile, where you know when Thom and Jonny are playing in Radiohead it's their "job" so you expect it. But them doing this project just for fun proves there's still so much kinetic energy and love of creating between them. They're just doing this cause they want to and still have so much to explore together. It's nice.

Saw them five times last year, including the show in Seattle. And while the experience was truly incredible, it was the people we met along the way that made it profound. You know who you are.
I know the drummer vaguely, his son goes to the same nursery as mine. His wife recently said to me "Tom's working in America and we're going too", and I'm just stood there thinking "Ah so you're going on tour with fucking Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, cool cool cool. I hate you" :)
I knew this performance would be amazing but I was absolutely blown away after listening. It is so incredible that Thom and Johhny have created so much great music, in so many different contexts and they continue to reinvent themselves and stay inspired. Almost no one has been making great music as long as they have, without sacrificing quality or becoming stale and boring. I was also insanely inspired by Tom Skinner's drumming. His playing is super unique and unpredictable in the best way. All around amazing group of musicians creating some amazing stuff.
I can't believe how great and also modest are these guys! Zero arrogance! Love the album and their live performances. But this session was outstanding. Great job. Extra bonus for "woman, life, freedom" sign on Thom's keyboard

They would just hang it somewhere on stage during the shows but anyways thats a hella an idea and congrats! We both did itttt
I was at that show. Where did you meet up with them?
To the engineers: that snare sound kills!!
Also the way a drummer tunes his skins. Collaborative effort!
@@audiochris78 incidentally, the drummer is Tom skinner
Thom's smile when Tom's drums come in on A Hairdryer is everything, i can only imagine the feeling of playing that song and listening to those drums, absolutely peak of performance from all of them
Jonny's guitar playing in Thin Thing is sick.
Love how thom smiles at 4:08. That's the smile man
This is how they should sound. Hats down to sound engineers.
This video popped again on my feed and I gotta say it´s really impressive how they keep getting better, I never saw Thom play bass like that, I´m really really impressed.
That Tom still gets so much joy out of performing in so refreshing to see. He’s the same guy I first saw on The Bends tour!
Thom just seems to get more painterly and exciting with every evolution. Jonny astounds and enraptures as always, and Skinner... holy shit.
Thank you for existing Thom Yorke.
Bruh this mix is put together beautifully. Everything sounds so high def
Seriously. Huge thanks to whoever mixed this cause it is fucking perfect.

An ad between the prelude and a hairdryer is fucking criminal
I mean, Thom and Jonny are legends. We all know this, and they're the reason we're here. But can we take a moment to appreciate Tom Skinner? I've been focusing on him listening to this performance, and he's got to be one of the best drummers around at the moment. He's absolutely incredible to watch/listen to.
Thom might be the greatest musician of the last 25 years.
Jonny is even better
@@mistuhmiketherapperI think Thom is the complete musician as he creates and sings the melodies. He’s a one man band.
Johnny is equally brilliant and technically a better musician.
Together. They are unstoppable.
Yeah Thom is one of the greatest musicians of all time, however, the virtuousness of Johnny has transcended even in the film industry, so 🤷🏻♂️
I dont think people realize that what comes across as a very user friendly music is actually flippin mental in terms of skill and experience.
How can Tom Skinner play those unbelievable rhytms AND sing at the same time? Dont know! How can Jonny play one guitar, make it sound like two (Thin THing, WTF????) AND at the same time play another instrument with his feet - midi controller? Dont know! How can Thom play guitar and bass parts that are most of the time pretty insane AND sing AND do it all in time with a band? Dont know!
What I love the most is the pure joy of the band, as if they were 15 still. Really inspiring, badass and funny af!
PS: audio engineers on this? World class.
It's a TON of sound coming from 3 musicians and now sometimes 4 with Stillman on sax.
Holy shit. Easily one of the best kexp performances. Right up there with that idles one.
A Hairdryer easily has one of the coolest guitar riffs I’ve ever heard
So much fun to play
Except for Thin Thing 😉
I’ve seen Radiohead 9 times, I saw Thom on his Anima tour, and I saw The Smile. All amazing, in their own right!
Gods of the music what have we done to deserve so much from you?
Opposite sounded crazy loose and groovy...and yet somehow they ended at EXACTLY the same time!! I love these bastards :)
Some really great added riffs in there too. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better.

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
Hey there, that’s a quote from my homie the Prophet Knopf :)
Open The Floodgates, absolutely wonderful. Then again the entire album is perfect
I am so grateful to be alive during the time of Radiohead. That I've been able to be an active fan in real time. And to have the greatest privilege of seeing them live. I'm forever grateful to these guys.
The Smile*
Me too
Skinner is a god
First Tiny Desk and now this. What a great time to share music.
Open The Floodgates was something else, especially the way Jonny‘s guitar sounded
These guys blow minds for a living. I really needed that. Absolute class!
Jello Biafra blows minds for a living. I have the t shirt to prove it
@@cmgordon12345 yes!! I knew someone would catch this :) Jello!!!
That last song is pure Radiohead/solo Thom and is utterly beautiful.
The grit and passion in Thom's voice will forever give me chillsssssssss.
These guys need 1000 years to release all the music they have in their souls. Amazing band haha. Bravo!
Never in my life would I imagine Thom Yorke playing here at KEXP. What a wonderful time to be alive
Open the floodgates was magical. Im so glad its 2023 and we still have very Good music thanks to these guys. 🙌
Open the floodgates is my favorite tack .
I could never explain what Tom York's music made me feel for more than 20 years. Thank you man
everything in its right place
Top 3, if not #1 KEXP session of all time. Absolutely incredible.
It's not but good luck
@@jallakka7149 I am just now getting into these KEXP sessions. Since this was incredible and you say there are better sessions don't hesitate to recommend me some.
@@dan8ball22 My personal fave is Ty Segal and the Muggers! Of course King Gizzard is up there too.
@@jallakka7149 Of course you like king gizzard
@@Bringadingus oh really. still tho the muggers gig is way better than this pretentious crap.
Jonny’s guitar on open the floodgates is sublime, soul grabbing stuff
Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood in the same space is synonymous with something amazing. Woww
"Thin Thing" is in my opinion Thom Yorke's greatest musical masterpiece...after "How to Disappear..." and "Weird Fishes" and "Idioteque".......and "Fade out"....and I know I'm missing a couple of álbuns here. ..Oh yeah, "Open the Floogates" is also a masterpiece....!!! Fu€k!!! When are they going to do a bad sond!?
And thank you KEXP for this....🤗
Thom is so mesmerizing
kinda digging jonny’s pearls
great set
the depth of sound made by just three people is unreal.
Damn, it's amazing how much they've tightened up their live performances in so short a time. With this and the Tiny Desk performance, that are masterful stuff.
The performed them very close together one was just delayed more in release
@@CaveWangApologies, my words were imprecise. I didn't mean tightening up from one performance to the other. Just pointing out both of those being superb as opposed to some concerts from early on in the tour where it sounded like they were still hammering out the live show.
@@alexcraig8543 ahh I see what you mean, oh for sure!!
There's something special about The Smile, where you know when Thom and Jonny are playing in Radiohead it's their "job" so you expect it. But them doing this project just for fun proves there's still so much kinetic energy and love of creating between them. They're just doing this cause they want to and still have so much to explore together. It's nice.
and this is why there's gonna be a second The Smile album before you know it, while there may never be another Radiohead album. But that's okay, honestly.
@@pantalaemon Phil said Radiohead will be back this year

Newer Radiohead fan, in my early 60's but this very much reminds me of Pink Floyd in the "Several Species Grooving with ... " or the "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" era, UmmaGumma. Really pretty amazing.
Was thinking just the same listening to the prelude
Welcome brotha
Trying to get tired of this... but there is no way!

Masterclass in live performance. Legends
Saw them five times last year, including the show in Seattle. And while the experience was truly incredible, it was the people we met along the way that made it profound. You know who you are.
I met some really nice people in Vienna. I still enjoyed Radiohead and Atoms for peace shows more for sure.
I love this. I saw them in Denver and it's like you said. People were warm, friendly, and like a big SUPER STOKED family. :)
I am so effing happy these guys still make fantastic music. Love the Smile.

Open The Floodgates is just… so freaking beautiful. ♥️

I love the album version but live is even better. Such an experience.
We need a Live Basement version of this
This
no we dont, we have a KEXP which is better
@@licandres01 KEXP is nowhere near basement's terms of quality
@@JackMorgan06 lol what are you talking about
KEXP and From the Basement are both incredible and I'm glad they offer diverse artists.
King Crimson meets The Police. Amazing artwork for a 3 person band.
Somos contemporáneos a Thom y a Jonny . Celebremos y valoremos eso.
I think writting Thin thing is arrogant.
Wow! This is outstanding. Never heard these songs sound better in any live versions. Hope this encourages them to do a "From The Basement' with a full set.
Radio head has
they played all of these at the WaMu in Seattle.
Best show ever been too!!
Open The Floodgates was just amazing. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
