Can we just agree that Radiohead are the best thing that has happened to music in the last 25 years?
Agreed! llmll
Hector Oviedo yes!
Hector Oviedo no
Hector Oviedo Radiohead, sigur ros and aphex twin.
LCD Soundsystem?
How I wish they had From The Basement for every album...
+SankoGaming I would do pretty much anything to get one with Kid A, a man can dream...
+Kidday42 Yes
Kid A would be sick.
+SankoGaming Ok Computer from the basement would be entertaining.
+Kidday42 OMG I would kill to see Motion Picture Soundtrack live...
This is much better than the album version
Dude ! That's what I'm here noticing 😳....... But why ?
They focused too much in electronic sounds probably. You can see that when they actually play it, it sounds a lot better.
What's good about this is that even though it was "live" it still was "in the basement" so the recording is just as good as an album recording.
Yekay yeke because some bands are just amazing live and Radiohead is one of them.
***** so much better
***** correcectttomondo young man!! but only by 0.078%
Little by little, The King Of Limbs will grow on you.
Separator is my jam.
Bloom is mine, when the brass comes in I'm like 0.0 Just the amount of layers and textures is just incredible!
Joe Foulds To be honest, Bloom is mine too. But you know, I think every song they played in this basement is everyone's jam too XD
Im heavily addicted to Separator
Joris0815 So trueee!
aria gardhadipura
G . U . T . G
One day, whether you want it or not, Radiohead starts clicking for you and then that’s it.
This album is beautiful and live is so powerful.
Radiohead is like a fine wine, they get better with age.
Yeah
Their first song was C.R.A.P
haha
Oftentimes I think Johnny Greenwood has all of the answers to life, the universe, and everything cooked up in his head but is to terrified of their contents to share.
Please understand. He shares with the way he plays
Please understand. - you sir, are a genius. that is exactly whats happening. and Gavin McLeod, he only shares the very tiniest amount. we just wouldnt understand if he let it all out.
Please understand. yeah i used to think pretentious shit like that when i was 17, but then i grew up
bob calhoun
Ha!
I think the same thing, except it's Donnie Osmond, not Johnny. (Or was it Scooby doo?)
There is no one else even playing the same fucking game as Radiohead. The Best Band. Period.
I totally agree im a lil obsessed...
Mk Hansen hell yes, no question about it!!
+Mk Hansen Arcade Fire
after almost 30 years this band is still getting further with it. Just crazy.
I know right. They just keep evolving.
absolute best way to describe this/them
they have demos on youtube from 1986
contactkeithstack
thats awesome, can we have the link? thatd be so interesting to hear
I did not know that. They're truly incredible.
Lotus flower is amazing here, what a groove.
seriously. phil and clive are both so on point
Yes
Was just thinking the same thing!
Bloom live is the most remarkable live performance I've ever seen.
+Florals LA no it isn't....its rubbish noisiness...then it sounds a bit gem....then its flaps again....that's the way it goe's
Ok
+Florals LA yeah, and it's the perfect opener to a radiohead show
Airbag live on Jools Holland is better
@@AlanAttack, this song basically *blooms*
After listening to give up the ghost, I just want to bawl uncontrollably.
Thanks mate :')
Yes I know exactly what you mean! Idk if you play guitar, but i was astounded to find out how simple the guitar part is. It's just a standard d chord, but in the song it feels like nothing I've ever heard before. And if I close my eyes, I feel like he's singing it to me.
+Acadia Mercer It evokes a lot of nostalgia with me particularly fall memories. The guitar and Yorke's vocals always pull on my heart strings :D
+Acadia Mercer me too... was crazy emotional
+Acadia Mercer over Landscapeinside us ... over...
Since the day I discovered Radiohead I have been blown away.
Well aren't you a fucking genius.
Melissa Burdick that last part of your surname really says something about your attitude
Melissa Burdick lol
kebiwoni its so relaxing listen them
kebiwoni
I love everything they've done. They changed my life.
I've seen some negative text on here about this being an experimental failure. These guys aren't making this music for the person that feels that way. They aren't making this music for me either. They create their art for themselves, if they weren't having fun they would call it a day.
Agreed, I think they're truly a musician's band. They're chasing the muse eternal. Fans are a nifty but optional side-effect.
yeah,this isn"t muse,god forbid.
I honestly don’t understand where people get off judging some else’s art. The entire notion of an art critic is nonsense and it makes me wish a comet would hit the earth.
I thoroughly enjoy it, but others don’t have to. TKOL just keeps growing on you every time you sit down to listen again. True art for sure.
You know you manifest reality with the chosen ice cream flavor. It could of been completely different if you ordered espresso Gelato with unconventional time signatures drizzled on top
When you suddenly start to realize how great The King of Limbs actually is...like 4 years after its release
+Marc Enciso I knew it was great the whole time it just hadn't grown on me. It happens with every RH song.
+Fitztas Mavich so true especially with their later albums. When I sat down and listened to In Rainbows the first time I liked it... But I kind of didn't at the same time. I just think maybe there is a lot to process the first time with some of their music. And of course now a few listens in and more it's one of my favorite of all time.
+Ryan Beck True but I loved In Rainbows in the first go. It was stunning. For me, Kid A and The Kings of Limbs took some time before I could appreciate them and now that I do, I just can't seem to get out of it. And I need more Basement Sessions, for every album, every song they ever made.
+Marc Enciso That's where I find myself now.
+Marc Enciso It was great for me since it came out, now imagine how it feels 4 years later.
"Please tell me that sounded alright!?" That sounded f'ing amazing.
these guys saved my life, gob bless
I had no idea I liked Radiohead this much. I've been missing out for so long.
Going to buy some albums.
If you get Hail to the Thief... look up Thoms revised setlist/ordering. The album suffered from lack of editing(everyone wanted THEIR song on the album and it became very uneven) -- If you haven't listened to In Rainbows I highly recommend it
Exodin
I still think Hail to the Thief is fantastic
Adyman182 You throw them out or place them at the end as a B side. They aren't very good and grind the album to a halt. I never believed in track list order/contents until Hail to the Thief came along. Thoms version changed the album for me.
You're in for a treat.
Do yourself a favour and don't bother with Pablo Honey and Hail To The Thief. All their other albums are masterpieces.
Thom says, "Please tell me that sounded alright." Understatement of the millennium.
Separator is just... Heaven.
Codex = Heaven in my mind...
I just feel like I'm unattached from the world for a few minutes and it's pure bliss
I love you Radiohead.
could not agree more!!
Bbb bub Oh
That is exactly how the song makes me feel, it´s literally heaven
indeed my friend, indeed.
Still feel the same 10 years later
I swear bloom is one of the greatest songs they've ever written...
I was starting to think I was the only one who thought of it that way
Dude...it really is... the collaborative effort is amazing.. the end of it blows my god damn vestibulocochlear nerve
The drum work is phenomenal. I swear that 808 tom was just a loop
I am the president of the United States of America, and i approve this comment
It's like I've fallen out of bed from a long and vivid dream.
The Daily Mail is true masterpiece.
Definitely. Unlike the newspaper.
This is the "first time" I've sat down and actually listened to Radiohead(honestly don't think ive heard anything before), and here were my reactions:
*first song*
1) This is... different.
2) Are they just trying to stand out?
3) Ok that's pretty groovy... like the odd time signatures the drummers are doing...
*40 minutes later*
4) Fuck, these guys are brilliant. They just won a fan.
This isn't even there best stuff, the king of limbs is widely considered as one of their weaker albums even though it's really damn good.
Bloom is so fucking amazing here... IT'S WHAT KEEPS ME ALIVE!
I think many people have these negative preconceptions about bands like Radiohead because of how popular they are, but in truth you _very rarely_ come across a band this well known who still make meaningful and soulful music with actual depth and not some run-of-the-mill radio fodder. I was really blown away how experimental some of this stuff is.
All I can say is this band earned my respect. I'll show this to all my friends for sure.
They aren't even THAT popular when you think about it. They are super widely known in indie scenes, but if you ask a random person they probably would stare at your with a blank face.
Staircase crushes my heart grapes.
separator is amazing...
+douebleu so is bloom
huh huh hah Radiohead - The King of Limbs (Live From The Basement)
Jerel Rocktaschel :D made me laugh!
quoi !!!!!!!?
Among all the things that I am truly grateful for in life, there is Radiohead
So extraordinary.
What would this world be without Radiohead?
This is so amazing that 113 people turn their monitor upside down to like it twice.
Daily Mail....
..thats all..
dethwyshtv The vocal is completly different!!! Just pay attantion... Actually everything is different.
freakin a.. i'm watchin Daily Mail right now... WOW.
thom starts drooling, d'aaaw
AWESOME
Codex has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever composed
Who needs drugs when you have Radiohead? Me!
You need drugs while you have Radiohead? I can't tell if your making an ironic joke or you didn't read your comment again... Oh well, Radiohead!
derp kerp Well i dont need drugs for radiohead, i dont need drugs for pink floyd, but with drugs its also such a great experience.
Radiohead ES una droga!!
i dont need to, but i love doing it... lol
Thom Yorke, a man I wish to see grow gracefully old.
Reasons to keep living
1. thom yorke is alive and creating timeless works of art
2. ? ? ? ? ?
2.) Good food
+Sterling Snake (Stoogie) Pizza!
Юрій Приходько All of the pizza! :)
+Othmane Bellamine
2. TH-cam is FREE :v
Why does everyone on TH-cam care so much about whether this is better than X or the best of X..., as good as X, X out of 10?
Surely it's enough that we're all here, we love it and it's fucking awesome, long may radiohead continue doing their thing! Let's stop overanalysing everything and enjoooooyyyyyy.
+Joseph Butler This is what TH-cam comments are about. and now please let the fighting continue.
+Torben Jäckel debating
the music is so beautiful it's scary, I feel that Thom feels things more deeply, like he's more sensitive than most people, his voice sounds vulnerable and fragile and also innocent, I think that only people who are as vulnerable and loving as he seems can make this type of sound. like Jeff Buckley said once, "the way you live your life, that's how it comes out, if you're a kiss ass something in your voice is kiss ass"
Well said, well said.
He's operating on a level of sensitivity and creativity that most of us can't approach. It's one of the things that separates geniuses from the rest of us. Luckily we have his music as a gift to the rest of us, as painful as it often must be for him to make it.
+Brenda Luna true
+tantivymuckermaffikk
anyone has the potential to make music like this, Thom Yorke probably doesn't think he's special. Stop putting them on a pedestal.
+Justin Brown Justin, I highly doubt just anyone is capable of making music at this level. The reason bands like Radiohead are special is that they have a talent that isn't ordinary.
Wow! Just wow! This is amazing! >.< It has me floating off to some place pure, safe and warm. :)
Gotta admit, I am loving the two-drummer scenario. I'm a huge fan, been one for decades.
Saw Atoms for Peace during their world tour and they had 2 drummers. It was absolutely incredible and added an entirely new dimension to the live show
Why does this sound way better than the studio version of the album? Seems to be some extra reverb or something.
I think it's mostly all the post production they did to the album. It definitely sounds much more authentic here.
Well, I think it's mainly because the tracks on the album seem to incorporate alot more electronic things/are mixed differently.
On the album version of Magpie, you almost can't here Toms Guitar, but alot of electronic sounds, that they don't "produce" live.
they're both compressed to buggery!
this live version even more so!
***** but in a totally lively good way-Nigel is a hero of audio!
King of Limbs is not a live album, it is made up of samples, so they actually had to learn how to play the songs live after they finished the album
Anyone notice how Thom Yorke tells the Johnny and Ed to chill on the guitars at the VERY beginning of Little By Little @ 14:54. Then he cues Johnny to come in on the 2nd measure. It's cool to think he just likes the sound of the song with just Drum and Bass at first. Just my thoughts.
wow nice dude, that is awesome
Kaman Bagati
Haha, glad you can notice and share the appreciation!
Exactly the kind of thing I notice watching these kinds of things. They are truly amazing. Nice catch, TSP.
SEPARATOR...I can put that song on loop forever...
Please tell me that sounded alright...
+ping6uod Not alright, perfect. I love this band....
+ping6uod that sounded good right?
+ping6uod he's saying what thom said after he performed "give up the ghost" watch it till the end you see
+Jerissa Martinez love your profile picture!!!! love Bjork
Yaara C Bjork is my way of life. My mother even introduced her pre Bjork music to me as a Sugarcube. Back in her punk days. I absolutely love Bjork. I even saw her live in concert at the Nokia Theatre in L.A, Ca.
daily mail one of the best i heard its a shame there is no studio version
Well, it was released as a single along with Staircase later that year, but the version on the single is the Live From The Basement version. I can tell because Thom's singing is identical from one to the other, down to the little 'u-whoa' sound he makes at the end. Still, I never would've guessed it was performed live just from listening to it - probably some subtle mixing done before the release, but the point remains that the performance was fantastic.
***** contrabadass sax
Foxface and The Mech I never new that the daily mail single was actually the basement version! It sounded so good that I immediately thought it had been done in a studio. Awesome stuff.
As a drummer of 20+ years, I am very impressed by Clive Deamer's performance in this video, especially during "Staircase" starting at 37:22. He approaches every song with the demeanor of someone who is there not only to do his job, but to do it well. And well he does. He's a magnificent session musician. Magnificent.
Incredible musicians.
"Beautiful" is not enough for this song .... a heavenly experience
Such art. much different
WOW
Pey Tron suuuuuper WOW, ya ya ya!!!:)
Pey Tron ugh
Imagine: Radiohead - Ok Computer (Live FromThe Basement)
+Icky Spliff Ok Computer is my favourite album ever, but in a way I would prefer Amnesiac from the basement. It's a bit more weird and and different sounds to play with for the band.
ive seen this several times and every time i see the daily mail i literally can just shake my head and say *WOW*
The King of Limbs - a collection so thoroughly over the top in musicianship.
Separator wasn't long enough in this video.. Just never want it to end.. so beautiful
i wish bloom rocked out like this on the album
also wtf where was the daily mail on this album?
trigger-fish It wasn't actually on the album. They released it later that year - December, I think - as a single by itself, along with Staircase. It's a shame, I think the album and the single work far better together than they do as separate items. TKOL is crazy short, too, I'm not sure why they didn't have those two songs on it - it certainly would've helped it seem more like a full release.
Foxface and The Mech my thoughts exactly. would have been amazing
Foxface and The Mech I think they weren't on the album simply because they hadn't finished writing them yet. But I agree entirely that TKOL was too short. I was very disappointed when the album came out. This recording session is much better.
Give up the ghost it seems underrated at first, but keep listing, and its one of the most beautiful tracks on here. Johnny's guitar creeps in the background hauntingly.....just beautiful. This song will help through alot.
This album was the biggest grower for me in 20 years.
I liked it when I first heard it, but love it up there with Kid A and In Rainbows.
Just spectacular.
For months I've been listening to The Daily Mail thinking it was a studio recorded B-side. That's how on point they are live. I am in awe.
Masters of their craft. This was my least favorite Radiohead album when it first came out, then I saw these "Basement" versions and now it's one of my favorite albums.
This is the best performance, of any kind, I have ever seen, in my 26 years of life.
I'm always coming back to this when winter is near. When I think of winter, the next thing that comes to my mind is Radiohead. Don't know why but it fits perfectly
Maybe my life is a winter then... I think of them constantly.
I agree.
'Bloom' is a definitive master-work - a tune of the age.
Cant say how many times I've listened to it on repeat.
Feral is very intense. Separator is absolutely beautiful.
Lovin this version of "Give Up the Ghost"
...Close to my 💖 & 💫.....
Codex is so fucking beautiful here! It's so calming, utterly transcendental. Thank you Radiohead, your albums are like the hallowed ground of the music industry.
whoah. That was incredible. They should have just recorded that session and those songs and released that as King of Limbs. Including Staircase which was incredible and finishing off with that incredible version of Give up the Ghost.
word. this trumps the studio version a trajillion times over.
Eileen Jones Exactly. My first thought after finding this.
i think radiohead is a group of ancient alien human hybrids who interdimensially transcend the music that the earth is giving off so we can hear it, yeah thats it. hypnotizing.
Unique, compelling, and subtly organic; this performance takes the whole game to a different level. Most other musicians aren't even aware what game to play in comparison.
I think the live and organic versions of many of radiohead's songs are perfectly pristine and you can just close your eyes and imagine yourself entirely somewhere else. The album versions of king of limbs songs are sometimes a hard pill to swallow, i.e. Morning mr magpie, yet you can still feel the depth of their intricacies and scope. But here, as the chemistry and talent of each band member coalesce, some songs that may otherwise struggle to grasp at us in packaged form, beautifully swell as an almost picturesque landscape. Like a soundtrack to a contrasts of chaos and elegance, there is something irrefutably magical between them. Hence, all songs reveal their true relevence. And what could not be seen before is an suddenly an epiphany to you now. And just what the hell am i trying to say? This is good shit, yo. Heh heh.
Phil has glued a shaker to a drumstick. Neat.
Give up the ghost is criminally epic.
Daily Mail is so much more visceral and packs a way bigger punch than on the album. I love this rendition so much!
It's actually the same recording, they mastered it a bit on the Single though. :p
"Give up the Ghost," with its simple but brilliant looping, is one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard in a while. And its rich harmonies can be produced live by a single one person anywhere with just a voice, a guitar and the right software!
A song called "CREEP" brought me here, somehow. I'm here to stay. Love this band.
Setshaba Mashigo Wow, okay. LOL....
***** A treat indeed. 'Give up the ghost' is another song that I like now. This band is so awesome. Thom's voice makes me melt on this song. He is so wonderful...
Awesome. You're going to be in for a long and amazing journey through sound....and feels. Haha enjoy it ✌🏻️
+Jerissa Martinez If I may make a polite suggestion, try to listen to each record as a whole when you can. Each song is incredible, but often they take new life when played together with the entire album. Anyways, enjoy:) Getting to know Radiohead was one of the most joyous times in my life, and they still surprise me frequently.
JustForTheTunes Thanks, good suggestion. I will google all of the albums and do as you suggested. I did listen to one of their greatest hits albums here on youtube and it's very good. But I would rather listen to their lesser known material. The hidden gems that didn't get much circulation. That's what I'm after.
Interesting album. My favorites are Lotus Flower, Morning Mr. Magpie and Give up the Ghost.
Consummate artists, every one of them. I come back and watch this every few months and still am amazed at the perfection. We're very lucky to be alive while they're making music.
Radiohead opened me up to a variety of genres with white artists.
I've always managed to connect with "less accessible" radiohead albums through listening to them live. The songs just make more sense when you see what's actually going on instrumentally. They also tend to sound warmer and more organic which I like. Having said that I can still go back to the studio versions later and enjoy them more.
This video has really helped me connect with the King of Limbs. I'm loving how much is going on with the rhythms and percussion but I'm also digging the melodies much more. Separator is astounding!
I still remember the day this released, gives me shivers. TKOL is Underated™️. Like just of their music, live is so beautiful.
Love it! My dad's family were French and he played an accordian..... brings me joy. Thank you.
everytime I listen to Colin talking about stuff ,is like seeing Gavin Free telling jokes in his 40s.
+Will Carscadden in a good way though ,gotta love their weird humor.
+supersamsilencer I think he looks a little like a slowly collapsing mole...
When watching any of the Radiohead in the basement vids it amazes me the natural talent, those little electronic changes between songs to make it work, the little chats between each song and timing changes. It is so personal just watching these guys in action. Probably my fave band ever and seeing them up-close and personal is just amazing.
There's just no other band that comes close. Not only is their music full of emotion and soul, it is also highly unconventional and technical. The chord progressions and harmony's they use are not something you'll come across on radio.
Bloom is like an entirely different song here. I love how they took all of those subtle details from the studio version and turned it into one of the most frantic, pulsing and straight up ROCKIN' songs they've ever done.
just this one here, just this one here, just this one here, just this one here
Not many people are as natural playing guitar as Thom. He looks SO comfortable..
The more I listen "lotus flower". The more I realize what a masterpiece it is.
Codex is just astonishing.
A remarkable assemblage of musicians in their prime, both technically and creatively. This recorded testimony that this happened is a treasure. If we ever have to lock our most important art in a vault, this better be among the most important parts of that collection.
the best musicians on the planet.without a doubt.
Ecstasy right here... Just the definition of love right here... Separator, Bloom, Lord Have Mercy On My Humble Soul!
I can't believe there are some people in the world who don't have Radiohead in their lives. It makes me a bit sad, but also so grateful that I have them :)
Really enjoyed this. Latecomer to Radiohead music. Gotta check out their older stuff!
Their older stuff is good as this one, you should try OK Computer first, my number one album from Radiohead.
Thanks, I'll check that one out.
The best way to describe listening to Radiohead " finally I'm free from all the weight I've been carrying" At last I can shut everything out and feed my soul.
They saw God during Codex. I'm convinced.
They saw God during codex?
Jude erkj29 I just mean they look as though they are extremely fixated yet hypnotized during the song. I don't mean literally, obviously.
Yeah i get that. I thought there was a story behind that like during the making of the song or somethibg. Still very beautiful i agree with what you saw!
The Daily Mail is such a good song. It is going on my list of songs to play at the end of the world.
Lotus Flower is such a beautiful song.. Always makes me feel like I'm on the verge of tears. I love it.
Wow.. what an album, the best one so far.
