The scenes at 1:15 and 2:09 are my favourites in the film. The first one is haunting, seeing a woman who has lost absolutely everyone important to her, now she even has to bury them. The second one is moving in a different way, even though it's also a very sensitive depiction of grief. I love how the captain mourning his friends's suicide is positioned against this beautiful forest, how the two can co-exist without the effect of either of them getting lost or overshadowed. Moments of catharsis and tranquillity like this are really what the cinema is designed for.

What a hearthbreaking and humane movie it is. America's story is based on genocide and atrocity, and too much people tend to forget it. The worse part is; the soldiers were human to. No one should ever have to suffer as the native did, or do the atrocities that the army did to them.

The Comanches kidnapped women and children.
Tourniqueted their arms and legs and cut them off.
They then cooked the limbs as the victims crawled around like inch worms for their ammusment before being thown alive on the fire.
      Then the Comanche ate them...
I feel no pitty for what happened to them when the Texas Rangers would later find them.

HOSTILES, released in 2018 and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), is a beautiful and dark Neo Western that benefits from stunning cinematography and an all-star cast, including Rosamund Pike, Wes Studi, Jesse Plemons, Timothée Chalamet, Jonathan Majors, and Christian Bale, delivering what I believe to be his best performance yet. The film explores the concept that we are all "hostiles" with our own wars and delves into themes of “melancholia” and the nature of war's consequences on men. It’s not an easy watch-the first scene is brutal and heartbreaking, setting the tone for the rest of the movie. Watch this if you love Westerns with a dash of existentialism. Solid 4 stars!
