I could not disagree more. I had a RAV4 hybrid, top of line and when I went to turn it in at the lease end the new 2020 RAV4 was about the same as what I was trading. I look at everything out there and looked at the Ford Escape titanium hybrid. Immediately upon sitting in the car the comfort and seat position was frantic. The hybrid system was nicer, it handled better, well I could go on and on. You owe it to yourself to the one.

I went to a Toyota dealer to purchase a RAV4 hybrid but was also considering a Venza. After the test drive the Venza won out for comfort and I love the no knob uncluttered look. We have had it for a few months and absolutely love it!

I’m sure I’d love the Venza too. But here in Canada it starts at $46K plus taxes. $700 per month lease. Wow. Who can afford this? And if you can, why wouldn’t you go for a Lexus, Acura, Tesla, etc…?

I was considering Venza but RAV4 easily won over. More space, more practical and way cheaper. We do a lot of hiking and skiing trips, so the trunk space, the cross bars (not available with Venza) and higher clearance were important.

I just traded a 2019 RAV4 Trail (Adventure in the US) for a 2021 Venza XLE and wow! what a difference. The RAV wasn’t a hybrid but it was a great SUV. I’ve been driving Toyotas for over twenty years and the Venza (this is now my third one) has always been my favourite. The ‘21 model is so luxurious and feature filled that I can’t believe it didn’t cost a lot more. This is my first hybrid vehicle and I’m quite pleased with the performance and the fuel economy.

Could not agree more. Tested the all-wheel drive system in about 9 in of snow last winter and it performed wonderfully.
I could not make it get squirrely.
      It always reacted quickly enough.
I put a hitch on mine. Zero problems pulling a small trailer.
I was considering a fully loaded Subaru Forester, but I didn't like the idea of having the all wheel drive drivetrain working all the time.
I could not be more pleased with my Venza. I've gotten as high as 51.6 MPG on short trips.

    • @ericolens3
      @ericolens3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I will say, i -love- respect german automobiles.
Yet the premium ones are exactly what I'm NOT looking for.
In a world of ever increasing gas prices, i dont want to get double or even tripple penalized for getting a german auto.
      1) you MUST use higer octane fuels
      2) there is a lower fuel economy than what the Japanese auto makers offer (nissan, toyota, and lexus)
      3) the higher premium in prices for certain german autos like Mercedes compared to nissan or Toyota.
As a teenager, i got my mother's old car, it was her, at the time, NEW car for mother's day. Yet as a teen and young adult. Im more focused on fuel economy over certain luxuries.
With the technology boom of recent autos, theres not many features i honestly want from a german or other luxury brand. (Please note that german and luxury go hand in hand, yet Japanese autos are RELIABLE and affordable)
I traded my 2003 Mercedes benz c240 in for a 2013 nissan Altima, to avoid maintenance costs and fuel costs.
Even as a non hybrid vehicle, i gained 3 or more forms of savings.
      1) lower Octane required
      2) more fuel economy due to being a newer vehicle
      3) less maintenance due to being a newer vehicle.
My next vehicle will be a hybrid due to suvs now being able to have comparable fuel economies to sedan, with the added perk of more trunk/foot space.
Im no rush to get a new vehicle, yet the fuel economy of the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is extremely attractive to me at a competitive 36mpg city (6.5 L/100km) and 35 highway (6.72 L/100km).
If not for the 3rd row only being useful for toddlers and infants, I'd love to get the vehicle now. I'm glad that technology and fuel economies are increasing.
      My current Vehicle is a Nissan Rogue with 28 city (8.5 L/100km) and 35 highway(6.72 L/100 km).
I have driven more premium vehicles, yet I LOVE my vehicle the most. Since a stronger engine is not really useful for my lifestyle. 80 mph is 80 mph. (128kmh)
      Edit:
      Conversions from imperial to Metric.
For clarity between USA and non USA units. 😅

Between the Rav4 and Venza, the choice really comes down to luxury vs utility. I chose the Venza for the air-conditioned seats, massive infotainment screen, stargaze roof, and soft touch interior. But by not choosing the Rav4, I missing out on a sunroof that opens, towing capabilities, and I'm losing a little bit of cargo space.

Hybrid drivetrain is far superior to 2016 8 speed AWD model we traded in for ‘20 RX450h. Now considering our second car between (all hybrids) New 22 NX350/450h, Venza, RAV4 and perhaps UX or Prius. Have owned many Hondas (Accords) and Acuras (Integras, Legends, and MDX’s) as well, but Honda turbo engine issues and other failing quality issues have placed me firmly in Lexus camp. Your list is great for buyers.
I wanted a more sporty/luxury hybrid and it really was between the Toyota Venza and the Lexus UX250H. The Venza just seemed like a car designed for an older population, though much quieter at highway speed and softer to drive.
I ended up with a 2021 Lexus UX F Sport in Ultrasonic Blue with red interior. Like you said, the infotainment system does take some getting used to and the UX is tight inside, but very, very comfortable for me and definitely stands out amongst other cars--even non-hybrids. Also, it is rated at 39 highway / 40 city, but I am averaging 45 highway / 49 city. If I really go ECO, I can get around 55 city. Personally, I think it is a much underrated vehicle strictly due to its size.

@@djfAmos123 Toyota has been perfecting their hybrid platform for decades.. Toyota batteries now come with a ten year 150,000 mile warranty with most batteries lasting well over 200,000 miles. In 200,000 miles most people will have replaced their brakes three times, that doesn't happen with Toyota's regenerative braking. The money saved on brake jobs alone will pretty much cover the cost of a new battery especially since battery prices keep dropping.
With gas prices on the rise a hybrid vehicle makes a lot of sense, most people don't have a 240 volt outlet in their garage for a plug-in hybrid and you can buy gas literally anywhere.
Also based on the carbon emissions needed to produce the vehicle hybrids are better for the environment than either plugins or full electric vehicles.

Very good review of the market. However, please note that some of these cars lack a spare tire (CRV, Tuscon), which is a deal breaker for me. I would've put the Rav4 Prime at the top of the list. I've been driving one for two months now and I'm averaging 5L per 100km. It has more power than the Rav4 Hybrid which really counts when you want to overtake other vehicles, or drive into moutains. In addition it can tow an additional 1000lbs over the Rav4 Hybrid which can be really useful. I priced the Toyota Prime against a similarly equipped Rav4 Hybrid, and with tax credits (USA) the difference in price was negligible. Really, if you can find one, the Rav4 Prime is a no-brainer. The Rav4 line-up is compromised by Toyota's weird feature packaging. For instance, in the USA, in order to get a power driver seat with memory (so my wife and I can both drive the vehicle without fuss) you have to get the Rav4 Hybrid Premium with full feature packages! In the USA that pushes the price north of $39,500 which is about the same (after credits) as a Rav4 Prime. One advantage the Prime and Hybrid share is the eCVT. This is achieved using a motor attached to a planetary gear transmission - it doesn't have a belt and in driving feels significantly better than a comparable CVT design.

@@Anyguy4321 They are apparently plentiful on the East Coast but on my side of the country? Not so much. I had to fly to California and then drive 800 miles home in the new vehicle. I strongly suggest looking at the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. It has higher towing capacity, a more powerful engine, better equipped for the price-point, and more leg room in the rear seat. I test drove the Tucson Unlimited version and compared against the Hybrid Premium. The Tucson was more stable on the road and has better brakes. I also found greater leg room in the back seats. Warranty is better too. The main drawback, in my opinion, is the turbo and possibly the transmission. This is where Toyota really excel. I also find that waiting a couple of years while the bugs are sorted on a new model, is a good idea. The Toyota had several problems in 2019/20 but they've ironed out all the bugs. So you're buying a reliable product. Anyhow, best of luck. I'm not unhappy with my Prime - just annoyed with Toyota.

In my kia sorento I got 45 mpg on a 20 mile trip. can vary depending on how aggressive you drive. if you turn on sport and go heavy on the pedal then it'll be more like 20-25 maybe. I dont do that very much but it is much better than my last car. I have AWD and it does great in snow/gravel up and down slopes. It makes driving fun and I would say I like my car, though I think it probably is priced a little high. my only complaint is the engine sleeps a bit early for my liking. the engine will begin sleeping before you've completely stopped, so if you're doing a rolling stop or just going kinda slow then it can be annoying as you wait half-turn for the engine to turn on. although I haven't checked if I can change it in the settings... yeah I gotta do that... overall I like the car and the screen is horizontal which is nice, makes it easy to see maps with apple carplay or android auto. I have an iphone for my work phone and a personal android phone and they basically work the same. you get what you want, but you'll have to use it a few times to get used to it.
