      For a few reasons:
      1. RV manufacturers just put the pieces together. They manufacture very few components.
      2. Not enough RVs are sold to justify the political gamble of passing such a law.
      3. RVs are considered a luxury and cars are a necessity.
      4. A lemon law would take the already ridiculous price of RVs and make prices even more ridiculous

    • @paulhutchinson72
      @paulhutchinson72 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Exactly! There should be, as part of the Lemon Law, a clock that starts the day you drive out of the dealership and buyers, users are guaranteed a percentage of time the RV is useable, or it is a Lemon. Having your RV sit a a dealership waiting for repair is just insane.

    • @werberderber6209

      @@NunYa953 I disagree,
      1. every vehicle out there has third party parts/vendors where they just assemble it, the auto manufacturer stands behind those parts.
      2. It shouldn't matter how many RVs are sold, a lot of them have issues, and that is our (consumers) hard earned money.
      3. A car is not a necessity anymore than an RV is a luxury item, I can get any where I want to go via another transportation system.
      4. If having a lemon law increases the price by making them stand by their product so be it, people will by fewer RVs which in turn will drive down the price, and you will still have a better product.

Buying an RV is not the concern.
The concern is can you trust the manufactuer to build your RV in good condition to last a long time.
When you buy new, you never see the frame, the electronics are all brand new. You really can't do a good
test on the RV and its functions until you own it.
So for a new RV I say NEVER buy a new model until it is tested by other owners.
Sorry if you are being the guinny pig here, but you really need to wait a year or two then check the repair records
for that manufacturer on that model. The longer you wait, the better.
This is what we are seeing with the frames, and as they get older, more RV's with frame damage is being reported.
Older RV's can be good but you have to spend a day going over it.
The big concern is roof leaks and good walls.
for the right price, you can replace everything else if needed and they dont have the crazy electronics in them.
for a Motorhome, you want a good motor as well. Have a mechanic look at it.
you really need to change the oil and look at the oil. Transmission fluid as well. Brakes and a good running engine.
Buy brand new and you may be opening Pandoras Box (if there is an RV called Pandora, I was not pointing you out.)

    • @williampeacy5217
      @williampeacy5217 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

You are so right. Typically, the coach warranty is a limited warranty of 1 year. By the time you use it enough to find the bugs, the warranty is over. I have had several different brands of RV vehicles over the last 30 years. Each vehicle I had, I ended up taking back to the dealer to have it fixed. Even if my nearest RV dealer sold the same unit (or a sister twin under the same manufacture but different model - eg, Sunseeker versus Forester). The closer dealer always said they wouldn’t work on warranty work. Extended warranties can be difficult to use. You have to find a dealer that will honor the extended warranty. It isn’t like a car. If you need your Chevy worked on, you can usually take to any Chevy/GM dealer. My Chevy gets its service from a Buick/GMC dealer and the Chevy/GM warranty are accepted. Your Ford E-series unit can be taken to any Ford dealership that services commercial Ford trucks. It is good that the Ford warranty is longer than that of the coach. If you Ford mobile service in your area, you might be able to get them to come out and change the oil on your Ford E-series motorhome. I did it and it cost the same as if I took it to the dealer.

They rounded up the parts and sent a "Tiger Team" to our location and fixed everything. I worked at Chevy and Ford dealers 4 + decades back. The chassis vs RV mfr stuff was an issue then. That RV almost assuredly has an interface, or at least wire splicing to provide sound through speakers built into RV inside and out. Factory sound systems nearly 100% have speaker specific fault codes and Ford may already know the issue is not with front factory fitted speakers on vehicle cab.

We purchased 8 motorhomes over 38 years, 6 used and 2 new. With a two or three year old rig many of the issues had been resolved. Or at least you don’t mind so much because you paid less. But the industry has always been high maintenance purchases. My 1996 Winnebago was the least troublesome, but no slides, no TV, no solar, no levelers, everything manual including the switches. We truly hope channels like Liz’s and all the social media awareness .

THey will get a ticket for loitering or something. Those days are over. Way back in the late 70s a friend of mine's husband got gas at a gas station in his pick up truck. Well the engine was ruined? Ya want to know why? They put water in the gas. They would not pay to have the truck fixed and told them to pound sand to my friend and hubby. So my friend hung two painters boards together with straps. She hung the straps over her shoulders and there was a board in her front and a board on her back. She painted in big letters, "water in the gas". She walked back and forth in front of the gas station all day for a few days - now this is West Palm Beach at a BUSY BUSY intersection. So guess what, they finally gave in and got her husbands engine totally renewed or a new one - I forget. But today if someone did that, they could get them or the city could get them. Belive me, it is true.

Unfortunately, it won’t. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act will legally allow RV manufacturers to attempt an infinite number of “reasonable repair attempts.” On top of that, the lemon laws that exist for things like vehicles do not apply to RVs. And on top of all that, every new RV owner is forced to sign documents that give dealers and manufacturers complete legal indemnity from lawsuits. Good luck finding a lawyer to take a class action RV lawsuit. Do you know why? The cases are unwinnable.

It is very, very sad that these manufacturers can get away with such poor quality. Our two year old Forest River travel trailer has been falling apart left and right since the day we bought it. We've dealt with a broken window, a stuck slideout, a water leak, a flood from the cheap standard faucet, and now a completely broken slideout. The inside of our slide separated from the slide box because there was only one screw holding up our couch and dinette. After taking it to the dealer, they told us that the manufacturer forgot to build supports in the slide floor and walls and that our RV was a manufacturer defect. All of the problems we have faced and are still facing have been caused by poor craftsmanship. IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THESE RV MANUFACTURERS START CARING ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND START BUILDING QUALITY RVS.

Governor Mike Pence of Indiana fully supported deregulation of the RV industry for years. Any legislation that required quality control was quickly abandoned. That is why every manufacturer ended up in Indiana, so they could sell there shoddy product without repercussion. If you don't get it by now, then you should simply send your money to the nearest RV dealer as a gift, and skip all the hassle and heartache of being a NEW RV owner.

Our 1st 2002 Jayco 5th wheel was excellent with no issues what so ever. When we wanted a new model with a different floor plan we never looked at anything but Jayco. We bought a 2018 Eagle HT 5th wheel which from day one turned out to be a lemon. Some of the issues were not caught by the dealer through a supposedly pre delivery inspection. Using the bathroom sink the first time the p-trap leaked all over the undercabinet.. Loose bolts within the slide adjustment, entry steps, lights over dinette. The last straw was a possible frame issue near the gooseneck. I fixed many small items myself because our dealer was 4-5 hours away. Had a local RV tech check for frame flex and he found that the screws holding the floor to the sidewalls in the gooseneck were too short and some missed there mark which led to the side wall separating from the floor. Paid $2000 for this repair as Jayco said the warranty period was up. Traded it shortly after that and bought a TT from a different brand. So far so good with our new TT.

I hate it for these folks. They seem like good people. Their RV is the definition of a "Lemon". All states need to adopt "Lemon Laws" for RVs, especially motorized RVs. These things are so outrageously expensive and overpriced that there's no reason that the manufacturer can't hire more quality control people. The dealerships also needs to do a REAL inspection before taking someone's money. The lack of regulation for an industry this big, is totally unacceptable and frankly Un-American! Thanks for holding their feet to the fire Liz. Keep it up!

These dealers are having you sign away everything that holds them accountable. At some point, you have to refuse to sign something that will be detrimental to you. Then if they don't want to sell it, you walk out.

My first RV was an old 1958 Divco milk truck. I had just graduated high school and was chomping at the bit to see the world. A candy apple red paint job, cabinets and built in beds I made myself, a few other amenities, and I was off. One of the best times of my life was turning that old milk truck into an RV. It was slow, but it was a hoot to drive. And questions about what a Divco is, go online and check them out.

Unfortunately the Jayco of old is not the Jayco of today. In years past Jayco had a reputation as a quality product as did other long time RV manufacturers however most of those product lines are under the umbrella of one or two conglomerates. A long time ago we had a mid 90's Jayco class c motorhome. It was a well put together RV, never had any issues and really enjoyed it. In late 2007 we got the bug for something bigger and our eyes got bigger than our stomach and we bought a new Jayco Supr C. Our first 3-4 months of ownership it was pretty much in the shop with issue after issue. We struggled with that rv and continuing issues for two years and finally gave up, got rid if it. I was really disapointed with the poor build quality after our positive experience with the first Jayco. In the intervening years we had a couple of other used motorhomes that mostly turned out positive. In 2016 we decided to downsize to a towable and looking back, God help me I don't know why but we ended up choosing a Jayco. We bought a new Jayco Whitehawk. First off we had a few minor issues that were taken care of quickly. After a few months some other issues started to surface one of them being a major problem with the floor. It turned into a nightmare dealing with this. There was a fix for it but the dealers were reluctant to do the repair (pretty much refusing) saying that Jayco would only pay them for about half the time it actually took to do it. I spoke to Jayco customer service reps numerous times who told me "They would work with me on it" take it to your dealer. When I told them no dealer wanted to work on it because they didn't get paid enough for the job they still insisted I take to the dealer, they would work with me. NOT. In the end I got tired of the whole mess (probably their goal in the first place) got rid of it and moved on. I've made a vow I will not touch another Jayco product.

We bought a brand new Fleetwood travel trailer in 2000. That thing was great. Very few issues for 20 years. Then we sold it and bought a new Jayco Alante motorhome in 2020. Wow! I have never seen such poorly manufactured garbage in my life. We had more problems in the first year than we ever have with our Fleetwood, including failure to start (which required a $900 tow to the dealership), trim, literally falling off while driving down the road, electrical outlets that were never hooked up, that annoying whistling sound from a large side window that had to be replaced, etc., etc. So sorry to hear your experience was much worse.

So I’m in the middle of looking for a new truck for our new Rv. Needless to say I am a Ford person, but since Ford refuses to fix the touchscreen and points the finger at Jayco. I think the RV industry has been allowed to do shabby work for way too long. Several things need to be implemented in order to make them responsible; legislation that would create a system of check steps to minimize the number of defective units from ever leaving the grounds of the manufacturer’s. Penalties for defective units and required timeframes to get them corrected. Then if unable to meet those requirements the manufacturer would be required to accept a return of the defective RV and provide the exact same model (including any purchased add one) delivered to the nearest dealer for delivery to the customer at no cost. 17:40
