This was an amazing place to visit. Even though we didn't touch on the paranormal tales attributed to this mound, I must tell you that being alone in the woods at this burial site was very unnerving. I found myself constantly looking over my shoulder as if I was being watched!

There are stories of warriors that protect the burial sites of important Natives. Mostly Chiefs, but she seems to have been rather important too. Many Native stories tell of a time of giants raiding villages and stealing women and children. Things got so bad that the Natives begged for a way to stop the raids. So it happened that only the best, most aggressive warriors were blended with wolves. This worked and the giants were defeated. Now the wolfmen warriors were found to be way too aggressive and a threat to the people.
The Creator was not happy over what was created and when begged to undo what the people created, instead refused. He said they will come and go for long periods of time, traveling between this world and else where.
Now some were chosen to guard sacred sites as I mentioned, but still others come back and roam all over. Some are benign and some are not. As wolf hybrids they can and do form packs.
This is the cryptid known as Dogman. If you've ever seen the movie Van Helsing or the Underworld movies, this is what they look like. The Beast of Bray Road in Wisconsin is also a Dogman.
Given the choice of seeing a Sasqatch or a Dogman, I'd take the Sasquatch.

You were being watched. A female human (without a body) was up on the mound, watching you. Was it "The Princess"? I can't say, as I can't ask a video recording. She stayed nearly on the path. Nearly at the top of the path. Between, and mostly, behind the 2 big trees alongside the path. About 3: 53 to 3:54 she waves happily, as she realizes you are speaking respectfully about her people. And are honoring her and them - by remembering them. She made her QUITE happy, BTW.

I had heard about the earth mounds that were built by several different Native American tribes, but this was the very first time I had heard of an “air burst” similar to what took place in Siberia that completely decimated a huge area of forest. Another great video, John! The only thing wrong with it is that it just wasn’t long enough. 😁

The video looks and sounds great on the iPhone. No problems there! The Hopewell culture sounds like the Algonquin Nation, which is also a larger group of various tribes. My great great grandmother was from the Algonquin tribe itself, and my dad always makes sure to point out the difference. I wish we knew what the Hopewell tribes actually called themselves so we could honor their memories better. Thanks for covering Native history this month! It's so important! ♥

Hi John, yet another wonderful video and story. I had never heard of this, and it was facinating to hear about the Hopewell Culture. I thought when you were doing the video that something was close by you as you were looking around more than usual. That's usually a sign that those that have gone before have come back when you talk and explain there culture as they themselves are "curious about what you are doing." It's amazing that they were sending out, recieving and trading goods that far across the country, and i can only imagine their thoughts on the night the comet destroyed everything. I certaintly do hope that the Indian Princess has found peace, and has moved onto a better place. Also the sound quality and the video were excellent. Thank you for taking us along with you and continuing to share these remarkable stories. I hope you and all the family are well, stay safe on the road, and God bless you all.

I grew up in Stow/Kent area. There was a similar mound in our backyard in the woods. There was a story that Gypsies had robbed some money/jewels. They buried them in a cave that was in that backwoods. However, the cave collapsed with the treasure inside. It looked similar to this mound. Always was curious if there was a cave or it was a mound. Moved away a long time ago to ever find out. It may be a subdivision now.

Awesome coverage of the Hopewell Mound Culture. I've seen the small Serpent Mound at Rice Lake in Ontario, Canada. There is a very good museum there as well as a camp ground. Peterborough, Ontario has endangered native mounds and Petroglyph Park which contains a massive rock covered with glyphs.
Many of the items found in the Mound you visited are almost replicas of items found at Spiro Mounds here in Oklahoma. I'd dare say the same crafter made them. One of the main central and powerful Native trading centers around at the time. Only 3 of the five mounds remain there. The Spiro Mounds are right on the Arkansas River.

Bah, iPhone was NO issues whatsoever. :) Well done, and I learned a lot today that I didn't know. I've brushed the surface of Hopewell but there is a lot for me left to learn so you had awesome timing. Have you seen the Serpent's Mound yet in Adams County? It's on my bucket list of "MUST GO" when there's a combination of car, time, and gas which never seem to happen now that I'm "adult'ing" :) . How many mounds do we have in NE Ohio? I didn't know about the one in Portage (Kim probably could have enlightened me; she hits every park for hikes in a 90 mile radius from Canton!) so there has to be a few I am clueless about.
I also like seeing you have more Patreons. Hopefully more folks can join to help make your trips a bit easier on the gas tank, etc! I saw the post on my main TH-cam page and was like, YAY! Another video! :) Have an amazing day and hopefully this week goes peacefully for you.

Food for thought...Curious History, I believe that there are people who are related to long lost civilizations, who are walking among us this very day. Of course, these living relatives of today may not be aware of their ancestry. So many things can happen very quickly when civilizations are due for change, and that civilizations and traditions can be erased, and all forgotten. It's nothing new for different nationalities to marry up and have mixed children? that's been around for a long, long time. It's nothing bad, things just get lost in the shuffle. Like towns can be lost forever, as well a place of burial for thousands of nameless souls, a cemetery. Lost cemeteries can be discovered almost anywhere, with the town long gone with just stone foundations of what was a home were people lived a long time ago. Ooops! don't trip over the headstones that are probably near-by those old foundations...GREAT PRESETATION BIG GUY, KUTOS! love the channel. signed, Greg the Egg.

Would love to go to the Serpent mound. Unfortunately the car is acting up a bit so traveling that far south is probably not a good idea.
As far as who built it, I think the jury is still out on that one. I hear independent testing was done on it and one test suggests the Fort Ancient Culture and the other test suggests the Adena. I’m perfectly content with thinking one culture started it and the other finished it but I’m sure that people a lot smarter than I am will give us the real answer.

I bring that up because the Bronze Age city of Tall el- Hammam is being excavated and there's evidence that the ruins had been exposed to temps of 3600 plus degrees. Scientists believe that is was a cosmic burst. They also believe that it was the location of the Biblical city of Sodom. Hmmm? Curious. Thank you for another thought provoking piece of History!

I had also heard that Rick. Makes a lot of sense to me. Raining fire and brimstone sounds exactly like an air burst to me!
Thank you for your support as always!

There was some kind of geological/meteorological event around 536 a.D. that's explained on YT Got to go back a view it again. Wonder if there might be a connection or a coincidence, or any correlation at all.

@@CuriousHistoryYT A quick review (YT rarely offers full comprehensive details) seems that volcanism (dominant theory: eruptions in Iceland or Central America similar to, or greater than Mt Tambora, 1815) dimmed insolation, crops failed, famine and disease throughout Europe and eastwards.
Another, less ascribed theory, is a comet impact over / between Europe and the American continents. Similar disruption of society: empires fell, mass human migration.

I do believe Indian mound mall in Newark is built on top of Indian mounds back in the day😡🤬 I always refused since a kid to go to that mall because of that. Local native Ohio Indians I’ve always been interested in because I’ve resided here for except when I lived in Tennessee, stationed in Germany, Afghanistan and Mississippi. Love your videos so so much!❤️ i think also on route 256 left side leaving Pickerington Ohio heading to Baltimore i do believe they built homes on some there too😡.

Thank you Zac! It’s unimaginable to me how we mistreat such important places in the name of progress.
      Thank you for watching!

There was traid with this land starting with ejypt 4000 years ago to get the copper out of michiganthis was used to make bronze age equipment this traid ended with the fall of rome by the muslems. Most of the sailers would have been israelites.
