    I’m six weeks postop & finally going back to work in two days and I had an amazing recovery.!I didn’t have too much pain but I did live on a lot of water & crackers mostly the first and second day, which by the end of the second day home I did have some chicken soup and not from the can lol, I was surprised how easy it was to go to the bathroom immediately after I woke up from surgery, my scars are healing very well I didn’t have too much of that gas pain everyone talks about that goes up to your shoulder I didn’t experience none of that however I did have some pain & the best way to describe it, it felt like having to fart but with a huge pain going along with it to be completely and entirely honest. Other that everything went very well for me, my surgery was at 7:30 in the morning I was home by 12:00. I laid up right for the first day after I got home all the way until the evening until I read that you can lay flat on your back and at that point it was much easier to fall asleep rather than trying to fall asleep sitting up. I haven’t actually laid on my stomach yet because I am a stomach sleeper however after the third or fourth week I was able to lay on my side which was a huge comfort I also wasn’t dependent on pain pills anymore after the fifth day which I was just prescribed for five days however I felt I didn’t need them anymore after I would say the fourth if I did have any type of pain at all I would just take Motrin which I was prescribed by my doctor and that’s it overall amazing experience as far as recovery. I do recommend walking to heal faster after the second or third day I walked around in my yard very little not too much but after the fourth or fifth even the third day I started walking a little bit more gradually every single day instead of just laying up in bed.

      My recovery is very simular to your and I'm very independent and strong will, so I really listen to my body and what I know works for me. As of this blog, this is my fourth day from surgery. I am sore from the surgery, but I'm walking around, drinking plenty of water (Fiji) water. It has Magnesium in it so I've always found it to be soothing to drink. In closing, I'd like to share, I had no signs that a hysterectomy was needed. I hadn't had a period in I know at least 15 years, all my pap smears came back normal. All my blood work, normal, no nothing until a week ago, taking a shower getting ready for the day, prepared a salad, stating eating it, then the cramps came and they came with no mercy. Buckled me down to my hands and knees. My husband called the ambulance, they immediately thought it was either my appendix or gallstones. They shot me up with a high power pain drug (Fentanyl). It lasted maybe 8 mins, long enough to get me in the emergency room. The pain got worse. I was crying and begging anyone to take it out. They administered Morphin. It lasted maybe 10 mins..I'm screaming again. I'm the meantime, they were taking, blood work, CT scan, EKG, MRI, urine and still pumping in pain meds. Then they gave me Delodin. It lasted 5 mins. I really got scared as I'm not a drug addic and for the most part, in good physical shape. I said being sarcastic that maybe I'm pregnant. We thought surgery not, but she doctor ran the ultrasound anyways. Then she came back and ran it again with an ultrasound in my vaginal, thats when they found the cyst/mass one my left tube she said was big as a grapefruit. They called in the emergency surgery team, but the doctor that specialize in this procedure was out of town and would not be back until that Tuesday. They kept me overnight to manage the pain and I went home. Fast forward, I had the surgery this past Tuesday, complete hysterectomy. The doctor share with me and my husband that the mass on the left, was large as a grapefruit with dried blood in it, and the mass on the right was double the size of the grapefruit, with dried blood and puss formulating and the mass was "twisted" like a rag. Quickly as I know this is long, had I not mentioned being pregnant, that caused them to do the ultrasound, where would I be today? My blood strain showed no signs of cancer, but I guess we will see what the other findings will be. As I understand, ovarian cancer is a "silent killer" and we need to make sure proper test are being ran when its time for your yearly check ups. The doctors also said, these mass had been there for quite some time. I'm just thankful that poison is out of me now. Just wanted to share and God bless the readers.

      @@s.b.6418 it last honestly I’d say a few days to almost a week. It was probably the worst pain I had over anything but tolerable lol

      @@s.b.6418 it will trust me, at first it was the worst but then went down slowly, I drank tons and tons of water for the first few weeks and kept up w my meds and took Motrin when the norcos ran out, which I was only prescribed enough for the first 5 days, by the fifth I didn’t even need them, however yes, it’ll pass soon enough. I was worried that I was going to get the shoulder pain everyone kept talking about but instead it felt like it was right up my butt! I was like, wtf is this! It’ll pass trust me, just deep breaths and walk more little by little. I pray you have a speedy, safe, & healthy recovery ❤️‍🩹. I’m two months post op yesterday and feel great! 💜

    Your list was very helpful. There were some things i didn't have, so thank you. You're looking good. I appreciate you ladies so much sharing your journey and that helps the rest of us getting ready for that journey. The belly band works better for people with larger stomach, it keeps everything tight as some people get that feeling of water moving around in your stomach. I like that heating pad design as i get neck and shoulder pain. And a good idea also is to buy from amazon like a week before surgery, that way you can return stuff you don't need. The Lozenges some say it was helpful for sore throat after they remove the tube after surgery.

    Thank you for sharing! Everything on your list is a big yes, especially the crackers and the grabber :) I highly recommend one other item that I could not have made it through without, from Amazon I purchased a Pregnancy Pillow, U Shaped Pregnancy Body Pillow. It was the best thing I got, a lifesaver for comfort and sleeping. You can sit up with it or lie flat. Wishing everyone out there a speedy recovery!

I'm walking with a Walker for support. Thank God for my husband he never left my side. Your channel came across and I decided to watch. Wish I'd seen this before my surgery to better prepare myself.

      Thanks so much For your video. It has been very helpful. Your lists of what to have near you are great.
      I had my surgery on Thursday and now it’s Sunday. They did not keep me overnight they released me at 6pm. I did not want to go home because it’s 90 minutes from the hospital. I got a handicap accessible hotel room that was 2 miles from the hospital in case anything went wrong. The handicap accessible room was helpful because there were bars to hold onto next to the toilet and for the shower. We got two queen beds so I’d have my own bed the first two nights. When I woke up from the anesthesia my throat hurt horribly. I got lozenges and throat spray and I did need them the first two nights.
      I really needed the heating pad Saturday evening when we got home. I’ve mostly had it on my back also. I was told to hold onto pillows and push them against my stomach when I started to cough. Coughing hurts really bad.
      Being really sleepy and tired and hurting makes it hard to keep track of seven medicines, what to do and not to do. If you could have someone help you with that please do. I ended up making a notebook and writing the times I was taking the medicine and the times I should next take the medicines and check them off as I did.
      I’ve also been writing down the foods I eat each day. Right now I’m eating a lot less than I usually do. My husband made me soup last night. I’m going to have oatmeal and berries tonight. He’s been taking very good care of me and is doing the laundry and dishes. I really appreciate that.

    I am 65 yrs old, and, am 3 weeks post-op. I was fighting all the way NOT to have a total hysterectomy! I started bleeding in April, then again in May so I went to GYN. blood work and biopsies were done. I had a 6 inch tumor on my right ovary. All tests came back negative. My GYN sent me to a surgeon who told me to have a hysterectomy. I was not convinced. Well, turns out I had stage 1 ovarian cancer! Surgeon said 2% of women my age find it! Thirteen lymph nodes were removed and I had severe bruising up and down and around my abdomen ! Wondering if anyone else had this experience! All a bit painful but healing slowly! God is so good!

    Yes! Cough drops for sore throat! Great idea using empty pill bottle for chap sticks and thats a good idea for your bag or purse later. Girl, I had my grabber too 😅I couldn’t take ibuprofen but I took tylenol and muscle relaxers. I had a similar tray. I hate my belly band. I wore one they gave me at the hospital. I wore it a few times the first couple of days but it felt like it was too constricting and added lower abdominal pressure.

    Out of everything you named I only used hydrocodone and stool softener. I showered the second day. I'm 1 week post-op I no longer need any of the things I took. The first day later that evening I was up walking around a little bit here and there. After day 2 I drunk lots of water so I had to make a lot of trips to the bathroom. I'm no longer in pain but I do have discomfort. I'm still sleeping on the couch because if feels more comfortable right now. I do have bad gas pain.

    I am 5 weeks post hysterectomy and I went shopping 8 and 10 days after and my doc said I was supposed to be testing for 6 weeks so I’ve been trying really hard to chill but staying in the bed has been hard as I pulled a stitch or two from bending and heaven knows what else lol. I did take ibuprofen every few hours, but now I take it when needed. I used a band for the first few days and it helped. I took the stool softener twice and it did nothing . The grabber is an excellent idea and the table. Also keeping all pills and everything in a bag on the bedside table is another excellent idea only I spend most of my days on the recliner in my living room so it goes with me lol.

    Everyone seems to talk about Gas-X. However, I had a robotic laproscopic hysterectomy with ovaries, fallopian tubes, two lymph nodes, cervix and abdominal fluid taken for biopsy, and never felt any gas whatsoever. I have no idea if this is unusual or not, but I had no trouble at all. Albeit, one week later, I am still a bit sore bending over, and the lower right portal hurts from time to time. Have a long drive to see my Oncologist tomorrow, so not looking forwards to going over any bumps in the road, even though I wear a binder and put a pillow under the seatbelt. Going for short walks down the driveway across the road to the mailbox, and getting up to let my dog out. Feeling better each day. I love anything ginger, and drink lots of tea. I have an electric recliner, which helps a lot and is made more cosy with the electric heating throw which can be draped over shoulders or is long enough to cover from chin to toes. A toilet riser and grabber both came free from the Lions club. The hospital provided the binder, better than having to pay $50.00 for one, but I had to ask for it.

      @tammy3721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For robotic and laparoscopic surgery they put gas inside your abdominal cavity to see things better. The gas x really won't help because it's not had in your intestines. So I never understood the gas x recommendation.

    • @sjordan7085
      @sjordan7085 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tammy3721When I told my Oncologist, I didn't have any gas at all, she gave a thumbs up and said she worked very hard to removed it. She's a professor, so I was very fortunate to have her. The woman sharing the room with me, said she had painful gas in her shoulders, which I was told is very common.

    I had a hysterectomy in September of 2022 and when I was released the next day, I was told to go to the pharmacy, and the had prescriptions for stool softeners, tylenol and the other type of pain reliever out there (advil or the other stuff), oxycodone and something else I can't remember, so when I was staying with my mom the first week of my recovery, it was so cute, she was marking down on a piece of paper when and what I was taking. I didn't get any gas pills though, and even though I had gas, I didn't have as bad as it sounds you had it. I just farted and didn't have any body pains that I can recall. Wish I would have known about the gas pills, though as I don't like to fart because I find it unladylike 😃 My doctor told me to get up and walk because I could get blood clots so after a couple of days, I started walking my mom and dad's driveway, then the street in front of their house up to the stop sign which wasn't very far as they live on the corner, and I gradually increased my walking and lost about 5 -8 pounds.

    Your video is super helpful. I feel I'm prepared for my total hysterectomy coming up next month in July. I'm a little nervous, because unlike so many blessed women in the comments, I do not have a very helpful husband. I'm afraid I will be mopping and cleaning house by week 2. I've had 3 children, and the last 2 were csecs, and the worst time of my life, when it should have been the happiest. Basically left on my own with a newborn and other children with next to no help. My husband did occasionally do a load of dishes, he did cook a few times for the kids, and I saw him sweep maybe 2 or 3 times out of the 6 weeks I was supposed to be laid up. The house would get so so so bad, that I felt I had no choice but to actually get up and start cleaning. The children were literally walking through filth. People wouldn't believe me. I actually took pictures as evidence that I still have on my hard drive. Crumbs on the floor, dirty diapers on the floor, dirty dishes on the floor, sticky spills, toys mixed with crumbs, piles and piles of laundry. It was my worst nightmare. I pray to God that I will have strength to get through the recovery process of this surgery, because I know for sure I'm going to be on my own practically, with 3 children, 3 dogs, as well as other chickens and ducks. God help me!

    Tomorrow will make 1 week since I had my hysterectomy and I will say this is a great list. I have most of the same things. I think the cough drops is just in case you cough cuz chileeeee I coughed yesterday and it was so painful. So now I have my cough drops ready. I need to do better with resting though. I’m always on the go so being on bed rest is probably the hardest part for me.
