Thanks for sharing! I'm NOT a speed runner, but I just love this game and feel compelled to play again (at least once) every few years. But I always hated the unskippable cut-scenes which kept from playing as much as I imagined... Totally love the Hojo/Midgar skip (even I can do it), but that damn Kalm sequence... I hate it. I liked your original video describing Kurma's original method (nerdy details!) but it seemed too impractical, except for dedicated speedsters. But your new video seems like I could do the Kurma2.0. I can't wait to try!! Regardless of how my adventure turns out, big thanks for sharing with us
This is awesome to hear! Definitely check out Kuma's latest tutorial in the video description for the newest/easiest technique. That said, going through the Kalm sequence does only take about 20-25 minutes if you mash through all the text and run straight to each goal :D
fun thing to note on this, if you come down too low onthe 2nd loop in the marsh, you get stuck on the mountain, also... i got into the mountain then got an encounter... and got stuck in the mountain, the joys lol
There are a few things it could be, most often it is that you have the wrong triangles loaded as Cloud. Before getting on the chocobo and starting the movement, it's important you only walk on the first couple ground triangles in front of the Mythril Mines cave, and then after the first dismount, it's important to only nudge the mountain in the correct range, not too high or low. What I'd suggest is check out my newer video on the skip which is both a technical explanation as well as a tutorial. It also has an updated movement path which is faster. Here ya go: th-cam.com/video/XKdSPzWCQKY/w-d-xo.html If you still have any trouble, comment there specifically where you're getting stuck and I'd be glad to help further.
I should also mention this is part 25 of a series I'm doing for the whole game, and the important position of the chocobo dismount in front of the mines I'm talking about is detailed in part 24
This clip works in tons of places, it's just only been found to be useful in a couple so far. For example, one person actually managed to cross the water over to Temple of the Ancients, but without having done the date scene yet, you have no keystone and Tseng isn't there to give it to you, so you can't actually do anything.
Skip isn't working for me, I get up to the point where I should clip through the mountain, all of my positioning and set up is right as far as I can tell but instead of clipping through the mountain I softlock
Most of the time, this means when you bumped the mountain on the first floaty dismount, you bumped it too high and stored the incorrect triangle. This video is oudated, so I'd suggest checking out the new one which also has a technical description of how the trick works which may help understand why this is. The new video also has updated chocobo movement which is faster: th-cam.com/video/XKdSPzWCQKY/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps, and drop a comment on the new video if you still have any questions!
So what happens if you just skip Kalm, get a chocobo, and go to Junon normally? I get how this is faster than the whole Kalm sequence, but if you already got your chocobo, can't you just continue with the game normally and get through that cave, then to Junon?
If you try to go through Mythril Mines before doing Kalm, the party stops you and forces you to go back. This is actually why specifically at this point in the game on this specific patch of grass, the chocobo stays for you to get back on when it would normally run away. It's so you wouldn't then be stuck on the wrong side of the marsh, which is funny because that's the crux of how this trick works.
Yes, when you do the dolphin jump, Barret "takes away" the PHS and you get it back after the cargo ship, so if you skip Kalm, you will still get the PHS when he gives it back at that point.
Yes, though I've heard the movement for reloading the regions may work slightly differently. I *think* this version does work, but the "2.2" updated version in the description has to be adjustes for PC but I'm not 100% on the details.
That moment when the plot of kalm skip is more interesting than the kalm plot itself
I just saw this for the first time while watching the current world record speedrunner do it and I was not even aware of it being a thing.
This is so crazy that things like this are still being discovered

Either I suck or this is hard to pull it off!
ahhhh so cool
I'm good, waiting for 3.0. ;)
Haha! Check out the link in the video description for Kuma's newest tutorial. It's kind of like a 2.1 that's incredibly easy and consistent.

dude tell me why every time I walk on the mountain I GET SOFT LOCKED!

thanks for the vid. its gotta be faster right?
I'm wondering if instead of dismounting at the mines, you can somehow do it on some beach corner and get onto shallow water

Hey crap I just learned the old way I didn't know this existed
Make sure to look at Kuma's video linked in the description for the NEW new way!

@@DashRetro For me it always soft locks on the first bump
Where's the next possible skip do you think

@@DashRetro Oh thank you for explaining! That is probably why this was exploited and found in the first place!
Can it be done on the ps1
When you skip kalm do you still get the party cell phone?

@@DashRetro oh yeah forgot about that. Nice!
