Great tutorial Pharraway. You always on point 🤝
Thanks Sprayway
@pharraway how well do u think this metal flake would look over black basecoat for 1 and then over brilliant blue. Painting my 05 civic black with front bumper, back bumper, spoiler, mirrors and door handles blue. Please let me no if this would look good for what I'm doing. Thank you for vid
Is it just me or is there something very soothing about watching the paint be sprayed on?! I'm like ah, that's better!
I always use a suction feed gun when applying Metalflake to avoid clumping in the pot I put a few ball bearings in the pot and agitate now and then, it gives a better distribution of flake.
I'm 75, when I was about 19 I used Metalflake brand flake, it was real Aluminum flake, these new Mylar flakes are way better, more sparkle, with a Binks #7 gun, .086 tip and needle.
All the materials cost about $500.00. In lacquer, RM or Ditzler. "Shit" it was a lot of work.
Your doing a great job, keep it going !! Great Video
I still have my binks #7 as memory
I think there was a distinct difference in using the light color sealer . Your first coat of silver popped , and you could already see your reflection 😍
Man that looks so beautiful, I have a thing for metal flake and that just looks so damn cool what a fab job nice one Pharraway you certainly are a metal flake master that’s for sure 👌👍
Man, I've been waiting on this video!! I watched your metal flake tutorial with the file cabinet like 10 times while restoring a bass boat and applied that info to the boat. Came out real nice. Next I'm going to attempt to spray my 350z which needs repainted. Thanks so much for your assistance.
Looking wonderful, I never got it all off my hose! It really looks amazing. I can't wait for the rest sir.
That is true
You got integrity redoing all that work. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks brother
Perfectly done. I like the attention to detail
A whole lot of flake, nice. I remember when I use to go with my buddies when they were spraying candies and I'd ask how much flake are you using. They would just say a jar or 2. It would glow. Awesome job brother Thanks
Great video..both You and #SprayWayCustoms motivate me to spend money I don't have to buy materials to practice with..
Thanks for the video Bro.
Bro that's looking 🔥 right now so much flake can't wait to see the end result, that bucket of flake would have cost a pretty penny
Ya it did
I don't envy you on this redo ! so much time in this kind of job I feel for you my friend, but I know in the end it will be an awesome job and the customer will love it . great work
Thank you brother
Very cool Mr. Pharraway can’t wait to see what this looks like out in the sun when it’s finished hopefully the customer likes it this time.
Love the look of that matte black gun you were using
Thanks it's the Walcom carbonio 360
Goes to show you don’t need a singing and dancing spray booth to do a awesome paint job love your work keep up the good work 👍
Thanks brother
Super tutorial video came out great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tip's there always appreciated 👍🏻
I wish I would have used plastic on the floor ! Now I gotta pressure wash lol
Nice one Pharaway 👍🏼 I love flake but it makes a mess ! I can't imagine how much worse the mess would be if using a flake buster gun to blow dry flake on a wet bed of clear. Cheers !
I'm actually going to be doing a helmet the same way thanks for this video.
Gracias amigo por compartir tus conocimientos, he aprendido mucho de tí, saludos cordiales desde Veracruz México.
Another great video Pharraway you really make it look so easy laying the metal flakes but I would say you have to be careful to lay nice even coats keeping your overlap consistent to avoid patches or stripes but I've never used it so not sure tbh.
Is the intercoat clear just a normal clear solvent basecoat (basecoat binder) Pharraway? and can you add the flake into 2K clearcoat avoiding the need to lay the flake first then clearcoat 🤔🤷♂️ great to see you pop in on Tony's live chat last Friday mate 🙏🙏👍 John UK.
That is correct it's an basecoat binder
Nice work my friend Very Nice. I am very interested in the Metal Flake as I want to use it on a few Guitars I have designed and I am going to build. Thanks for expertese. Are you going to show the process when you Candy it? I like the stuff a lot of you guys do by taping off and etc. My sister boy friend when I was a kid LIke 1972 he had on his brand new Chrysler Charger I think. I was only like 7 or 8 years old but that was a Bad Car, what power. lol
Great video with the best advice from experience.
That's a crap ton of flake. It's gets everywhere and is a pain to clean up. Great video bud. Thanks for the tips.
Very cool video.
I bought a Gorilla Ladders adjustable height platform (model #GLWP-55A-2) from Home Depot.
It's awesome for sanding and spraying roofs, you should check it out.
No more moving step ladders around.
Looking forward to the candy stage, thanks for the videos.
Yes I love them I have one but wife was using it at the time
I will be doing this when i paint my 70 chevy c10 truck candy with the flakes. How many gallons of inter coat clear did you use for the cutlass? Do you think 2 gallons of inter coat clear and 1 gallon of reducer is to much for a truck? I will be using HOK products. Great videos as always. Keep them coming.
First off your attitude about this redo is way more positive than mine would have been!
Second, did you spray 210 clear on it? only reason I ask is I sprayed that clear last week on a project to bury some graphics and I think I may have found my new go to clear. I have sprayed all the majors for a long time and mostly SPI but that 210 from urechem layed out really nice. I have to test it some more on some small projects before I commit to laying it on a complete car but overall I was very pleased.
Yes I did
That looks awesome! Very informative as well, thanks!
Looking good Pharraway!
What a mess LOL.
Good video!
Yup its messy
Pharraway I’ve been watching this since you started this job. What about the jams and under the hood did you do it already or are you doing it later? Can’t wait for the next video. Keep it up 👍🏽 👍🏽👍🏽
Will be doing it next
Thank you.
Badass paintjob and tutorial !!
nice tutorial but i could never spray in such a tight space i have to have more room lol
I wish I had that too
Nice Work ! Pharraway
Perfect! Let's lay some graphics now.
Hey, great video, very informative! I wanna ask how do you feel about bigger flakes, like .015? is it worth it? Thanks
It's just a bit harder to cover, but will give you the same effect
Another ?? On the inside of the door jams do you do the same process on the inside of the doors??
yes
Did the fans just move the overspray to the next room. You should filter the exhaust.
Will do
Thank you for the awesome tutorial..
Can I spray an Orange (like a Dukes of Hazzard) then put gold flake over it??
Yes you can will look awesome
Great video, when do you remove the plastic covering off the car? Do you have to pass a knife over the edges before peeling it off to avoid tearing the paint as you remove the plastic?
Yes
How would gold flake be, is it the same as the other colored flake you explained about how it sometimes gets orange peel.
Yes you will get orange peel with any flake
Bro. Pharraway what were the air pressures set on both your compressor and gun when spraying the flake ? Thank you for your videos. God bless you.✌🏻♥️🙏🏻✝️
the compressor is at 90psi and the gun is at 28psi
Im using .015 and .025 metal flake mixed together on my mazda b2000
Awesome 👌
Amazing man, been following you’re videos for a minute and learnt a lot!
How many OZs of flake did you end up using on this? Just curious as I’ll be painting my roof of my rodeo will 1/2 pound of silver flake be good ?
1pound in tot
Thanks!
What size is the flakes? What grit you sand the flakes down with? I would like to see you do a mixture of candy, flakes, pearl with just regular clear all together to show people the effects it brings. I did it the first time I ever painted a car and I was amaze of the result and time saving from doing all separately. I did not sand the flakes till after 3 coats of clear and then re-sprayed a final coat of clear...tell me what you think and if this could be a consideration in one of your next videos.
It's. 008
Just from my experience, if you use bigger flakes 3-4 coats of clear won’t burry the flakes, but I understand what your saying about saving time.
@@edwardzx7 ya on the next video I'll show how to smooth everything out for that candy
very good work Män. very good
No candy blue on this 1 huh, just going with silver metal flake only ? Looks killer brother ! 👍👌🙏😉
He'll get to the candy.
Yes it will be kandy killa blue from tamco
👍
That looks amazing 👏 😍
Stunning!
Could you use black to spray metalflake over to see full coverage better or does the silver metallic base coat work fine, thanks
You can use black but I prefer silver
Ur hand after the 1 coat of metal flake was hilarious hhaha
Lol
Great job bro… very nice!!
Damn I’ve never heard that explanation for why silver metal flake is used. Makes sense
Was this .008 flake? Looks nice!
Dope Tutorial 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just Awesome ..
That is awesome...
loverly job very nice
Hey boss, you do beautiful work. I hope I'm as good as you one day 💪⚜️I was wondering, what is the name of the gun you used to spray the flake? I noticed it was a silver gun rather than the black EVO.
Thank you ahead of time! You are very generous
Also, as a professional painter, what is your opinion on DRY flake guns? Rather than wet. I hear it's easier to clean when it's not welded to my shop tools lol
I made the mistake of not covering walls and floor lol had flake everywhere
Oh yes it's messy
Solid dye 👍💅 perfecto :))
So if I was spraying a candy color, would I spray the candy before the flake directly on to the Silver or after the metal flake coat? Which is best way?
After the silver
@@PHARRAWAYWould it still be ok if I sprayed the intercoat and flake on to the silver base and then sprayed the candy color over the intercoat and flake? Thanks!
Could I apply a metal flake coat with paint and then apply clear coat afterwards?
exelent job
What are your thoughts on using a silver sealer then straight to flake? (Eliminates1 step, the base , extra thickness mills)
That will work fine
Will a metallic teal base coat work over the metal flake or you have to use candy paint only? I appreciate your videos and appreciate your work you get down bro. Im going to spray my ride with metal flake silver like this video and was going to spray the metallic teal base coat over the metal flake but I have to see if that'll work or not thanks
You would have to use candy paint
@@PHARRAWAY Thank you for responding back man I appreciate you bro rite on homie thanks!!👊🏾
At what pressure did you spray the metal flakes at?
29psi
Beautiful!!!
Is it ok to use silver metal flakes over a white metallic base coat?
Yes it will be fine
Could you please tell me what model gun you used and what needle, and where to get one. I seem to remember it was a husky but can't find the other video
I like mixing .004 .008 and .015 and use either a dry flake gun but I got a Roth flake gun with a 3mm tip and believe it’s to much any suggestions on gun and nozzle size for .015 ?
I use a 2.0 with that
I have heard you can use inner coat clear. Sand next day.
Can't take any chances with this custom job
Yes you can. Then you won't have to wait a week for it to cure before flow coat .
I don't see it possible to bury that big flake with intercoat clear, that's just a thin clear basecoats with no real build. That's the purpose of this.
@@ojscustoms9251 can't use the cheap stuff my brother. That is what the stuff is made for. To lock it down or used as a carrier. HOK makes a good intercoat clear.
how many coats of metal flake is normally put on it sound like this guy wanted extra asking for a friend lol
I added 3 coats
That's some SPARKLE!
You're the man 👍
do you get much static elec... in the room with plastic ??
no not at all
Awesome job 👌
Thanks brother
So the candy comes after the clear??
only if you apply flakes
What psi you use to spray the metal flake and the clear
The metal flake was sprayed at 30psi and clear at 33psi
Why not the candy over the flake, then final clear?
There are a lot of ways to do this process. With a large heavy flake there always a chance of sanding through and exposing the flake while trying to flatten it out. This is just the safer way to handle it. Again, plenty of people spray it all in one sitting, nothing wrong with that.
That is correct brother
Do you wet sand after the weeks cure time?
Yes sir! Bad ass bros!
Thanks brother
Cool
👍🏾 Yo Pharraway my first time shooting flake I shot .008 dipspade blue flake couple weeks ago and used the green Harbor freight gun with a 1.4 tip, it sprayed it out great no clogs or issues. It was just some speaker grilles. Can you explain why you used a 1.9?
It's just preference brother, but I do use a lot of flake in the cup
the silver was mixed with intercoat ?
No it's just plain silver with heavy metallics
what happened to using the blue candy?
That's coming up soon
Love it bro
The ratio on the intercoat does not help, as long as You dont say how much You mix!
It's about 1qt of inter-coat clear to 4oz of metal flake
This is the comment I was looking for. I was thinking the same thing. Thanks.
how much of the inner coat clear was used?
1gal
Note to self…Spray metallic flake outside!
What size masking film I neeed ?
Need
I get mine in Amazon
What sand do us use..thanks😊
320 grit
Buenas tarde. Esta pintando mi camioneta con metal flake cuando aplique todo que. Quite. La sinta. Se vino la pintura. Que. Es lo que ise. Mal.
Cuanto tiempo dejaste que secara
@@PHARRAWAY si. Lo deje. Secar tiempo lo que pienso. Que fue. Que. Llovio. Y se mojo donde lo temia. No se. Si talves. Eso. Sea
From start to finish about how many hours did it take you ?
5hr
😍😍😍😍😍
can i get away with no sanding...lets say if i use micro flake?
your thoughts on this...
you the best!
Yes you can
How much you charge to paint a c3 corvette ?
You can email me at pharrawaypaint@gmail.com
@@PHARRAWAY ok and thanks
I wish I would have used plastic on the floor ! Now I gotta pressure wash lol
You are correct
