I'm on the verge of doing this with a mostly original m38a1. I have to know; how in the world does the gas pedal linkage get to the other side of the engine, is it just parts supplied in the overland kit? also, how many gauges are you able to reuse? I want to stay 24v (can still jumpstart my other military vehicles, and its just a cool original feature) and don't see why I can't reuse the temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, military voltmeter (I'll have to lose my current ammeter as the jeep originally has a generator) and fuel level gauge should be reusable since I'm using the stock tank. Obviously speedo since I'm keeping the original t90a/d18 setup too. Just hope the speedo cable isn't blocked by anything on the new engine.
oh! and the start switch, I saw something next to the original start switch. I assume its just an aftermarket switch that pushes in and you put it down there to maintain some originality, which I love. And you still use the original On/Off switch as a battery shutoff? The more original the better.
@@axispowerdiesel either someone is removing it or I can't figure this out, but my reply with email keeps disappearing. I will look elsewhere to contact you guys. Are you still watching replies to this video?
Wow perfect swap..i m thinking of doing also mine...but here in Greece the Kubota engines are highly priced...please do u use the 24volt electric system? Any photos of yr modification???
Yes it does, 24v alternators are available and you can actually reuse the 12v denso starter. It cranks twice as fast but has been working just fine so far...the chinese 24v starters don't seem to work very well. I'll make another video of all the photos from the build
@@axispowerdiesel it will be s huge help for me if u send me photos of yr modification.my email is vzisimos@yahoo.gr . I have already sent an email to Overland to tell me the shipping cost here in Greece....hmmm hopefully not too high... anyway...to be honest this is the best diesel modification i have ever seen... congratulations...did u use the oil bath filter??? How is on the road....the speed??? Does the engine has enough power as the original one??? The option of turbocharger is a good idea???
nice job, mine has a perkins 4.108 diesel . spanish military cj3 b mounted these motors, lovely

Hey what’s the part number on that belt ?
Great looking swap. Is it idling a little high?
Yeah it was about 1050 in the video, down around 800 now
So no more 4x4? and your battery is 24v?
Still 4x4, same transmission and transfer case. 24v system fully intact
what altenator did you use?
24v and matching bracket supplied from overland diesel
Does the 538 gearing work okay with this engine?
Yeah it works nicely
What is your top hwy speed?
I'd estimate it at about 55mph, which feels like the end of the world in an M38
@@axispowerdiesel
NICE!
Well...now. I know on the video it shows NA.
@@axispowerdiesel can confirm, was rolling around 55 in my M38 down the 5 in LA just asking to die hahaha
