The harmonics in "Crow River Waltz" were just nailed, man they sound good on the Božo. The middle section of Jesu is so beautiful and powerful. Jack Fig... well no words man....just pure quality.
I have listened to the original hundreds of times and always wished I could see how it was played. Wish fulfilled! I will return to this video many, many times. Thank you so much!
I went to my local Karma Records store the day after seeing Leo for the first time. Wore several vinyl copies out and have kept the CD version with me for decades. I always loved watching people react to this.
This is stupendous Mr Lardner. The only thing missing is that raucous applause at the end. Which you deserve also by the way. I remember the eighties and nineties i would sit by my Dads tall speakers and play the live side of the double album. You have really mastered Kottke.
To be honest, I considered that a non starter for anyone.Mr. Lardner has done something pretty amazing I think I would like to see him and Leo play these songs together, if that has not already happened.
Great work Andrew! Really beautiful and very very close to the record. Thanks for keeping these beautiful songs from around 50 years ago alive. Reminds me of the first time I attended one of Leo’s concerts in 1977. I later learned the Crow River Waltz in lessons, and play the other two by ear. It helps me to watch you REALLY play the other two so I can improve. Thanks, and keep up the beauty!!
Like many others here, the Armadillo album was etched in my soul in 1970. I was a 12 string player then and my head exploded the second the needle came down on the record. Ive performed many of these songs, including this medley. A hat tip to you my friend. Now do Coolidge Rising, which I believe is not possible for us mortals to master!
Brings back some great memories! Leo would often end his set with this medley or use it as the encore. Always brought'em to their feet. Great performance, Andy!
Seven minutes of pure magic!!! The most beautiful and difficult medley ever. A wonderful guitar with a wonderful and incredible sound. Andrew I think you did something crazy with this execution, I think your hands need a rest. Compliments!!!
@@andrewlardner It is usually YES or Beethoven or Tchaikovski so you are in very good company. I have seen Leo a few times, and would go see you too if you tour. Your interpretations of his music are wonderfully spot on
Stunning. I’m lying down on my porch sofa while recovering from surgery last week (ruptured quadriceps tendon) and this just took me away, no pain killers needed. Thanks and keep up your wonderful artistry.
Absolutely beyond anything I have ever heard with the exception of Leo. Did you transcribe this? I just don’t know what to say….every nuance you have captured. I will join your Patreon solely to recognize you. I’ll never be able to play it! Also thanks for keeping John Fahey alive for me. Buy you are truly a virtuoso. Thanks my friend
Thank you Charles. Yes I transcribed the whole thing. I really could have used another couple weeks to get it ready and a little cleaner, but thank you. Love Fahey too as you have probably noticed!
Playing around still to see what I like on this guitar. This recording was 80/20 .013-.058. I like silk and steels on the b45 because they are braced so light. I doubt they would be enough tension to drive the top on the bozo, though can’t rule out until trying.
That’s got everything but that loud “splonk” from the version on “My Feet are Smiling”. Some of you newer listeners might not know what I’m talking about as it was largely eliminated during re-recoding but for those of you that listened to the original vinyl a lot will know what I mean. By god it’s note for note except for the splonk! I guess a case could be made for somehow including it as an auditory historical artifact but.... LOL. Thanks. It is fantastic.
I haven't listened to the vinyl in a while but there's a cough or something loud right after one of the harmonics that I thought would be funny to try to edit in. I ended up too overwhelmed at the end of the month to try to finish everything I wanted to do with this one.
I couldn't tag you in the comment section for the video, but you would appreciate "Eric Lugosch with Bozo 12-string guitar." He plays an excellent cover of I've been on the outside loving you. Cheers.

FANTASTIC! The best interpretation of Leo's work I've ever heard. Keep it up!

And the crowd goes nuts!
Outstanding performance! The best Kottke renditions I've ever heard. The Bozo is incredible.
This is a tour de force, thank you!
That Božo sounds even better than it looks... which is really saying something. Gorgeous guitar and playing!
This is the pinnacle; the best that Leo (and you!) have ever done!!

Perfect... 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Absolutely fabulous Andrew! When I close my eyes, I can’t tell if it’s you or Leo! And … my favorite Kottke piece to boot 👍

Couldn’t imagine what it would have been like to be there for this in the 70s.

Fantastic! Nailed the sound!
This is one I have been hoping would arrive! My favourite Kottke work.
Today is the day!
@@andrewlardner q - apart from the intro, is the Jack Fig arrangement any different to the Stropes arrangement?
Yes quite a bit. That version is based on the way he played it in the early 80s, at that time a little more advanced and more of a standalone piece.
superb, absolutely superb!!!
i was hoping youd cover jack fig at some point. Never did I think youd do the whole medley. Impressive as always!
The overtones from that guitar are wonderful
WOW..........absolutely spot on!! 👍
Lovely! Love that Bozo guitar sound! (Bozo Podunavac is my country man. I missed my chance to meet him - one of my many regrets.)
Well done, it's difficult to imagine a more perfect cover. Thanks for your monumental efforts researching and preserving these songs.
Wow, incredible !
That is one ornate twelver my friend...thanks as always.
…..Excellent.
Extraordinario!, felicitaciones por esa interpretación y la dinámica con 12 cuerdas! gracias Andy!
Now you've done it! This was so good it made me cry
Aw thanks

Bravo!
Beautiful, great birthday present. Thank you
Happy birthday!
Wonderful to hear this today - thanks Andrew!
Great job I was just looking for more Leo 12 string songs to learn
Just amazingly well done - bravo to you sir!!!
That's what i wanted amazing
You‘re a genius 👋🙌
I've struggled with the Jack Fig part for years but watching your video has made it possible, thanks much.
One word: superb!
AWESOME !!! FREAKING AWESOME !!!
Beautifully done!
So beautiful, great guitar too! More please 😊
Very nuanced. Excellent playing. And what a beautiful 12-string
Thanks for listening
Awesome. Loved it. I know the original, and you took on the challenge and tackled it so well.
Great playing! Love the Bozo.
Great job on this one, Andy! And congrats on the Bozo...😉😉 👍👍

Bravo. Someday I hope to learn to play one of these Kottke pieces. If I live long enough.
"Crow River Waltz" is a great place to start!
Epic!
The harmonic at 3:58! 🎉
Wow.
Love it! Do you also play something by Robbie Basho?
Not yet!

¡Me gusta!
You take that guitar into hyper drive for the last tune

Beautifully recorded and well-played. Can I ask what strings you are using? Leo used silk and steels early on, but those sound like medium bronze.

Sensational. You’ve just made me want to give up the guitar 😅
Haha don’t do it
Anyone know what tuning is he using? Please
This is fantastic! Can I ask if its open d? Or another open tuning?

Was that bozo handmade by the man himself or was this a Japanese made bozo? Beautiful playing btw
This is a real Božo, San Diego era.
