- Some footage of the busiest corridor for streetcars in the city of Toronto. All TTC streetcar routes converge on the length of Spadina Street, from St Clair Avenue in the north, to the Harbourfront (Queens Quay) in the south. Route 510-Spadina runs the length of the street, tying the other streetcar routes together.
Beginning at the underground streetcar loop at Spadina station on the Bloor-Danforth subway line, I rode the Spadina streetcar south. It surfaces, makes a few stops, then swings around Spadina Crescent before continuing straight south on the street again. College, Dundas, Queen, and King streets, all of which have their own streetcar lines, are crossed in succession. I got off at Dundas and Queen streets, respectively, to watch the action as cars on the 510-Spadina, 505-Dundas and 501-Queen routes pass and stop. This area of downtown Toronto gets extremely crowded with cars and pedestrians alike, but the streetcars have priority at intersections. The 501-Queen is noteworthy for being the usual route assigned the articulated, 3-trucked Hawker-Siddeley streetcars. Some of the Spadina cars terminate at the King Street loop, while others continue to Queens Quay and Union Station. The Spadina cars tend to bunch up one after the other, due to the close spacing and heavy traffic.
~Thanks for watching!~
I was an apprentice lineman when the overhead wire where installed when the streetcar right of way was built . Now I'm a lead hand in charge of rebuilding the overhead at the intersections so when the new streetcars arrive they can run on our system . We are in the process of rebuild the intersection at Adelaide .
It's nice to see people take intrest in the TTC .
Yes I did when the streetcars were brougth to Spadina . 17 years ago . We have finished the overhead rebuild at Adelaide and I'm currently in the process of rebuild Spadina Crescent Circle .
Long live the old Hawker-Siddeley cars. Nuts to the new Bombardier ones. Nuts to Presto for that matter too.
Ahhh nostalgia. Miss these CLRVs on Spadina. Now they replaced them with new Bombardier cars who’s presto machines never work and smell like crap.
I love streetcars and I hope Toronto never gets rid of them. They give the city character and I just like riding them.
PCC's were the best.
Is it true that the majority of the TTC's streetcar fleet are equipped with whistles/horns in addition to the gongs/bells which all streetcars have?
Fantastic start. Just imagine how much better it would be with a camera suspended to the right of the driver in 4603?
Streetcars are sooooooooo sophisticated and progressive.
I take that nearly every day. It looks more interesting through someone else's eyes although I like it just the same. I just saw a the next generation of streetcar doing a test run on Queen St. this morning. Thing is a behemoth.

So 6 minutes from Spadina to Dundas? Who in city hall says light rail is the future? No hate on street cars but for long distance runs, subways are much faster.
Baseshocks 30 minutes from Downsview to Union? Who in city hall says subways are the future? No hate on subways, but for long distance runs, commuter rail is much faster.
reaperexpress So your comparing city movement to movement in and out of the city? Fuck the people outside of the city, Toronto gets taxed to death Provincially and Federally, the TTC is the only subway in North America that does not State/Province funding.
Wana live away from the noise, crowds and high taxes then face the gridlock.
Downsview is within the City of Toronto. As is Scarborough. Both are far enough from downtown that it doesn't make sense to make people sit on a subway for ages, especially when building subways is so much more expensive than upgrading our railways anyway.
Baseshocks And in any case, I was merely satirizing your comment to point out that there's more to transit than just speed. Subways are faster than light rail, commuter rail is faster than subways, intercity rail is faster than commuter rail, high-speed rail is faster than intercity rail, and maglevs are faster than anything. Each has its own purpose, it's not like we should stop building everything except maglevs.
reaperexpress You made a good point above and ya everything has its purpose but what irritates me is the debates that went on for the Scarborough LRT a Subway vs LRT debate meanwhile a Eglington LRT is being built underground and a subway extension tunnel is being tunneled to Vaughn Mills. It's almost like the city purposely does not want to develop Scarborough, everything is above ground. Now i have gone off topic ranting :D lol.
hey i think i see myself there
Can't wait till 2014 or even 2015! I'm gonna see Flexitys take over these routes.
there supposed to start service on august 31st 2014 on this route.
we can only dream
