    I have never seen MoG getting used in Lorien and being a good idea! Healing in a stronghold is usually a bad idea anyways so that's why, but the shadows military was pretty slow so you had time!

      Yes, it was quite satisfying! I probably should have titled the whole video about that, since it was special!

    11:38 what do you think about the argument for using that wow to remove denethor's folly first for MT? it's 1 palantir redraw you're enabling for Shadow but it gives you the option to use your daylights in MT. I've been in this position before where I'm wondering if palantire of orthanc or denethor's is more worthwile to discard.

      Good question. I worry about Palantir of Orthanc, but maybe I was over-valuing the extra card draw for Shadow. Thanks for the good comment!

    What a dramatic game, very exciting! Mirror for full value! Blunders and recoveries on both sides! Statistically unlikely rolls for combat AND action die!

    Just wondering, wouldn't it have made more sense to discard Denethor's folly instead of the Palantir of Orthanc? I'm also curious why they didn't muster the Witch King but I guess I should ask them that, hehe.

      Good question! Quite possibly that would have been better (to get rid of Denethor's). Not sure! Thanks for the comment. Not sure about WK, either...

    should the fellowship have taken 1 corruption on the turn then did not move? (2nd last round of the game)

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  ปีที่แล้ว

      You only take corruption in Mordor if you don't attempt to move AND don't hide. Since the fellowship hid, no corruption added.

    Regarding whether to spend 2 dice to get Gandalf earlier, I think its definitely worth it, at least on an action dice economy perspective. Other considerations like healing and opportunity costs aside.
    The best case scenario otherwise is you get a WoW next round, to then begin receiving the GtW die the round after. Vs that scenario spending the extra die now is -2 this round (Mirror + Gandalf), +2 next round (the die from Gandalf plus you aren't spending your WoW next turn), and then the same thereafter. So effectively net neutral.
    In c. 50% of cases you won't roll a WoW next round and you'll be 1 dice up vs not having GtW.
    And in 25% of cases you won't roll a WoW for 2 more turns and be 2 turns up.
    So it seems a play with almost no downside from a dice economy perspective- it's either as good as waiting if you roll your WoW next turn, or strictly better if you don't.

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I was hoping to roll one next round, and I figured I could use it next round as healing in Lorien? Given the Lorien healing benefit, do you still play it turn 3, or do you wait until Turn 4?

    • @Zarl451
      @Zarl451 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WarOfTheRingChamp The free healing in Lorien does change the maths. 1 point of healing feels like its worth a bit less than 1 die - Athelas w/o Strider, Bilbos Song w/o Gollum etc. Okay in a pinch, not really something you're excited about.
      That said though, in this instance I think it makes it an even easier decision to go for the Mirror play - you arent losing dice vs waiting for a natural WoW (in fact in 50%+ of cases you'll gain dice by using Mirror to get GtW), and now you're also getting maybe 0.5-1 die of Healing.

    I wonder what SP was fishing for when they drew a C card on turn 10. I would probably save the P to play Grond in WLR instead

    Just got around to this one. Is there a world where not playing orc patrol wasn't a mistake? 2/3 chance of improving the hunt, 1/3 chance of likely ending it...instead its played as a combat card. Even if you draw an eye, SP can still make a lorien attempt.

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you play it as an event card, you only have a single die to take Lorien, which means you only get to use the Witch King ability once. The combat effect from Orc Patrol is pretty good, and having an extra round of battle to do the damage you need could easily be the difference between taking Lorien this turn vs. next turn. Playing it as a character character is possible, but 1/3 chance helps FP, 1/3 chance helps you a bit, and 1/3 chance win the game. It's not totally obvious to me that it should be played as an event card vs. trying everything you can to take out Lorien this turn and just winning that way. But, I probably would have started with Deadly Strife, seen how that went, and then decided on my last die if I wanted to try to take out Lorien or go with corruption.

    Turn 10: Did you move this turn? If not you should have taken 1 corruption.

    • @_Hamler

      The fellowship hid

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As Jiggy_Hamler notes, as long as you hide OR try to move (even if you get a red tile), you avoid the 1 corruption penalty once you're in Mordor.

      @38:40 why not move the HD army in position to retake edoras

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grantprice9768 I think it would be a bit risky - they wouldn't be bigger, and if the battle goes poorly, they risk losing HD. Instead, I just assume that Lorien will hold, and play accordingly.

      If anything, maybe it would have been better to threaten FPMV by going for Isengard and DG one die earlier.

  • @NigelIncubatorJones

    I've seen other players do the same with an Ent card--play it against Saruman so that you can play another character card. But it makes no sense to me. Unless it has a chance to knock Saruman out of the game, I just don't see the point. It seems like it wastes the card to me. You no longer have its powerful combat effect, and worse, Shadow knows it. Perhaps as a bluff, if you have a second Ent card that you do not play, hoping to bait him into emptying Orthanc? Otherwise why not just hold it? You can still play the blue tile as desired anyway.

    • @Zarl451
      @Zarl451 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hand management maybe..if your going to end up discarding cards it might be better to get 2 cards played for 1 action die, rather than save Ents at the cost of being forced to discard something else.. depends a lot on the other cards.
      Even if you don't whack Sauruman, doing a bunch of hits to an army in Isengard can alow down at an attack on Rohan too.

    • @WarOfTheRingChamp
      @WarOfTheRingChamp  ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally hold ents if I don't have a chance of taking out Saruman, but once and a while it can help to soften up Isengard, making rohan harder to take if SP doesn't roll musters.
