I found a really helpful hack to go with the free placement hack, Satch. I was watching a Caryn and Connie build today and they placed base game floor lamps in the spots where they wanted to free place an item and it was much easier than just guessing! Can't wait to try that out for myself but I wanted to pass it on.
I love that! I was watching a build of a gas station, and she placed place holder items on the slots in the shelves and then cluttered around them with the actual items she wanted, I was blown away by how much time that saved lol
I was just watching sims build where they also free placed something on a desk. I already knew about it but what they did blew my mind... They grabbed a standing lamp and placed it where they wanted the item to be so there's less trial and error. The standing lamp doesn't move away when you move the desk. Brilliant!

Also with the free placement on desks, you can use a tall lamp as a guide for where you want to place stuff, just place it in the desk so that the neck is sticking out where you want the clutter and boom, you don’t have to guess where you want stuff to go anymore
You can use the gallery to get wallpapers as well. They are large paintings technically, but it works perfectly. Really beautiful options in the gallery
The windows as fencing are a new idea to me but boy, as if I didn’t already have tough time deciding which fences to use 😂 I will have to spend some time test building and playing with this to get an idea of what’s possible to build with what window and how it will look, like a little fencing session before I actually build anything. So many options! The mirrors into wardrobes are also mindblowing 🙏🏻

I honestly ignore the grid 7/10 times because in my mind a home is typically not perfect (especially if you have kids) and furniture always finds a way to get out of place. My build hack I don’t see anywhere yet. Place your wall, add windows into the very top portion of the wall then change the wall to a fence you like. You have a three season porch.
F5 is the first thing I do when I go into build mode. Absolutely couldn't play without it. I use half-walls a lot... but it never occurred to me to put windows in. Brilliant. I've used gallery rooms before. Hadn't thought to use the garden ones. That's going to be a huge help since I suck at landscaping.

Wow, I did not know the F5 trick, thank you Satch. I watch people build on yourtube and I wondered how they were moving the windows up and down slightly. I also love the flowerbed hack, because I'm not the best at landscaping. Using windows on half walls as fencing is genius!
On some hacks you may have mentioned that there are some negative side effects, e.g. the mirrors stay in place on a closet, even if the doors slide in live mode - wohoo behind an everlasting mirror is kind of weird. Another thing I dont like, but it is a minor one: if you use the hack to align your clutter on surfaces, shelves and other objects which disappear if you move the camera behind them - same concept as on doors, windows, walls - but the objects on the now hidden shelve stay visible and float in mid air, which I also found weird.
11:55 you can fix that part of the hack by placing a tall thin item like a lamp in the place you want to put the item on the desk/counter first, then do the hack, just so it's easier to place it correctly first try.
Oh now im going to be gallery shopping for all my paintings from here on out!!! I already use half walls for railings but never thought of using windows so thank you for that. Now my time for building in the game just increased lol 😆

I miss the days when paint by reference images weren’t automatically marked as CC in the gallery 😔 The stuff I made before they updated it stayed normal, but now everything is marked with that dumb wrench, even if it is just a paint by reference of another Sim. It makes no sense that something that isn’t CC and can be used and seen with CC turned off is marked as custom simply because a sim made it, especially when it wasn’t like that for almost 10 years 😒

About the free Placing, I recently saw a Hack in a Video from Carie and Connie here on TH-cam, they used a Tall Standing Lamp put it in the Desk, where the Computer was and then they had a Reference where to put the Clutter. It still was a little bit try and error because the Clutter clipped into the Computer but it was less T&E.
There’s a secondary hack to go with free placing on counters. If you place a floor lamp where you want the items to go (before you move the desk/counter) it can be easier to place in the right spot. Im pretty sure I learned this from Caryn and Connie
@@boston_octopus_442 search pole in and use like the lighting pole or whatever and put it in the place where you want the clutter. Then move the table etc and place the clutter where the pole is. Happy to do a video if I'm not explaining this right x
When I'm on break from Uni/ when I FINALLY graduate, I'm really excited to do machinimas. Obvs GOTTA credit the CC creators and I will be listing you (and others) as a "set design consultant" 😅
8:25 But sims put dirty dishes on top of half walls - no matter the height 😫 and if you play with walls down, you don’t see them piling up. Until a sim complains about a bad smell/bad decor, when you’re looking for what they’re fussed about, and you suddenly discover a whole season of dirty dishes…like those stupid water glasses they grab every 5 minutes. (Unless that’s been fixed? But I doubt it.)
We desperately need a hot key to mirror objects, wall papers and even floors. Make that the «F» key for Flip. The free placement trick will work for ANY object with placement slots.

I use the square shelf clutter hack all the time.
To put cluster on the shelves, I usually use F9 or F0, but sometimes it was floating in the air 😅
