Got a question. If the system can detect up to 50 feet, wouldn't that detect vehicles outside of the blind spot? For eg cars 2 lanes away? That will give off incorrect alerts and potentially confuse drivers even more isn't it?
The key phrase here is “up to 50 feet“. This is designed exactly according to SAE specifications, and will operate exactly like original equipment Blind Spot Assist systems. They all use microwave radar sensors and are calibrated at the factory. Pioneer did a lot of laboratory and on road testing before they released this to the public. Rest assured it will work great!
Keep in mind it is looking back at a 45° angle, it’s not designed to pick up cars two lanes over 90 degrees to the left or right. It’s aimed exactly to pick up cars as they approach you in the next lane over.
When you have the turn signal on, and there is a vehicle detected in the blind spot zone, the system is designed to light up the LED indicator and the speaker will beep to let you know there is a vehicle detected in the blind spot zone in the direction you are intending to move. When there is a vehicle detected in the blind spot zone and you do not have the turn signal engaged, the system is designed to light up the LED indicator and will not beep.
