4 month update: I bought this exact kit because of this video and Im still very happy with this purchase. I have my pi overclocked to 2.1 gigahertz and have a 128gb sd card filled with a couple thousand games and my pi never overheats. ETA prime thanks for your great videos! Anytime something new pi related comes out the first thing I do is check your TH-cam channel.

Needing a second Pi-4, I recently got the CanaKit 8GB starter set. Although it came with a cute little plastic case with a rather small 30mm fan, even with the nice heat sinks they provided didn't seem to cool it much at all. I upgraded to a GeekPi Ice-Tower cooler a couple of days later which cut the CPU temperature by over 40C - dropping the average lightly loaded temperatures from over 80C to slightly less than 40C! The other accessories that came with the CanaKit worked perfectly - but the cooling of the originally provided case should have been much better.

Thanks for this video. I wanted to ease into the Pi (I've been using Unix since 1992 - started on the wonderful SunOS - but didn't want to kludge my way into this). Saw the video, ordered the kit, and it all came as advertised. Not sure what to do with the 4 standoffs tho' :). This made the process stress-free. Much appreciated.

I ended up getting a used Pi 3B not long ago that came with the heatsinks installed, turns out the heatsinks had some kind of adhesive or thermal pad? Carefully took off the CPU heatsink and added a small dab of thermal paste so it wouldnt stick to the CPU again, it dropped the CPUs temp about 10C or so, more so when using a FAN Hat. So i dont think id use just a thermal pad without a little thermal paste when i get a Pi4

    • @W1ldTangent

From my research, it's almost always less... they're basically giving away the case and one or two accessories pretty much, but they buy the ingredients in bulk and earmark some of them for kits, so they can afford it and still make money.

RetroPIE’s always a good choice until you’ve got a serious use for it.

I got their 4GB kit for $100 Canadian Rupees, quite a steal from the normal Amazon price of $140. Don't care too much for the cheap-feeling case and noisy fan, but I have a fair few extra High-Pi cases laying around from Buyapi.ca kits. This 8GB kit has a different case that doesn't look much better, but has a much bigger heatsink.

I bought this full kit off Facebook marketplace from someone who was upset this wasn't really a full desktop replacement for $40. With a deal like that I've never wanted to buy another at even a reasonable discount.

Argon case is better for sure plus half of the fun is shopping these separately and putting them together otherwise you can buy a cheap laptop for this price.

I picked up the Labists 4GB kit right before the Pi 4 8GB was announced. My only complaint is the fan started making an ungodly variety of noises after a day of use.

The usb controller thermal pad is at the wrong location. It goes beside 1234 pins of the power supply. The location is even indented in the heat sink.

I'm looking to run a pi 4 for general productivity, office tasks and photo management etc, maybe some TH-cam and music, light/retro gaming.
    Any recommendations?
I'm thinking PiTop or Labists with 8gb pi 4 and Fenix OS which was in the previous video.
    Cheers everyone.

I bought a labists starter kit for a pi 4B a couple years ago and I am trying to use it to convert an old space age tv into a deskpi, bascially. I have been trying to add an LED arcade button to it as an on/off switch and I used your tutorial for adding a power button to a 1,2, or 3, but it didn't work for me. I'm hoping that you can help me fix this issue?

i got this kit. seems pretty decent so far. my only complaint is the sd card reader is usb-c only. and my pc only has regular usb. luckily i have other sd readers anyways, but something to keep in mind to new buyers

    • @Noodles.FreeUkraine
      @Noodles.FreeUkraine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Then you didn't get this kit, because the SD card reader is both USB-A and USB-C.

@@Noodles.FreeUkraine nope I did get that kit.. maybe they changed their sd reader. I got it the moment it came out honestly. thats good though :)

@@liquidt3ch Weird, but maybe they just grab what's on hand. Mine can be flipped and used either way. Just USB-C is a bit weird since most people have USB-A still I reckon.
