FISHING Small TUBE FLIES for TROUT [SINGLE SPEY/New Zealand]

  • I head out for a few hours to look around on a small local river. The water is low and clear but I really had my mind set on swinging flies with the Single Spey Rod so decide to go with that anyway. Small tube style flies and keeping on the move was the name of the game!

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah….DONT set the hook!!!! Try not to do anything until the fish is peeling line off your reel otherwise you risk pulling the fly away from the fish before it’s hooked

    • @MrMandelll
      @MrMandelll ปีที่แล้ว

      When swingin' for salmon it's recommended to keep a sling of line, maybe 50-70cm, between reel and rodhand index, and let that sling go when you feel the take. Gives the fish time to turn back to where it came from, getting hooked in the corner of the mouth instead of the "beak". Guess this works here as well.

    Hey Alex, considering switching to the lanyard-lumbar side pack for certain situations. My only question is how do you like attaching your net to your Thunderhead hip pack when you don’t have a backpack?

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m pretty much always wearing a backpack and when I don’t I just shove it down between myself and the hip pack and it works well. There is actually a proper ‘pouch’ for a net on the hip pack for that reason…

    • @tj6111
      @tj6111 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrippinOnTrout yeah I've seen that. Do you wear your hip pack and backpack simultaneously? Doesn't the backpack push down on the hip pack if you're wearing it directly behind you? I imagine you have to shuffle that over to the side while hiking...

    Hi Alex I often see people casting to spawning fish and wonder why disturb them.I wonder maybe they look like a easy target.Why do they do it

      @TrippinOnTrout  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the easy target thing is why…..😕

  • @Payner2644
    @Payner2644 ปีที่แล้ว

    At about the 10min mark you talk about not fishing to paired up fish because they're spawning, which I agree with. But, then you fished down and across where you can't see the fish to know if they're spawning. Kind of contradictory, don't you think?

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just trying to highlight that if you SEE fish in that situation to leave them alone. You’re right in that situation I couldn’t see what the fish were doing but then does that mean that you should only sight fish to fish that you can actually see aren’t paired up or spawning…?
      I get what you are saying and if I am fishing water that I suddenly see is occupied by spawning fish, I will stop fishing and relocate but to say that I shouldn’t have fished water I couldn’t see into is a bit much.
      By that logic, no one should then fish any water they can’t see into during the winter months right..? The only real way to avoid those fish is to not fish in the winter at all and I was only trying to make people a bit aware of the situation.
