  • Incredible Amazing Fly fishing the Hydro canals of the Mackenzie country. This was my last day in the area and i have never had such success on these canals as I did on this trip. Heaps of giant trout landed. + bonus River Monster at the end

    Hi Gareth, you picked a nice day to go canal fishing! I think that for your future trips you should invest in a Carp nett with a telescopic handle to ensure that you have a net big enough to get the whole fish to the bank! Great video. Cheers mate. Harera

    I envy such rivers with such fish in Poland, there is little thing about huge , salmon, salmon, sea trout most of people kill these fish, I feel sorry to see how our waters are damaged by age and I envy you such beautiful fish !!! PS you are doing brilliant materials, hopefully more !!!

    Man these fish are big. I'm yet to make 10lb. These things make all my biggest fish look tiny. 16 days till I can leave Auckland and hit the backcountry. Can't wait! Your videos have kept me going through the 100 plus days of lockdown.

      @@CrazyAboutFlyFishing yeah I was doing a little experiment with the standard T Bomb with a blood worm 🪱 on the Tuki not long ago.
      I was bored and the river was like beyond being green but OMG 😲 IT WORKED.
      I was trying my new #8 out and your ability to lean into a trout is far better than the 5 wt.....
      It's only for turangi really not CHB.
      My bro and family 👪 can't wait to get out either.

      @@craigbooker1503 I've only used them in Taupo this past winter since I discovered them but man they worked well. Then they locked us up in Auckland so will test them out this summer. It's highly likely we will run into each other on the T sometime.

    I'd give so much to land a trout that size. Best I've got so far is 5lbs at 25.5" but I also live around millions of ppl on the states and everyone keeps the fish here so it's rare to catch one over 2lbs

    I SO need to go back to NZ and do more than tour. Wish I could find employment there. One of my favorite places on earth. Saw some amazing trout in wanaka when I stayed there. Wish I had time to put a hook in the water then.

    'So walking the dog works' Yep, thats what egg rolling is. More similar to fly fishing than spinning. The way I explain it to mates is that it's deep water fly fishing.

    I can’t believe fish that big would eat a nymph that small, what’s the point, zero calories😛 I have caught a fair amount of Muskie on small crank baits walleye fishing in Canada though, but not baits that small. Nice spot, hope to make it there one day…

      They were released just after construction 50yrs ago. they are now wild and self sustaining. as we can see the big male i caught was in spawning colors

      There's a salmon farm on the canel they feed the salmon pallets some of the salmon manage to escape the farms and so does some of the pallets enter the canal when the salmon are feed.

      Some say its becauses of the salmon farms that are on the canal.and the Trout eat the pallets that end up in the canal when the salmon are feed. Some salmon have escaped the Salmon farm pens and ended up in the canal so you get bigger salmon in the canal than you get from the salmon farm.Causes there breed to a certain size.
